BU Recruiting Update, Part 4

Mark Divver is reporting that Kai Janviriya and Will Zellers are no longer committed to BU
Not surprised by Kai who is very small and I believe recruited by previous administration
Zellers however was very good at Hlinka/Gretsky tourney and is a very good player

I saw a post speculating that it (Sellers) may have to do with BU perhaps wanting him to play a year in the USHL after this season and him not wanting to. The poster (maybe a poster on here?) referenced that was the situation with Artem Shlaine and presumably the reason why he decommitted and went to UConn instead.

It does sound like the Shlaine situation where he was supposed to be a 2021 BU freshman. But after a big 19-20 season at Shattuck he opted to skip the junior season and switched his commitment to UConn, where he had two so-so seasons before transferring to N. Michigan.

Zellers committed today to North Dakota. Brad Schlossman has him coming in 2025 and spending next year in USHL so probably not the reason he changed

Long family history with UND. Both parents went there and according to Schlossman, Zellers was attending games there at a very young age. Good luck to him.

I think Cole finally read my post on the BU thread from August/Sept 22 when word came out that he was considering heading west (sorry, I don't know how to quote from other threads). You're welcome :-)

"Dear Cole: Reasons why BU should be your future home (over UND and Minny):
- You have a big family, so I take it family is important to you. Do you want your parents and/or brothers to see 6 games a year? Or 35?
- The Beanpot - is it still a really hard ticket? No. Is a BU/NU or a BU/BC final still an incredible atmosphere? Heck ya.
- Is REA better than Agganis? Of course it is - it is better than most NHL arenas. But there is still no arena in the east that is better than Agganis.
- Boston vs. Grand Forks vs. Twin Cities: this should be a no-brainer, but maybe you prefer ice fishing to strolling a few blocks to Fenway to watch the Sox or walking to the Head of the Charles or hopping on the T to catch a show or driving an hour and a half to some good skiing or...I'll stop now.
- You may not be thinking about a degree, given that you are unlikely to be here 4 years, but even if it takes coming back for a few summers, a BU degree is a nice to have (US News #42) vs Minny (#68) or UND (#249)."

I agree. You get to share the kudos with Joe P for this massive win.

2025 BU recruit Zach Morin is one of two Canadians playing in the USHL who is rostered for the World U17 Challenge in early November. He'll skate for Canada Red. On Saturday, he scored the overtime game-winner on a penalty shot as Youngstown beat Chicago, 3-2.

Rogie21, great updates but time to start a new BU recruiting thread. Some of the players on the start of the thread are retiring from their pro careers these days. ;-)
