BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Are Quinn and co. recruiting James at all?

You would have to assume that they will be in on him and will see him this year with the U17's if they haven't seen him play already. He would be a 2016 recruit and they have no dmen in that class yet in a year when you will lose MacAfee, Somerby(if he isn't already gone) and Abramson. The kid is already 6'5",200 though so he is going to get plenty of offers, including one from BC after he commits to a school :D

JD Greenway was listed at 6-3 this season. Jordan is 6-5. Also, according to one of my sources, Vas Kolias will play two USHL seasons and arrive in 2016, not 2015.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

College Hockey Inc. and OverTheBoards have confirmed that Alberni Valley goalie Connor Lacouvee's verbal to BU for next season. As recently as March when he was named the Bulldogs MVP, Lacouvee seemed intent on playing a second season in Alberni Valley. One of the sources for the blogpost on Lacouvee said that some Big 10 teams had also been interested in him.

13 months ago, BU had four recruits in the pipeline for '14, '15, and '16. Now, with Lacouvee's verbal, BU has 22 high-quality kids committed for those three classes.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

NHL.com on Johnathan MacLeod:

There's little to joke about with MacLeod's game. The 6-2, 200-pounder is the most physical of the foursome. He had five goals and 11 points in 51 regular-season games, and two goals, three points and a plus-4 rating at the Under-18s. He earned the No. 44 spot on Central Scouting's rankings.

"John plays a very physical style of game," Gregory said. "He is a very powerful hitter. When he does this he can dominate, especially in the defensive zone. It gives him lots of space to make a solid play with the puck."

The key for MacLeod is toeing the line between smart, physical play and being reckless. He had 70 penalty minutes in the regular season, but none in seven games at the U-18s.

"He likes playing [physical]," Cole said. "He's learned a lot about it; when to incorporate it and not taking penalties, having more of a controlled aggression. He's come a long way. For as physical as he played at the [Under-18s] he didn't take one penalty. But he certainly had the other teams aware of him on the ice. That's how you want to play and that's how you win championships with guys like that."

MacLeod understands how important it is for him to find that line and stay on the right side of it.

"It's about experience," he said. "I think when I first started doing it I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off. I was trying to take anybody who had the puck and kill them. As you get older and learn more about the game and how it can affect your [defense] partner, leaving him with a 2-on-1 if you step up on a guy. It's all about experience. You have to learn if you're going to do that, you have to make sure there's not going to be an odd-man rush behind you, so it's just experience."

Is this a "pipeline" or a "stockpile"? How many scholarships does DQ have for these 22 recruits plus additional "gotta have" recruits and for the senior class that will still be there when these players have all arrived?

Since your go to line in the NU thread is to tell people to email Madigan am I correct in assuming you have already reached out to Quinn to try to get your questions answered?

I have suggested that one individual, who posts like a human barbituate, should call him Madigan. This poster has some serious misunderstandings about what is going on. It is something of a joke that he appears to be proud that he has come to his misconclusions by himself without ever speaking to someone who knows what is going on and might enlighten him.

If I was an terrier alum, I probably would call someone who could explain to me how this recruiting strategy will be executed. Asking questions is generally a good idea if one wishes to learn something.;)

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Come on HHound, Quinn has masterfully been able to balance all these guys by dishing out just the right amount of partials, etc. They will all make it to BU, don't worry!!! :D:p

Partials! Oh, OK I thought Eichel required a double scholly. What will Quinn do if they all show up? Is it really possible for one coach to blend so much talent into a champion squad if his name isn't Jewwy?;):D

Jerry could only dream of having that many guys lined up! I'm not worried though as he can always "steal" one if he has to :D:p:rolleyes:

I had some concerns which were alleviated by a conversation I had in February, I can't really share any details beyond that.

As it turns out, BC had a pipeline of 22 recruits on the Heisenberg 2011 list, but several of them never made it to the Heights for one reason or another. With a number like that, you'd have to think the odds are that most, but not everyone on BU’s current list, will eventually arrive at Agganis. Obviously, not all of these names are full scholarship guys and there are some partials in the group.

Right now, it looks like BU will have 10 in the 2014 recruit class and another 7 (subject to change) for 2015. Four are currently targeted for 2016. Might someone be pushed back a year? Yes, it happens all the time; accelerations happen, too. Kids do change their minds, and, of course, until an LOI is signed, verbals remain tenuous.

Bottom line is the Quinn and Greeley have exceeded the expectations of most BU fans in the recruiting wars--even those who, a year ago, insisted that a more high-profile BU alum deserved the associate head coach nod.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

That's all I've really maintained, that expecting every one of those kids to arrive at BU is simply unrealistic. The "stockpiling" aspect/argument doesn't bother me. And if BC ever has that many guys lined up, I will say the same thing. No chance all of them make it to BC.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Another big get for BU's 2016 recruit class, Edina center Kiefer Bellows, son of NHLer Brian Bellows.

Listed at 5'11" 195 lbs., Bellows is a true power forward that is tremendously strong for a player his age, with the ability to score from anywhere on the ice with his above average shot. Bellows is also a good stickhandler and possess excellent instincts in the offensive zone.

Helped Edina win the Minnesota state title, skating on the top line with Miguel Fidler, whose father, Mike Fidler, and uncle, Mark Fidler, was BU stars in the 70s. Joins Clayton Keller, Hank Crone, Johnny McDermott and Vas Kolias in BU's 2016 recruit class.

I'm surprised by this. I've known the kid since mites and he has always been fast tracked to the highest level he can play at the fastest rate he can advance. Thought his dad would get him in MJ or else a school like North Dakota where he wouldn't be troubled by difficult classes to detract from his game.;)

Maybe they saw how quickly Charlie Coyle fit into the Wild and think Kiefer can follow a similar path...
