Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

According to Boston Hockey Blog and other sources, BU has a verbal from 6-3 LW and Southie native Liam Coughlin, who recently decommitted from UMass. A year ago he was captain at Catholic Memorial (28-22-50) and a Globe and Herald All-Scholastic. Followed Noonan's path to Vernon/BCHL this season and after a slow start put up 18-27-45 in 53 games. Was first star on Sunday in Vernon's playoff semifinals win with 1-2-3.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

BU today received a verbal from 5-8 playmaking center Henry Crone, top scorer for the Dallas Jr. Stars U16s (17-23-40). He attended the recent NTDP evaluation camp and has been tendered by USHL Omaha, where he'll likely play next year. Joins SSM's top scorer Clayton Keller (35-40-75) and Westminster power forward Johnny McDermott in the 2016 forward group.

At last fall’s Tier 1 Showcase, USHR ranked him the third best skater:

3. Hank Crone, F, 2/19/98 (#67/Dallas Stars) 5-8/160 -- A dynamic forward who demands your attention when he is on the ice -- he’s really fun to watch. Crone has exceptional skill and is able to create offense in all situations. Has sensational playmaking skills and creates time and space for himself with his stickhandling abilities and hockey sense. Materializes out of nowhere – with the puck. A strong candidate for the NTDP. D-I schools are lining up for his services. Had a hat trick Friday vs. the Chicago Fury.

BU’s pipeline, which now shows 19 recruit, includes the two most recent top scorers for the Dallas Stars U16s. Maxim Letunov (2015) was top scorer in 2012-13.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

I was thinking of the french pronunciation, like Kelly's boyfriend on Cheers…("OnRee"):D

Seems like a good pick up. I like the geographic diversity we are seeing with the new regime.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

I've got a good friend who's baby boy is named Henry. It's a name on the comeback trail most likely.

Beside the diversity (Texas, Minnesota, Illinois, California, Quebec, Alberta, Moscow, NY, Connecticut & Mass.), it's also the numbers and quality. Can't recall seeing 19 BU recruits on Chris Heisenberg's list at any one time before.

Keller has now accepted his NTDP invitation and welcomed Crone to Terrier nation.

which is good because with that many, i highly doubt they all make it to BU. as mookie said, "over recruiting". that's the new approach these days, certainly not limited to BU. happens at BC too.

Don't count your recruits 'til they sign their LOI and actually show up on campus as matriculated students. When recruiting high-end talent, coaches absolutely must have a solid plan B to account for guys bolting to MJs and early departures to pros. Can no longer assume 4-year stays for many of these players; guys like Arnold and Hayes have become the exception instead of the norm.

Even Hayes would have been 3 year if not for ending his junior year injured and being unable to play in the AHL. 3 years out of guys like these is most definitely a win.

Why wasn't he able to play in the AHL?

6'0", 180. Third in the AJHL in regular season scoring and December's player of the month. In 2011-12. combined with Kevin Duane to put up more than 100 points for The Brunswick School. A skilled right wing to join Greenway, Letunov, Carpenter and possibly Greer in the 2015 class.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Jack Eichel took over the @USNTDP twitter account an hour ago for a live chat and answered some questions regarding BU hockey. Seems genuinely excited to be coming here. Good sign.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Eichel talks about World U18s and what's next for him. He finished the season with 87 points (38G, 49G) fourth best single-season point total for NTDP program.
