Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Super Stevie strikes again!

Amateur Hockey Report--
Scouted on October 26, 2013: Des Moines @ US NTDP Select-17 (USHL)
Jordan Greenway is the total package forward. 6'05 and 215 pounds and still only 16. Is patient enough to wait for passing lanes to open. Anticipates at a level that allows him to know where those lanes will part. Knows when to shoot and when to pass. Demonstrates good stickhandling ability and the will to drive to the net. A stout protector of the puck. Regularly gets a leg in front of oncoming stick swipes. Contains immense strength throughout his body; it shows in his skating stride and shooting ability. What a player. AHR Rating: AAA

Super Stevie? Wow....

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

So BU has picked up #2 Greenway, #8 Kolias, #10 Phelps, and #24 Letunov on Over the Board's top 70 uncommitted prospect list from October. Great job by Greeley and Co. on the recruiting front lately.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Tweet from Over The Boards ‏@OTBPuckWatch

96 F JJ Piccinich (BU recruit) will join @USANTDP in their New Year's Eve tilt against Miami. Currently leads @YTownPhantoms in goals (16).

Piccinich scored 16th goal and best-in-USHL 9th power play goal last night. Two goals for his teammate and 2015 BU recruit Maxim Letunov--one a highlight reel goal

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

It's hard not to get very excited about Eichel coming on board, after watching him in the WJCs so far. To think that he just turned 17 is crazy. He has some serious skills. He could have the most impact of a freshman forward since Tony Amonte, based on what I've seen. The closest I can think of since then is Colin Wilson, but I think Eichel is at another level skill-wise. Wilson had good hockey sense and used that to his advantage. Eichel seems to just be able to do what he wants out there most of the time, and that is with the best players in the world that are up to two years older than him.

We'll see how he does against Canada.

Agree with everything you've written. The comparisons with Wilson are inevitable—big, dominant and skilled centers, not yet 18 when their BU careers begin/began, draft eligible after freshman season. Both are late October birthdates. Besides appearing to be at “another level skill-wise,” Eichel’s decision-making has been impressive as has his poise and maturity both on and off the ice. As Dave Starman (a 5-star analyst) points out, he recognizes when to slow things down from a pond hockey pace to let a play develop. Likewise, his interviews reveal maturity beyond 17 years.

Many people assume Eichel will be one and done, but it wouldn’t be surprising if he spends a second season on Comm Ave., especially with all the talent lined up for 2014 and 2015. His draft team will, of course, have much to say about it.

The other thing that has jumped out to me is his passing skills. Given his goal totals, I expected that his biggest strength would be finding the net. But he has shown the ability to make quick passes to guys that are just in the process of getting open.

AJ Greer to BU

USHR: KUA Jr. F AJ Greer has committed to BU. Others in pic were HE schools -- Vermont, Maine, Lowell. Family advisor is former BU G Peter Fish.
OTB: 96 F AJ Greer (@KUAHockey) commits to Boston University. 6'3, 205 lb forward from QC is athletic, offensively-gifted force. Massive upside.
OTB: BU running train on the recruiting game right now. Greenway, Letunov, Kolias, Phelps, Keller, McAvoy since August, now AJ Greer...

No. Effing. Way. See posts #11 and #19 for a quick refresher of the hilarity from a few years ago. Someone with better search skills can maybe find the other posts?

Edit to add: AJ stands for Anthony-John. Crap.

is ryan donato still on bu's radar? or will he be heading to harvard to play for papa? (i was going to go to cushing today to see him in the watkins tournament, but the weather has me moving that to tomorrow)

Has offers from at least BU and BC. Apparently BU trying hardest out of everywhere. Harvard is still holding out last I heard.

I know family friends of theirs, and that's the latest I've heard, not sure what the deal is now though.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

According to one recruiting source, AJ Greer is likely to join the 2014 recruit class, not 2015. Greer's commitment tweet included the hashtag #2014. Listed as a junior at KUA, so he'd have to accelerate to join Eichel, Piccinich and Phelps as Fs in the class.

Further down the road, Clayton Keller, one of just two sophomores on Shattuck Prep, was the top scorer in the World Sports School Challenge--won by SSM--and earned player of the game in the championship game.
