BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

It was a good weekend for several BU recruits:
--2014 recruit Jack Eichel scored a hat trick in the NTDP U18s 7-3 win against Muskegon.
--2014 recruit J.J. Piccinich scored the overtime winner in Youngstown’s 1-0 win against Lincoln and has a team-leading eight goals.
--2016 recruit Clayton Keller scored a pair for Shattuck St. Mary’s Prep in a 7-4 win vs. Team Northwest. In 15 games, Collier, one of only two sophomores on the two team, has 8-6-14.

Eichel is an amazing talent. He's going to be a fun one to watch.

Any idea why he has only played in 3 games, where others have played in as many as seven? Injury?

The USHL stats combine the U18s and U17s. Not sure why they show only five USHL games for the U18 players. USA Hockey's schedule shows they've played seven vs. USHL team and three against NCAA teams. Eichel played in all three games vs. NCAA teams and three of the seven vs. USHL teams. No mention of injury that I've seen.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Anyone hear anything about Chase Phelps('96 F Shattuck St. Mary's) committing to BU? Saw a tweet about it this morning but it was deleted or I'm just seeing things due to my late night last night. Anything I found online had him heading to a NCHC school or the WHL so it would be huge steal if Quinn got him somehow.

Reported on Heisenberg 2014 as a BU commit.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Phelps is the second leading scorer on SSM Prep with 19 points in 15 games, five points ahead of 2016 recruit Clayton Keller. OverTheBoards ranked him the #10 uncommitted player

10. 96 F Chase Phelps – Shattuck-St. Mary’s Prep – 6’0 – 175
Good-sized forward contributes in every facet of the game and can toy with defenders in the offensive zone. Plays a style of game that will translate extremely well to college hockey and doesn’t overcomplicate things, plugging away on the offense with a number of tools at his disposal. Hit a point-per-game pace as a junior on prep last year and looks to eclipse that this season.

Last season had 60 points for SSM Prep and over the summer played for the US Select U18s in the Ivan Hlinka. Joins U18s' Eichel and USHL 2nd leading goal-scorer Piccinich in the 2014 recruit class.

chase phelps has not committed anywhere yet, from family. @otbpuckwatch @letsplay_hockey @hockeycommits

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Looks like this is premature, despite being reported by several sources--but not USHR.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

A new recruit.
Over The Boardsþ@OTBPuckWatch
96 F Maxim Letunov (@YtownPhantoms/@USHL) commits to BU. 6'2 scrambler with fantastic offensive upside. Our #24 uncommitted. H/T @ushrhockey

USHR @USHRhockey
Maxim Letunov (Youngstown-USHL) has committed to BU. Another impact player for the new regime. Played for the Dallas Stars Midgets last yr.

OverTheBoards: 24. 96 F Maxim Letunov – Youngstown Phantoms – 6’2 – 155 Last season, Letunov was a lanky offensive wonder kid, though with that an immediate outpouring of offense to start his USHL career did not appear likely – 9 points in 6 games for the Phantoms are proving me wrong. Quietly dangerous at all times, Letunov uses explosive speed to create separation and generates a lot of opportunities with intuitive positioning and an active stick.

Originally from Moscow. Tall, skinny and reportedly blazing fast. 6-2, 155.29-37-66 in 40 games last year. At the Midget Nationals, had a four-goal game vs. the Jr. Bruins 16Us. According to Elite Prospects, he was drafted in the first round (#26 overall) in the 2013 KHL draft.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Five BU recruits listed on the NHL Central Scouting’s November players to watch list for the 2014 draft: Johnathan MacLeod, Chase Phelps, JJ Piccinich, Maxim Letunov and Bobo Carpenter. Late ‘96 Jack Eichel isn’t draft eligible ‘til 2015.
