BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

That's what a reporter on twitter mentioned. It is not a grades issue, it seems to be more of a procedural issue with his Russian transcripts (from first 2 years in HS). That is why I mentioned BU's international student background. If any school could get this settled I would think it would be BU. If Letunov is a good enough student, it is a shame that paperwork is getting into the way. Of course I've learned to take anything on BU hockey on twitter with a grain of salt and hopefully the full story comes out.

Speaking about twitter rumors, have we heard anything definitive about the Piccinich situation?
Piccinich & Sherwood were just introduced @ the London Knights Presser. https://twitter.com/GoLondonKnights/status/628973854065606656

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

who replaces Letunov as 2nd/3rd line pivot?

Quick stab, part 2:
1: Oksanen-O'Regan-Greenway
2: Lane-JFK-Greer
3: Olsson-Baillargeon-Carpenter
4: Phelps-Moran-Roberto
5: Cloonan-Lawrence-Kelley

1: Grzelcyk-MacLeod
2: Hickey-McAvoy
3: Somerby-Fortunato
4: Diffley-Switzer

I think there will be some fluidity w/ the forward lines. I think assuming full health, the D pairings will remain mostly intact. My take on initial lineups:

Oksanen - O'Regan - Baillargeon
Greenway - JFK - Greer
Olsson - Lane - Carpenter
Phelps - Moran - Roberto
Lawrence - Cloonan - Kelley

Grzelcyk - MacLeod
Fortunato - Hickey
Somerby - McAvoy
Diffley - Switzer

There aren't as many right-shot forwards plus I believe Quinn likes putting his most talented players together, so that's why I believe Baillargeon will play RW on the top line to start. Lane did a more than adequate job moving to center last season and I think he's best-suited for a 3rd line role as opposed to top-6.

On D I like how well the Brandons played together the entire season, and I think McAvoy's transition to the college game will be more seamless paired w/ the experience and steadiness Somerby brings.

A couple of reporters tweeted that news last night then followed it up with comments saying he wasn't leaving BU. Hickey himself tweeted this last night as well:

Playing hockey again is making me so excited to get back to BU #goterriers hi @mcarm_

Take it all for whatever it's worth.

Yeah, I don't think this will happen. First, if it was a situation where he had made it known that he would leave for the right team, the team that gave him up would have wanted more in return. Second, if he is already showing that he can excel against D-1 level competition, why go to MJ where the overall level is likely lower (at least based on age)? He developed tremendously under Quinn and Co., and he really seemed to love the experience. If the team had stunk last year and he didn't look so good, I could see it as a possibility. But he picked NCAA and other than one period, the season really couldn't have gone any better for him. He certainly got lots of exposure.

I wonder if Cloonan is officially 2015 yet. As of last weekend, from about as good a source as their is, that was still being figured out. Of course, that was before the Letunov news broke. If he is coming I'm hoping he is good enough to break the lineup.

Not to mention he's in a position to establish himself as one of the best D in the country over the next couple of years.

I agree with the D Combo... wonder about Diff... he was definitely the most improved player on the team last year..looked good at Bruins Rookie camp as well...but McAvoy is a stud....I suspect they keep the pairings on D as is with McAvoy in the spot you suggested...

as for the O pairings...

Ahti-O'Regan-Greenway
Greer-Baillargeon-JFK Baillargeon is a natural center I don't see him being moved... JFK can play the wing
Olsson-Lane-Roberto/Carpenter I hedge here Carpenter probably better goal scorer but don't underestimated the chemistry that line with Roberto built end of the year going into playoffs and NCAA
phelps-moran-Roberto/carpenter

don't mind any of the losses or decommits EXCEPT Letunov ---he has game breaking skill... curious to see how Cloonan does making big jump...and wonder what the coaching staff has up their sleeves...to make up for Letunov loss... and Hickey is going nowhere...that was a hedge by Red Deer if he decided to sign with Calgary.... but if he does after the season he isn't going to play for them.... they just like stirring the pot with the NCAA...

Maybe we can figure out a way to legally bribe Auston Matthews...... unlimited swiss chocolate??

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Hearing that JFK has impressed at the Jr. National Team camp tournament. In Sweden’s 5-2 win over the U.S. he scored the GWG and added an assist. McAvoy is paired with Fortunato in today's US-Finland game.

I suspect Forsback-Karlsson will be the only freshman forward in the top six. With Letunov gone and hearing the O’Regan is moving back to center, my latest lineup.
Greer-O’Regan-Baillargeon
Olsson-JFK-Oksanen
Greenway-Lane-Roberto
Phelps-Moran-Carpenter
Cloonan-Kelley-Lawrence-Ryan

Not having a great summer with this new rumor from Jeff Cox

Multiple sources have indicated BU assistant Steve Greeley will leave Terriers program to join scouting staff with New York Rangers.

Agreed too many late breaking defections close to the start of school. You need to have your house In order well before this.

This would really stink, but I'm not surprised - he was very impressive at the roundtable, and apparently he has a very good reputation for finding talent.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

A few points regarding the Greeley departure:

-While this has yet to be confirmed, Greeley will be in the Rangers front office. One source indicated that he’ll be assistant GM for the Rangers, clearly a career advancement. Rangers have been looking to get younger in the front office with Sather giving up the GM title.

-This was bound to happen sooner or later. We all know Greeley’s track record since coming aboard in July 2013. At a recent BU fan gathering, it was pointed out that according to longtime NHL exec Jack Ferreira (who worked with Steve in Los Angeles), there is no better talent evaluator in hockey than Greeley.

-Let’s not forget that Albie O’Connell , whose been part of the recruiting equation for more than a year, has a pretty good track record, too. He convinced both Gaudreau and Gillies to commit to Northeastern, brought some big names to Harvard and was given credit for the Crimson’s strong power play.

-Nevertheless, Greeley’s exceptional recruiting skills will be missed, but if Scott Young is his replacement, I’d imagine plenty of kids will welcome that chance to be coached by a 19-year NHLer, two-time Cup champ and a multiple Olympian.
