BU Hockey '24-'25: Reloaded for another Frozen Four run

Sounds like we should have some pretty good vibes going into St Louis. BU has won a few tournaments there - the Ice Breaker in 2010 as mentioned in the Terrier Hockey Fan Blog and the St Louis Fireman’s tournament way back in 1974 defeating Minn-Duluth and St Louis. It would be great to make it 3 for3!

Having a 30 win + team from another direction in Michigan makes me think of another opponent in the Frozen Four- Northern Michigan in 1991. Western has done very well this semester only losing 3 games (21-3) but that Northern team was undefeated in its last 26 games winning the championship going 24-0-2! Hoping the results, should we make it to the final against this Michigan team, will be a little different (although we did push Northern to the very brink of of losing in the first FF I attended in person).

Will never get out of mookie’s mind the picture of cashman (RIP) standing the the right face off circle when that winning goal went in 🫣🫣🫣

Looks like I picked the right section when buying my tickets months ago. From the BU email, it said BU sections are 105, 106 and 305. I'm in 106! It will be nice to sit with a larger group of BU fans for a change. Haven't been near the school section since 1997!

Wait…UVM is the host of this year’s Frozen Four?
Looks like it - a little strange- I think there are a few schools closer, huh? Remember when BU hosted regionals most years in Worcester? How come they don’t do that anymore? It can get you a close game if you make it in. I think BU hosted the 1998 Frozen Four as well.

The mayor of Worcester said there is a Div 1 hockey team in Worcester (Holy Cross) so if any school would be the host, it would be them, the DCU Center is owned by the city. At least it was when he made that statement.

Sooooooo. When do we start to talk about the game? Never, because we know nothing about Penn State beyond what we've seen in the Regionals? Is this a good match-up? Can the BU D contain their speed? How good is their goalie? I guess I could do some googling to get the answers to these next questions, but... How old are they? How many draft picks do they have?

It's time to make a Championship game. Just sayin'.

BU Hockey: Hopeful

mookie did hear during that regional said pedd st has ZERO teenagers on their team…which makes sense that no parent would send their young kid to have to risk showering with pedos 🫣

PSU had a poor start to the season, picked up the pace and finished strong. BU will be the third HEA team they've faced in the tournament.

We'll be facing the second former UConn goaltender in the tournament in addition to Ohio State's Logan Terness. Arsenii Sergeev is also a transfer and played with UConn in 22-23. We have a 2-0 record against him winning 5-2 at Agganis where he made 38 saves, and 3-2 at the XL Center where he made 31 saves. He has the overwhelming majority of starts this year with Penn State and has started all games since January. He's another solid performer it seems with a 2.56 GAA and .918 SV% with 4 shutouts, very comparable with Terness. So very good, but not a superstar. Hopefully he doesn't have "the best performance he's ever had".

It is absolutely time that we at least get back to the Championship game. When you get to this stage everything is so tight (well, except for those 2 Lake State games in 93 and 94), that it's hard to predict a result on any given night. I can see any one of these teams winning this thing. However, I think this team - even though it seems like the least likely to win it, can actually do it.

Amongst all the "Jay is 7-7" talk someone posted his playing stats. I keep forgetting what an absolute MONSTER of a Senior year he had. 38-29-67. I mean.... That year's Hobey winner was Brian Bonin (Gophers) who went 34-47-81! Also a Senior. Different times man.... Different times.

Is it 8:30 tomorrow yet?

Pandolfo's lower numbers as a junior (20 pts, 20 games) were due to missing half the season when someone skated on his wrist. Made it back for the HE and NCAA tournaments. The '94-'95 squad had incredibly deep scoring with Drury, Sylvia, Lachance on the fourth line.
