BU '23-'24 Season: Pandomania

1. This team misses Dom Fensore. Lane is incredibly skilled but we miss having a really strong skating breakout guy.
2. This team is 1-1. Obviously the way the product has looked is concerning. That being said, I don't think the coaches who took BU to the FF last year forgot how to coach. Maybe the switch of roles among coaches will get revisited. But I am not going to panic. There are a lot of new faces on this team. They will get it figured out.
3. Losing the top ranking will help take some pressure off. I went to both the Bentley and UNH games, and those teams were FIRED up.
4. I didn't see last night's game, so I can't speak to the Celebrini vs. Eiserman comparison. Celebrini is not Eichel. But he will still likely lead this team in scoring and given his age, he will likely improve significantly as he gets used to playing against 24 and 25 year-olds.

Well said. This weekend is important to begin to get back on track.

Tough to make a direct comparison but Duplessis at QU vs. Caron at BU is interesting to watch

Duplessis played well behind Commesso, and won a Beanpot. I was surprised that he left.

Caron was outstanding behind a bad Brown team. He was one of the very best in the ECAC, so I am not worried about him.

What is a concern is what is after Caron. Graham played very little at UMass and did not look good at all against the USDT. Howard looked a little better, even though he gave up one really weak goal.

I expect Caron to be net every game. And if anything happened to him, BU might have to accelerate Chambre or Lacroix at semester break.

As for the D, no other team has seven drafted defensemen. Their woeful early play on is on the coaches, not their talent.

I would have to believe it was Pandolfo who told Duplessis they were going in a different direction. I would be surprised if Duplessis simply didn't want to be the starter at BU and instead go to QU. But maybe I have that wrong.

As for being good in the ECAC, yes QU won the title. But Mitch Benson had three years at Colgate that were all far better than what he was at BC last year. Going from the ECAC to Hockey East IS still a step up in competition top to bottom across the leagues. Maybe Caron is simply better than Benson and is on a very good BU team so it may not matter. But I am curious to see how it goes. Sometimes these transfer evaluations don't go as planned.

Lets be honest moving from the ECAC to Hockey East is like going from JV to Varsity.

Boy, some of you posters remind me of the fans of "STATE" in the Dr. Pepper commercials who are burning their jerseys until Sherriff Brian Bosworth reminds them that it was only the 1st play of the game!
BU is loaded and will undoubtedly hit their stride after a bumpy start. You have the reigning player and coach of the year in HE, a great recruiting class and some monsters returning on D. Goaltending is a question mark, but I bet that gets sorted out.

Oh I know they'll likely be fine. But after that weekend, voting them #1 seems like someone didn't even bother to look at the box scores and is going solely on what they see on the rosters as if the puck hasn't dropped on the season yet.

I hear ya...But it's not unprecedented that a team loaded with high-end talent doesn't quite gell as a team. And doesn't do the difficult things to win hockey games. And the goalie is an unknown.

The concerns are legit. Plus they are headed to South Bend this weekend to play an historically well-coached and defensively sound team. And play them twice.

The goal is to be a team that's difficult to play against. BU is a team that opponents should be SALIVATING to play against right now.

BU Hockey: Who Are We?

3 is the magic number for the weekend.

Can they give up less than 4 goals?
Can they score more than 3 goals?

I smell two 3-3 ties. :) (Check out Notre Dame's first three games)

BU Hockey: Reinvent Yourself

Very important weekend for PWR. We can recover from a loss to UNH -lots of HE games to go. These are 2 important NC games with our only Big 10 opponent this year. If we had 2 losses this weekend we really put ourselves behind the curve going forward.

Need to play with urgency. Offense flowing from the defensive effort.

Three already! They are TERRIBLE in their own end. It’s going to be a looooong and disappointing season.

Do they even look before they pass? Enough with the blind passes and giveaways. And it’s obvious that we don’t have a goalie that can bail us out. Not saying all the goals are “on him” but at some point you have to make big saves. You can’t let EVERY 50/50 chance past you. That along with a lackluster defense is a bad combination. If they can’t prevent goals they’re going nowhere. You can’t score seven goals every night.

Another poor defensive effort to start. Third game where we score the first goal, and third game where we play poorly afterwards. That first goal is usually huge, not so much with this team right now.
