BU 23-24 Post-Season and Off-Season: Jacks and Coles

I’ll pass on the guy who takes cheap shots once the other player is on the ice.

If you want to see someone turtle, just hope Pat Maroon wants to say hi to him tomorrow night.

so YOU’RE the one BUrins fan who doesn’t love the little ball of hate

Let’s get real… I’d say there’s an almost 0% chance that Celebrini stays. Obviously, anything can happen but in the reality of things, players in his position don’t stick around for another year.
On another note, can we officially “dishonorably discharge” the older Tkachuck as a BU alum for raising such a punk of a son?

Well, he also raised another former Terrier that was just named captain of Team USA at the World Championships so I'll give Keith a pass on Matthew. It's been interesting seeing Brady grow into the player he is today. I wouldn't have imagined it after his freshman year here.

I'd put the chance of Macklin returning at 0.5% When Eichel left I had it pegged at 0.25%, though I felt that Jack really loved it at BU. Not that Macklin doesn't, but you could definitely tell it more with Jack. That said, Jack seemed physically more ready to make the jump. While I really do not believe Macklin will stay, I kinda feel he needs another year here. Also, I get there is a difference between being taken number one overall and being a high first round draft pick, but Will Smith was drafted...what? Fourth or sixth overall? And he went to school instead of going right to the NHL. It's interesting that he hasn't made the decision to stay or go.

Still no word on Wilmer going anywhere via the portal, or did I miss an announcement? Aren't there only a few days left to make that decision? I would have thought a player of his caliber would've been scooped up quickly.

On the Tkachuck humor - obviously we all recognize his talent and what he would bring to whatever team he was on - but for now he is not on our team - he is on the other team - can't we all just enjoy hating on him? At least for this playoff series? (Unless there are actually any Panthers fans on this thread )

I agree Scarlet - Eichel seemed more ready and also wore his love for being at BU more than Macklin. I think your 0.5% chance of him staying is about right.

I’m pretty much resigned to Macklin leaving, I’m just more concerned that Eiserman heads to the NHL without ever suiting up for a game.

Random thought: there was a time (not that long ago) when BU entered the rink (and maybe even did warmups??) without their helmets… at the time they were one of few (maybe even the only ones to do so).

When did that end and was there a reason behind it?

Maine started that "tradition" when Walshy was there in the early 90's maybe? He said he wanted the fans to get to see the players faces during warmups, as opposed to always being hidden behind a helmet and face mask. I think Jackie followed along later.

M.Celebrini still hasn't turned 18. If you are good enough, you are old enough.
His Dad's experience with the Golden State Warriors gives him a unique perspective on Macklin's situation. Given his age, they may decide another year of maturation in college may be the way to go for his long term development. He obviously loved being at BU.
Or they may feel he is ready on and off the ice now.
Instead of giving ridiculous percentages, trust the player, his family, and coaches to make the best decision for him, his development and long term future.

Some good thoughts. I also think back to comments from Macklin's dad in one of the Athletic articles during the FF where he said it's not just about are you on-the-ice skilled enough to make the jump to the NHL, but are you off-the-ice skilled enough as well? He suggested that some players who make the jump too soon don't set themselves up for long-term success at the pro level if they aren't mature enough to live on their own, manage their nutrition and schedule, etc. - all of the things that are structured at the collegiate level.

I'd separately heard that after he left, Jack had regret that he didn't return to BU for his sophomore year for this reason, and that it caused some level of unhappiness in his early year(s) in Buffalo.

I have no idea how much any of this plays into Macklin and his family's thought process. But I think it's wrong to exclusively consider hockey skill when considering if a barely 18-year-old kid is "ready to make the jump."

I feel like Jack loved it at BU more than Macklin does, but that could be because he was from this area and was more familiar with everything. I'm not saying Macklin doesn't love it, I just got the feeling from Jack a little more. I remember at the banquet that year he broke down when addressing the crowd. I'd love the competitor in Macklin to realize what this team could do next year with him and with the others coming in and get excited to get back to the FF. There was a picture of him and Aiden at the Canucks game last night. I kinda wished he was wearing a BU Hockey hat. I don't know what the logo was on the hats the two of them were wearing. I have literally no basis for this reason but it's stuff like not wearing a BU Hockey hat at that game that says to me he's leaving. Which I think we all agree he will be doing.

And Macklin and Cole Eiserman are apparently best friends and Macklin said sometime during the past season that he hoped to room with him next year at BU. I think the maturation issue, both physical and mental, would be on the side of staying one more year. I have my fingers crossed.

I don't know how any of us could tell which of them loved it at BU more. They're both teenagers with different personalities, different coaches, different teammates, and playing in two different eras almost. Not to mention none of us are in the locker room with them. I don't believe the hat he wore to the game last night gives any indication about anything regarding his decision.

Jack's strong emotional connection to BU doesn't mean Macklin lacks similar feelings; he might just show it differently. Fans often scrutinize small details to predict a player's intentions, but we may not have the full story. Wearing a BU hat at a Canucks game might not mean much. It would be great if Macklin and other returning players are excited about the team's potential next year, as their passion could boost team chemistry and performance. Ultimately, Macklin's plans will be revealed soon, and until then, we can only speculate and hope for the best for the team.
