Same story. Frustrating that they get so little for all their puck possession. More frustrating that opponents get exactly the same or more for less puck possession and chance creation.

Yeah, hopefully someone tells the P by p guy how to pronounce it. He actually pronounced it right the first time he said it in the second period so I thought "oh, someone told him in between periods". But he went right back to it.

A win is a win, and 5 goals is welcomed after the tough streak they were on. But there is clearly still work to do. The PP is terrible, and that should be the one thing you can really coach. Matt Brown has had trouble keeping the puck on his stick for 5 games now. Skoog is trying to do too much. The lack of depth on d has been exposed and is likely the main reason this team won't go far. I hope I am wrong, but I don't see them being able to hang with the top teams out west.

But hey they are back in first place, at least for tonight and control their own destiny again, thanks to UMass beating Northeastern.

Win is a win but I totally agree with you the defense. Defense really struggled again tonight and has some awful turnovers. They really need to adjust their type of play when up a goal…stay back ..play defense. Giving up a semi breakaway late in the 3rd isn’t acceptable.

What's been missing for most of the games since the semester break is the fierce forecheck and backcheck, and relentless pressure on the puck. The forecheck had been creating turnovers and goals, the backcheck was disruptive to the opponents and often broke up plays before they got too deep into our D-zone. I agree that the defense is shaky at best, and once an opponent gets a chance to set up in our D-zone, we defend like we're a man down and can't seem to get the puck out. Leave any team in your D-zone long enough and bad things will happen.

Does anyone else notice how easily this team gets puck taken when on their stick?. The lack of strength and inability to win puck battles baffles me lately. Felt like it was really glaring in the first two periods.

Also can someone explain this powerplay to me. What exactly are they trying to do here? Just hope the guy in the slot/bumper magically gets open?

Yeah...and it's pretty simple. They hold onto the puck too long. They don't MOVE it. It's one thing to stickhandle past someone, but you can't just STAND there and hold it. And they do it a lot after they just get in the zone. One of the worst places to turn the puck over is just inside the blue line.

Same thing with the PP. This isn't a chessboard. The pieces (players) have to MOVE. Yeah, you have to move the puck, but the PLAYERS have to move also. It's too easy to defend them and they just block the passing lanes and there is no movement to get the defense out of position. I have said this before, but they don't have Pastrnak over there to score all the time. The bad angle shots don't work and the ones from the point get blocked.

The real issue is why it hasn't been corrected...

Not sure how to feel about the weekend. A sweep and back to 1st is great. Still gaping holes on defense and not where we were earlier in the season on the rush - and this is against one of the bottom 10 teams in college hockey. I guess there always a chance we get it going again.

Did anyone notice Alaska (Fairbanks) is in the tournament at this point? That snuck up on me. They are 12 in the PWR - ahead of every other HE team! Wow

Not easy getting a sweep in this league. NU dropped one to UMass. Take the two regulation wins and run. Moved you up a couple spots in the PWR into a much more favorable position now.

Ya that seemed to come out of nowhere. Seems odd that the first win over mediocre Arizona State is what launched them up the charts. They do have some very good wins on their resume:

AIC
Omaha
Northern Michigan
Notre Dame
Denver

All those teams are top 35 in PWR.

So based on Sean's Hockey East by the numbers thread, the worst BU can finish is third in the league, correct? Merrimack only has one game this weekend so that will help. Looks like we're getting snow Friday night/Saturday morning. Plowable. Though, yesterday we were supposed to get plowable snow and hardly anything fell where I live.

I believe that is correct, but the vastly preferred position is #1, as that will assure that we play the weakest remaining seed in the quarter finals, and likewise in the semi-finals. Let Merrimack and NU pound each other in the semi's, assuming we all make it that far. Finishing the regular season second or third is much less attractive. We have the pole position now, and can retain it by playing our best brand of hockey this weekend.

Score first. BU is 17-0-0 when scoring first.

Despite the relative closeness of the final score on Saturday @ Vermont, I thought BU played better that night compared to Friday. They played fast, loose, with confidence yet disciplined. Hope they build on that and don't have to rely on getting help from Lowell (in the Lowell-NU series) this weekend.
