BU 2021-22: Albie's Great Adventure

While we await the announcement of a new coach the immediate issue is who is running the program in this interim period.
I assume Jay who may or may not want the job is continuing.
The transfer portal had over 180 entries this week with some attractive new options like Simlanic from Quinnipiac

Assume existing staff made decision on Ty Amonte headed to Uconn-

Capuano? You're having a laugh.
BU would never hire one of Shawn Walsh's Mainiacs. Never, ever ever.
It would send Jack Parker and company over the edge.

I would suspect that the job would be David Quinn's, if he wanted to come back. But does he want another shot at the NHL? Or return to BU for the remainder of his career.
Despite what JD wrote, Quinn's tenure with the Rangers did not ding his reputation. He took over a major rebuilding program, and extremely young team and brought them forward. The Rangers thought that at that point they wanted a more established NHL coach to take the veterans to the next level.
Quinn will get another NHL chance, if that is the direction that he wants to go. In the meantime, he can coach US National Teams and in the Olympics while collecting his hefty salary from the Rangers. He doesn't need the money, or to rush unless a return to BU is his wish.

If not Quinn, it should come down to Pandolfo, with no head coaching experience and a season at the college level, or someone else with successful head coaching experience. It will not be Rick Bennett, especially after his inglorious exit from Union.

Whomever is the choice, it will be interesting to know the process.

Welcome to the spin zone on Quinn's tenure with the Rangers. He didn't bring them anywhere. That's not to say it's all his fault but no need to rewrite history.

Why wouldn't that decision be Amonte's decision, and his decision solely with his family?

It would be, although i get what DLG is saying in that a move could have been partially prompted by the current staff discussing potential playing time etc next year.

He must only have one year left of eligibility? Or does a redshirt year (?) and a covid year give him one more? He is listed as a senior on the goterriers.com roster.... is he starting grad school at UConn?

Ty's 6th year was not planned. This past season was his Covid year so he had to apply to the NCAA for a medical waiver to get this 6th year. BU did not expect this and, as far as I know, did not have scholarship $ or roster space for him this coming year. Therefore, he transferred to UConn who did have that space. I believe Joe Pereira was involved in getting him to UConn too.

This doesn't seem to be a matter of the BU staff deciding they don't want Ty anymore, instead him finding a roster spot for an unplanned extra year.

Last night's defeat of Michigan's juggernaut recalls BU's revenge upset of defending champ Michigan in the FF semis 25 years ago. So I've posted the video highlights and Mark Hurlman's narrative of the "Few Good Men" season of 1996-97. Great memories, even with the N/C disappointment. http://terrierhockey.blogspot.com/

Sometimes the best team doesn’t win

:-)

Morrisson probably regrets that quote. No doubt he was a great player, and that team was 'supposed' to cruise to the championship. But this opening 5-8 minutes with both 4th liners (Matt Wright, Dan Lacouture) and 1st liners (Drury) throwing their weight around showed that BU had come to play.

I haven't questioned Parker on the x's and o's very often, but I feel that he underestimated the offensive talent of the Sioux, and that he should have stuck with the same one-man forecheck against them, rather than go back to a more traditional aggressive forecheck.

So now that it wouldn't steal the thunder from the FF, I am thinking we hear about the next coach in the next 2-3 days. If we don't, then I think it is clear that there isn't a pre-picked candidate (e.g. Pandolfo).

Let's ask the important questions: Why wasn't Jack wearing a suit coat? : )

Yesterday's result in the NC game is good for BU. The team with all the draft picks and the younger skill players beat the team with 25 year-olds and one draft pick.

It was a great atmosphere at the Garden last night. I was great to be back.

Heard a rumor that the new coach will be announced today. But it's after 12 noon. If they were going to announce something, wouldn't we know if there would be an announcement by now?

Just saw they announced the women's soccer coach retired. Perhaps they're letting that story go out and not be overshadowed by a hockey announcement.
