Any believers out there? That was as solid a defensive effort as we have had all season. A bit slower for us from the opening face off, but we got chances. The power play is clicking and penalty kill was overwhelmingly great. I really like this team right now. 16 now in the PWR. The big boys have come to play. Can’t wait for Monday!!
I agree on the O'Brien penalty, but Skoog was cross-checked as he was skating away from the net after the goal, which should have been a penalty on PC.One thing I don't like: this team is getting a little too cocky and getting ahead of themselves, and it is going to cost us one of these games: Peterson's penalty against Harvard; Skoog - who is an expert at being a pest by hanging out in the crease after the whistle - took it too far and put us shorthanded right after a goal. JOB could have cancelled out a PP when he went back after the PC player, who it seemed on replay just got tangled up with him.
I am pretty sure these guys are still going to need to win the HE Tourney to make the NCAAs, I think they should stay a little more humble and focus on the task at hand.
Lots to like about how this team is playing. The shut-down team defense over the last 12 minutes was awesome. Loved the Carrabes goal. And good for Vinny.

To be safe, you're probably correct. But the fact that we're even talking about the POSSIBILITY of them getting in via the PWR is amazing considering where this team was in December. Right now we are tied for #16 (and Northeastern is #15, setting up a huge game Monday night). Now I realize that there can't be any upsets in any of the tournaments so #16 isn't good enough, but it's still amazing. Not to mention that I believe they CAN win the HE tourney. They are 2-0-1 against UMass, who is "supposed" to be the best team in the league. And they may actually have enough firepower this year to overcome a team like Lowell, who likes to win 1-0. At least it makes the final few weeks more interesting than any of us might have suspected a month ago.
One caveat, though...the HE standings are misleading because Lowell has 2 games in hand over us and UMass has FOUR. Even UConn, only a point behind, has THREE. So it's likely the best we can realistically finish is fourth. But again, at least there is reason to have renewed interest.
Regarding the "cocky" comment...this has been discussed ad nauseum. It's like, "What else is new?" I don't know why that is except that, as discussed, this is a risk you get with high-end talent. Sometimes the confidence spills over to the next level. I'm not sure it can be avoided. But the alternative is lower-end players who have to play within a more structured system (and usually play over their heads for a time) and overachieve to make a run in the playoffs. Personally, it's more fun to watch the talented players and you have to sort of put up with some of the disadvantages of that, IMO.
So, I surmise there's real nastiness between O'Brien and PC? After scoring each of his goals, he did the congrats along the BU bench, and appeared to say something into the PC bench area.
To be accurate BU is 8-5-2 at home and 7-4-1 on the road. To date in league play home teams are 43-44-8. Only UML has a good home record, while BU, UConn and UML have good road records:Personally, I don't think the seeding in HE matters at all. As we have seen this season anyone can beat anyone on any given night (Vermont game ring a bell?). Home ice doesn't seem to be a factor for anyone in HE. BU is 8-5 at home and 7-4 on the road....I assume most teams are like that. Single elimination is going to be very interesting.
This times eleventy million. Makes me a little nervous about Monday.
And reiterate chickod's post - I noticed the same thing about the remaining schedule. Even if BU wins out, it won't mean all that much (potential assistance with the PWR notwithstanding) if other teams vault over them because they all have so many more games to play than them. What a bizarre schedule. I guess what we need to hope for is to get home ice that first round.
UConn has 2 vs umass and 2 vs nu
nu then adds 2 vs bc (scarlet will be pulling for the igles?!?!)
umass ends their season with 2 vs bc (?!?!?)
umlolol has 3 vs uhn. Ain’t nobody catching them. Congrats on 1st place!
You can do that on the CHN website. If BU had won the Sacred Heart game in regulation they would be 14th and if they had beat Vermont in regulation they would be 16th. It looks like if BU had won any of the games in regulation they lost in regulation would be 14th, while winning any of the games they tied/lost in overtime would get them to 15th/16th. It also looks like if they had won any two games they lost in regulation they would be 12th.While idle last night, we dropped from 16 to 18 in the PWR based on other results. Interesting to follow it and see how it changes.
As discussed, we dug too big a hole early for the PWR to be a realistic path - have to win Hockey East to get in.
Would be interesting to see where we would be in the PWR if we could have won either the Sacred Heart game or the Vermont game.
