Not sure if any of you are planning on coming to Ann Arbor this weekend, but if you are- be aware that parking will be difficult Friday- there are 2 other sporting events going on at the same time- WBB at 6:30 at Crisler, and M-Wrestling at 7 at Kliff Keen- both of which will use some parking that is close to Yost.

As in the past, it will be great to see some BU jerseys at Yost. :)

I'll be around with some friends.
Any recommendations for daytime activities? Places to see/eat/adventure?

Suggestions much appreciated!

mookie is considering going to T's to watch the game. hope there isn't a protest that will keep him from driving home (or getting his car rocked due to tD sticker :D )

Not sure what you are interested in. UM has a great art museum, and a few other history museums scattered around the main central campus. Down south of Yost is Schembechler Hall- a museum to the football team. Cool shops along Liberty and Main streets. The last remains of tree colors along the Huron River and Gallup Park. I wish I could tell you that you could walk into the Big House- but they had to close it during non-games a few years ago...

Perhaps this site will help- https://www.visitannarbor.org/ or http://annarborobserver.com/articles/front_page.html

There are a few brew pubs along Washington St- one good one is Ann Arbor Brewery. I'm assuming that the high end spots are not what you are looking for (Logan, The Earle, The Chop House, Mani Osteria, etc), one of the best chefs has a cool Miami-Cuban inspired place call Frita Batitos (Mario Batali apparently likes to go there). A classic college place has been mentioned- the Brown Jug and Charlies on South U. If wine is your thing- many of the restaurants along the Main Street corridor have a good wine selection, particularly at their bars by the glass.

For the most part, you will be happy wandering around and just walking into a bar along South U, State, Liberty, Washington, and Main Sts.

It's not quite the same variety as Boston, but we really love our restaurants.

If you are willing to drive for a long day of stuff- Dearborn has the Henry Ford- which is about a 40 min drive east. Or go further east and go over one of the two North to South entries into Canada from the US mainland. But that's getting a bit farther away.

It's funny- it's hard to think about a lot of that when you live here. We are so used to it. :)

Hope that helps!

edit- my wife reminded me of the Jolly Pumpkin on Main St. and another classic is Ashley's Pub on State Street. Also, mlive.com may be a good reference. Blue Tractor Brewery.

Almost forgot one of the most famous place here in Ann Arbor- Zingerman's Deli. Any dignitary that has been to town goes there. No beer or anything- just a great Deli.

Just noted that the game times each night are quite different- 7:35 Friday and 5:05 on Saturday. Which would explain why someone asked about what sports bar to go to for football....

The most interesting part of watching the webcast was the Michigan radio guys chatter when they were off air but still audible in feed. They don't like that ref pair.

You have the feeling that if they can score one they can score a bunch. They just can't get that one.

Seems like McAvoy is trying too hard and not getting anything right.

The way they just fell apart after the third goal was disheartening.

Hopefully they can suck it up and come out playing like they did in the second period. Quinn wanted a team that was tough to play against. Be nice to some of that today.

Re: BU 2016-17 Season Thread I: The Kids are Alright

I watched just a few minute of the first period (pretty much just as few minute two PP goals were being scored.

- Seemed that Kelller was really missed
- I got a chuckle out of the broadcasters. After the second Michigan goal: "BU if you are going to take penalties, Michigan is going to make you pay". After the penalty call against Michigan: "the refs need to let them play 5 on 5".
- I also found the video feed to be tough to watch. The cameras kept changing, way too often. I was getting dizzy. And at every whistle - the exact same shot of the band.

Anyway, hoping to watch more of this afternoon's game, and hoping to see a couple goals but the good guys.

First ever win at Yost? They needed that.

Wow, that's remarkable for an old barn.

I caught a good bit of the third period. Good to see JFK, Greenway, Harper, McAvoy, etc. stepping up.

Eager to see highlights. I still think Quinn has to get LaCouvee a few starts. Gonna bite him in the *** if he doesn't. Not to mention it's kind of a dick move. By all accounts he's a good kid who works hard.

Tough day for the Wolverines on the ice and the gridiron.

Today's blogpost has links to the highlights (they omitted Harper's goal) and a full-game replay (if you can tolerate the extremely whiny PBP guy and his shouts of "Look out" whenever BU threatened to score). Also an interesting comment by Scott Young calling Patrick Curry the kind of guy BU needs to win games like this.

Get over it. Quinn has identified LaCouvee as a backup. Many teams do not play backups often. I'm ok with Quinn not making his goalie decisions based on whether or not he "a good kid". And by the way, Oettinger's numbers are 1.79 GAA .932 save percentage

This is not a 1A and 1B situation. Not even remotely close.

Oettinger is the clear No. 1. If BU is going to win anything, it is with him.

Lacouvee is a decent backup. That is just what he is. People forget that he came late when Maguire missed his junior year. He had a losing record with a team won everything until the third period of the NCAA championship game. I don't think he was ever brought her to be the starter. He was brought here to be Stephan Siwiec.

Re: BU 2016-17 Season Thread I: The Kids are Alright

Three shutouts in four games and calling for the backup? Yeah, you don't ever get to be coach.

To be fair to Bomber, Jake did not have a good weekend and has very clearly struggled on the road albeit against top competition. He hung in tough yesterday but was fighting the puck all weekend, got out of position a few times which is very uncharacteristic for him, and let in a few real softies. He certainly deserves to continue as the #1 goalie, but it might be time to give Connor a start just to give Jake a mental break. Not to mention we have three games in five days starting on Saturday, so giving Connor one of the UConn games would be fine.
