BU 2016-17 Season Thread I: The Kids are Alright

Word I heard through the grapevine after the game is that Keller sustained an MCL injury after being injured early in the third and not coming back. He is expected out for approximately a month preliminarily.

Did any see what happened? I only saw him on the ice after he went down.

I rewatched it on the stream online and it really doesn't look like much happened. The NU defender sort of pushed into him but not specifically on his leg, and he just slid down. Don't know if he crashed into the boards as the camera panned away,

Bummer on Keller. But an opportunity for someone else. Who wants to grab the reigns!?

We should make up Bingo cards with all the Agganis Arena screw-ups. Great way to spice up the evening. Two more from last night: 1) No video for the between periods interview. 2) They never played the Cane's Challenge video. Oh, one more. What was that pregnant pause after the anthem and before the game? The band director looked puzzled. #TrainWreck

Three straight home shut-outs.

Overall it was a bit better. They returned the flag on the jumbotron and on the side ribbons for the national anthem. The opening video went without a hitch. Some improvement on the graphics. However, a moving static picture of a player seems so 90s when many jumbotrons will show a short video of a player. (I'm not sure if I explained that last point clearly, but those who saw it will know what I mean!)

The Cane's challenge video was shown during the first intermission. (still the old one when they said they were filming a new one weeks ago) However you can swap that that out with them screwing up the Jim Prior voice opening by playing it too late and having to cut it off mid-stream.

Not just Keller, but Cloonan went out with an "upper body injury" according to the DFP. So if neither is available for Michigan, who moves up to the top six and who takes the C3 spot? If Olsson is recovered (hit in the head by a puck in practice), he's one possibility for the top six. Andren, who made his first start after a hand injury is another. Kelley is playing well, but I'd prefer going with more size. Just a guess:
Bellows-JFK-Andren/Olsson
Harper-Carpenter-Greenway
Andren/Olsson-Curry-Roberto
Kelley-McDermott-Chabot

Three straight home shut-outs.
First time at Agganis, just the third time overall (once at Walter Brown in 1983-84 and once at Boston Arena in 1927-28 & 28-29) and the first time to start a season.

Team looks very explosive offensively. Some d-zone miscues which are largely covered by a very strong defense and solid goaltending. That may have been the best officiated game I've seen in a few years last night by the way.

I just got a push notification from CHN. Out "long term." :(

Very incomplete push notification. Here's the full text of Quinn's quote:

Boston Hockey Blog ‏@BOShockeyblog 2m2 minutes ago
Coach Quinn confirms Clayton Keller is out week-to-week with a lower body injury. "It's a lot better news than we anticipated."

Also:
Boston Hockey Blog ‏@BOShockeyblog 54s54 seconds ago Boston, MA
Coach Quinn says Nik Olsson may available for Friday's game. Upper body injury isn't shoulder related: "We're feeling optimistic there."

There's a watch party tomorrow night at T's Pub in case anyone is interested.

Not sure if any of you are planning on coming to Ann Arbor this weekend, but if you are- be aware that parking will be difficult Friday- there are 2 other sporting events going on at the same time- WBB at 6:30 at Crisler, and M-Wrestling at 7 at Kliff Keen- both of which will use some parking that is close to Yost.

As in the past, it will be great to see some BU jerseys at Yost. :)

I'll be there - thanks for the heads up. We actually have a pre-game event planned at the Brown Jug so I'm going to park downtown and we're going to walk to Yost from there. Any other such conflicts on Saturday?

No- and may people may stay home to watch the football game vs. Iowa.

More to alfa, how available is the parking downtown near Brown Jug and how far of a walk from there to Yost is it?

Re: BU 2016-17 Season Thread I: The Kids are Alright

It is less than a mile from Brown Jug to Yost. There is street parking in the area.

Re: BU 2016-17 Season Thread I: The Kids are Alright

Thanks for the heads-up about logistics for this weekend. Where in downtown AA do you recommend for watching the football game Saturday night?

Hard to pin one down- there are a lot of sports bars downtown- but if you want to be among students, Charlie's and Brown Jug as well as other bars on South University would be a good place to start. On the other "side" of the diag is Scorekeepers on Maynard. (I'd suggest looking on a map to see what i'm talking about)

Yea, roughly a mile. There IS street parking, but not all that much on South U- you may find some more on the streets pointing south of South U.

One thing to note- parking meters- they only charge up to 6pm- so you can park, pay up until 6, and stay there all night.

Walk down South U until it dead ends into State St- and turn left and head south until you hit Yost. Or you can wander through some of the campus and a few of the frats on a more direct route.

And it appears that the weather is going to be nice- so the walking will be easy.

Thanks for the suggestions! Last time we were there in 2013 found the walk from downtown to/from Yost to be very doable. Plan on doing same this time pre- and post-game.

Looking forward to 2 excellent games between exciting young teams!
