Re: BU 2016-17 Season Thread I: The Kids are Alright
I'll be around with some friends.
Any recommendations for daytime activities? Places to see/eat/adventure?
Suggestions much appreciated!
Not sure what you are interested in. UM has a great art museum, and a few other history museums scattered around the main central campus. Down south of Yost is Schembechler Hall- a museum to the football team. Cool shops along Liberty and Main streets. The last remains of tree colors along the Huron River and Gallup Park. I wish I could tell you that you could walk into the Big House- but they had to close it during non-games a few years ago...
Perhaps this site will help-

There are a few brew pubs along Washington St- one good one is Ann Arbor Brewery. I'm assuming that the high end spots are not what you are looking for (Logan, The Earle, The Chop House, Mani Osteria, etc), one of the best chefs has a cool Miami-Cuban inspired place call Frita Batitos (Mario Batali apparently likes to go there). A classic college place has been mentioned- the Brown Jug and Charlies on South U. If wine is your thing- many of the restaurants along the Main Street corridor have a good wine selection, particularly at their bars by the glass.
For the most part, you will be happy wandering around and just walking into a bar along South U, State, Liberty, Washington, and Main Sts.
It's not quite the same variety as Boston, but we really love our restaurants.
If you are willing to drive for a long day of stuff- Dearborn has the Henry Ford- which is about a 40 min drive east. Or go further east and go over one of the two North to South entries into Canada from the US mainland. But that's getting a bit farther away.
It's funny- it's hard to think about a lot of that when you live here. We are so used to it.
Hope that helps!
edit- my wife reminded me of the Jolly Pumpkin on Main St. and another classic is Ashley's Pub on State Street. Also, mlive.com may be a good reference. Blue Tractor Brewery.
Almost forgot one of the most famous place here in Ann Arbor- Zingerman's Deli. Any dignitary that has been to town goes there. No beer or anything- just a great Deli.
