BU 2015 Offseason Thread-To quote The Clash - Should he stay or should he go?

From today's Boston Globe Hockey Notes

Former BU standout Herb Wakabayashi died on Monday in Japan. He was 70. Wakabayashi was a two-time All-American, in 1967-68 and 1968-69.

We got a goalie. A good one. Yay!

Definitely a yay!

As the folks on the RPI thread can attest, don't count your goalies before they register for classes.

Hopefully be honors the LOI, but major junior does not honor the Gentleman's Agreement, either.

Well of course, everyone knows that. I will say there is a much higher chance of a Canadian prospect who played in the US only one year bolting on his LOI to play MJ than a US prospect who has played in the US his entire life and playing on the USNTDP. Still does have a chance on happening (hello Milano) and I'm not expecting all of BU recruits to show. Too many top recruits in the pipeline (which is great) to be surprised if one gets picked off.

He's ready for the NHL, but besides winning a national championship he still needs to prove that he's the best American born college player in New England! :D It's really great to see that he takes his commitment to BU seriously. That's something seen less and less these days.

Sean

Vesey will have something to say about that

If Eichel returns to BU he will win the Walter Brown Award. However, Eichel or not, Vessey will not win the award again in 2015-16.

It appears that BU's goaltending situation has been cleared up for the next several years.

Next season, Sean Maguire returns and will compete with Connor LaCouvee for the top spot. For what it is worth, I thought Maguire was better than O'Connor the two years that they were together. And had BU gotten the level of goaltending that Maguire gave them in the Hockey East playoffs during his freshman in last season's NCAA tournament, a sixth national title would reside on Comm. Ave.
Prep school recruit Max Prawdzik will be the third string goalie.

A college coach told me that Prawdzik has more potential than the typical third-string goalie. So while he may not be the next John Curry, he could develop into more than a door opener.

The commitment from USNTDP goalie Jake Oettinger is a huge get. The same coach said that Oettinger rates as the best possible 2016 goalie get - "the real deal."

Maguire will still have a year of eligibility left, and will likely graduate. Does he stay for a fifth year, or sign with the Penguins? He will probably go, leaving two seasons of Oettinger, LaCouvee and Prawdzik before another goalie needs to be brought in.

By all accounts, David Quinn and staff are doing a great job bringing in top talent. Goaltending was the last big question-mark for the next several years. Now that has been addressed and answered!

I agree. Then O'Connor improved a lot from year 2 to year 3, more than it is reasonable to expect a goalie to do. If Maguire is simply the goalie he was his first two years, IMO, he would be worse than O'Connor was last year. Who knows what to expect from a goalie after a year off.

Quinn told a group of BU fans last summer that he prefers having one goalie assume the starting job, rather than use a rotation. Maguire's injury made it easy to hand the job to OC, who clearly thrived with the full work-load. He acknowledged this several times including during his presser in Ottawa last week. So, is either Maguire or Lacouvee likely to seize the starting job?

Do we have a schedule (pieces of?) starting to emerge?

Rogie mentioned an exhibition 10/16 (fri)

We know of stupid red stupid hot hockey stupid nov 28 vs fat mike's boys.

Anything else?!?

Not sure how ncaa has not barked yet. Tiger Woods gets in hot water for having Arnold Palmer pay $24.00 for a lunch, which Tiger offered to pay. But college kids can go to Stanley Cup on and on. Very strange, which would lead me to believe zero chance coming back. Ok for MJ guys but Zd 1 guys? Weird.
