What I understand is that Powers stays for one year unless he decides to leave and then Young will come on board

If and when that occurs the torch will have been passed from my generation of former players. Time will tell.

Buddy Powers is not going anywhere and was asked to remain on the staff for a reason.

Albie O'Connell is going to replace Bavis. I would that by the end of next week that will be announced.

Re: BU 2013 Offseason Thread - Bring on the Mighty Quinn

Was Bavis asked to stay but resigned on his own? Or did he resign because he was asked to resign?

Re: BU 2013 Offseason Thread - Bring on the Mighty Quinn

That is correct, like I said they only way Powers would be leaving is if he did so on his own..Young will be here next year..O'Connell will be here this year

Why is it that you believe Powers will want to leave? He is a hard worker and has been doing the majority of the recruiting for BU...I know he is older, but he really enjoys the work and I don't see him going anywhere anytime soon. He is in his mid fifties, at his alma mater, has already been a head coach, and is likely exactly where he wants to be. I'd be willing to bet that he is at BU for another 5-7 years.

Bavis resigned on his own. ushr.com gives some details about the situation. Quinn asked Bavis to stay on. The two are good friends, just do not see eye to eye on how to run a program. Bavis was mostly upset with the university and how he was not actually considered for the job after all of his service.

I don't believe he left BU because of Quinn...I think he left because he couldn't stomach working for a university that disrespected him.

I am not saying he wants to leave, what I am saying is that the only way he doesn't stay is if he decided for some strange reason to leave on his own..he was told he would be on the staff and I assume he will be for 1 year..Scott Young will be hired next year to replace him

Mid-50s?

Buddy graduated in 1975?!?

"Doogie Powers" :D

Re: BU 2013 Offseason Thread - Bring on the Mighty Quinn

Can't Miss Kid, Bobby Carpenter's kid is coming to BU and his name is Bobo. Really? Bobo?

Albie O'Connor never saw a stupid penalty not worth taking, so here's hoping that doesn't rub off on the players. :)

I'm pretty sure Bobo is a nickname (imagine if he & Boomer Ewing played at the same time :D )

I'm also fairly certain that O'Connell the coach preaches more discipline than O'Connell the player did. Hopefully people can change for the better after 15 years (and from your early 20s to late 30s).

Buddy Powers is a good man. He also has a very strong coaching background, and had success as a head coach at RPI and Bowling Green (before BG lessened its support for hockey). He has loads of contacts throughout the hockey world.

He is about 60 years old ... certainly not too. And it will be a positive to have someone with his background during the transition.

We know Albie O'Connell has had success coaching the power play at Northeastern and Harvard.

Would also like to see Mike Grier receive some serious consideration, if he's interested.

Look on the bright side, this kid comes in with a ready-made pet name for the fanboys. :D

Or will they be calling him "bobes" so they can feel special giving him their own pet name?

Can't wait to find out.

Would you get mad and post here complaining we copied BC fanboys nicknames again if #BobobeyBaker starts popping up everywhere?

Well Louganis, I would have considered it a campaign slogan more than a pet nickname but I'll defer to an expert like you on the topic and let you decide. Just let us all know once you've made your final decision.

FWIW Bobobey Baker is pretty **** good material to start a campaign with. Did you know you can't spell BOOB without BOBO?!?!?! Probably the closest you'll get to one of those in the next few years. :D

Your post bestows great honor upon me for two distinct and significant reasons.

Primarily, as I was still awaiting a response to my reply to your late March foray into the BU thread on this same topic I did not expect to be blessed with a witty response so soon, thank you for the acknowledgement.

Secondly, for a poster such as yourself, who brings up the topic of "fanboyism" in multiple threads with more predictability than the lunar calendar, to anoint me as the expert on categorizing pet names versus slogans is quite humbling. Knowing that you will dutifully follow my choice places an immense amount of pressure on me. Therefore substantial thought was necessary to arrival at my final judgement; that #GadreaubeyBaker, #RobertobeyBaker, #BobobeyBaker, and #CasonHohbeyBaker are all quite "fanboyish" whether one wants to call them pet names, nicknames, or slogans is a mere distraction from that self-evident truth.

How you live your life following my "expert" conclusion remains to be seen, but I await with great anticipation.

Re: BU 2013 Offseason Thread - Bring on the Mighty Quinn

Carpenter is for either the 2015 or 2016 class.
There are 15 kids on Heisenberg's B.U. list right now. The list is not only those guys coming in next season. Anyway, Bobo ain't on the BU list.
