Re: BU 2013 Offseason Thread - Bring on the Mighty Quinn
I listened on the radio, but Bernie and Tom talked about Kurker and his penalties. They seemed to suggest that was a difference we could expect with Quinn. He'll bench guys for the rest of the game, whereas Parker would only bench them for a little while after a bad penalty.
Congrats to Dave Quinn on his first win and to the team for getting 2 points in the league standings. In general I was pleased with what I saw. It will take a while for this team to come together, but I saw a 60 minute effort, generally good decision-making, and a lot of promise with the talent level.
- Shot totals were a little odd. I thought the game was relatively even territorially. But when BU was dominating, they just didn't put as many shots on as UMass did when they were dominating (parts of the first, almost all of the third). I did not think that the domination in the third was a result of a lack of effort by BU. UMass just found a groove for a while.
- Lots of freshmen out there. Five forwards and two defensemen. I thought all of them fit in pretty well. I didn't realize Baillergeon was so big. Somerby too. Roberto showed good speed. Collier probably has the biggest jump to make. And Tommy Kelley is certainly showing he belongs (beautiful top shelf one timer). But my favorite was Dillon Lawrence. He was all over the ice, with major hustle. Reminds me of the way Lane looked last year, with a little more size.
- Good to have Jim Prior back, but something was going on with the sound system, especially before and after the game - it was very difficult to hear him clearly.
- Sick curl and drag goal by Rodrigues.
- Maguire was outstanding in goal. Made some huge saves.
- I thought the team did a great job blocking pucks and passes.
- Did Kurker go to the doghouse after his second penalty? He didn't see a shift the rest of the game.
- I was disappointed with the attendance. Almost as disappointed as my son and I were when we realized Qdoba is gone! What happened? I see there is one in Kenmore - perhaps too many too close.
Hopefully the team will keep it going tonight.
