Re: BU 2013 Offseason Thread - Bring on the Mighty Quinn

missing?

ummm. the use of articles in sentences.... "...to help us in our quest for national championship." "with your thoughtful support, we will enjoy terrific year."

punctuation would be nice. in places.

there was a lot missed.
CGS profs would be returning this with a big F :D

Can anyone explain the new giving levels. What happened to the pre-game meal in the FoH room? The letter gave levels but no clear explanation.

That is pretty funny... I just quickly scanned saw something about how the guys were excercising 4 days a week etc etc.... (should that be something we are impressed by?)

At 6 AM! Two years ago they were still drinking at 6 AM four days a week. ;)

Re: BU 2013 Offseason Thread - Bring on the Mighty Quinn

The levels are dumb too
You can give at either 2500 or 5000 - and there is no difference in benefits (other than you get/earn more pts :) so you can go to Philly and see the boys win "a" national championship :D )

The 150/300/500 (can't recall exact $) earn one the same crap too.

This program (loyalty crap) is poorly run. Mookie is one mailing lists for mc/PC/Umass and get constant emails an mailing about events, outings, opportunities to give. Good ole bu though just expects you to fork it over on your own,

Mookie refuses to help those who don't help themselves!

For the first Quinn "letter" to go out like that ... Well someone should be ****ing fired.

Re: BU 2013 Offseason Thread - Bring on the Mighty Quinn

BU is getting no love in the poster polls on the HE Summer thread.

If Maguire and O'Connor can combine their respective strong halves from last season, this team could surprise. No doubt the biggest concern is the depth at defense.

I'm excited to see what style the Quinn-led troops hit the ice with on 10/11.

Anyone else notice that face value on the St FX game was only $6?

That's a switch...

Funny, offense is my top concern. After O'Regan-Rodrigues-Hohmann, I'm not sure who is going to score the goals. Trying to take an unbiased view of things, I see no reason on paper that BU should be predicted to finish above 5th/6th. Hopefully there will be some surprises.

It's a fair place to put them now, lots of unknowns going into the season. I could see them just as easily being a solid home-ice team as I could in the 7-9 group.

Re: BU 2013 Offseason Thread - Bring on the Mighty Quinn

I'd slot them at #4. Higher if Jerry York misses significant time over at BC again this year as they're a different team without him behind the bench.

I think we're going to see a better style of play with Quinn combined with good goaltending ought to get us home ice at the very least.

I'm sort of in the same boat, I think 5/6 is fair, as on paper I don't see how you can project them ahead of UML, ND, BC or Gillies (PC) but when the dust settles and the top 5 teams are separated by 2 points again like last year -especially since this year could be even more of a cluster with a 26% reduction in league games- I would expect BU to be ahead of (or win a tiebreaker with) 1 of those 4.

Re: BU 2013 Offseason Thread - Bring on the Mighty Quinn

About Lowell. I'm happy for the program and what they've accomplished, but sometimes those "Defense 1st + Great Goalie" teams have a setback the next year. Not saying they won't be good, but their rivals are going to have a year's experience under their belts trying to figure them out, and for BU's sake the inexplicable coaching decision to try to out defense them in last year's playoffs will mercifully not be repeated (I hope).

Again, happy for Lowell but happier they didn't win it all last year. Had they done so we'd be subject to butt-boring hockey for the next decade as every coach in the league strove to emulate their style of play.

Cosigned

As for the team, forwards are the biggest question mark. If Quinn allows Rodrigues to "do this thing" the kid is going to be fun to watch, and if he was able to increase his speed in the off season then he may dominate. Danny is always in the right sport at the right time and scores very important goals that way. Lane needs to have the same jump BU's Juniors had last year. I hope Lane is placed on the second line so we can have 2 solid lines. If the new kids perform, give them the ice. BU needs results. BU's goaltending is solid and I think Maguire is going to very solid this year. Last year he just seemed to not be comfortable with his equipment and hopefully his new stuff fits him well. (he would always press his chest protector inwards before facing a shot) I really like BU's Defense. I think we are going to lose 2 players for the Would Juniors but its going to hurt more upfront then on D.

Just my 2 cents

Re: BU 2013 Offseason Thread - Bring on the Mighty Quinn

I think BU is capable of 10 league wins. That should put them on the boarder for a first round bye. They'll probably be fighting with PC, UNH and MC for the last two first round bye spots. I think they should expect to finish with more wins than losses. With the addition of ND and the league schedule down to 20 games, there will probably be 2 teams that finished with more wins than losses last year that won't this year. The difference between 2nd and 6th in the standings last year was 2 games. It could easily be that close again this year and with only 20 league games on the schedule, it could be even closer. What BU needs to do this year is beat the teams they should beat and hope for some luck against equivalent and better teams and they could reasonably finish anywhere from 7th to 2nd. I'd put them at 5th with PC just ahead of them and UNH just behind.

I'd generally agree with this regarding Lowell and this upcoming season... although given our 0-3 record against Lowell up to that point in the season, I didn't have a problem with the shift in stratedgy... and I did think we played well in that game against a team that was just a little better.

I think somewhere in that 4/5/6 slot is reasonable to expect for this year.... and right on the bubble (mabye in, maybe out) for the NCAA.

Wouldn't Lowell's setback have been last year using this theory?
