BU 2013-2014: Ready to Quinn

Re: BU 2013-2014: Ready to Quinn

I need 2 attendance over/unders for the Wednesday night Dartmouth game...

1) What will they announce it to be?

2) What will it really be?

Re: BU 2013-2014: Ready to Quinn

Warsofsky made his NHL debut last night for Bs. Tenth player from '09 team to play an NHL game. He made their opening night roster in 2012 but didn't dress and was then sent down. Don't think he'll be up long but quite an accomplishment especially for a kid from the Boston area.

Happy for him too. Who was the BU poster who was adamant that Warso would never make the pros?

They won't announce it just like they didn't for Bentley and it will actually be 2,700

I'll just go with over what UMass had at their last home game.

And I thought the UMASS attendance was a typo...

In looking at the 2nd half schedule, I don't see any game where attendance may approach 5K (assuming no major weather issues). My guesstimates are:

1/8 Dartmouth - 2900
1/24 Vermont - 4500
1/25 Vermont - 3800 (this is the 4pm game)
2/7 Lowell - 4400
2/15 UNH - 4900
2/28 Northeastern - 4500

Re: BU 2013-2014: Ready to Quinn

For today's US Jr. National Team exhibition vs. Sweden, Danny O'Regan is centering the top line with Ryan Hartman and Nic Kerdiles, who was his left wing in 2012 when the U.S. won gold at the World U18s. Eichel is centering the second line and Grzelcyk is paired with BC's Ian McCoshen on defense.

Are you predicting this is what they will announce, or what the real attendance will actually be?

Re: BU 2013-2014: Ready to Quinn

Either Harry wasn't going to games or he was drunk most of the time. Again, nothing against Cohen but he was terrible on defense. Doesn't make him a bad guy, it just is what it is.

Colby Cohen was good going forward, and sometimes very good and average on defense, and not always that. Problem was he didn't always work hard enough in his own end.
Shattenkirk was always a much more complete player, and deserved 1st team AA honors more.

Cohen did make 1st team AA, and that is a fact. Whether it was completely deserved is subject to debate.
Yes, it is often numbers which drive AA honors on defense. A player like Strait, a shutdown defender without the O numbers, simply does not get the same consideration.

Cohen had the honors, numbers and size that intrigued NHL scouts. So leaving when he did was a good time for him to go, before his defensive deficiencies were really found out against better players. He made it to The Show.
That he didn't stick is also telling.

Re: BU 2013-2014: Ready to Quinn

Danny Spang was also a First Team All-American FWIW. And we all know how amazing he was at hockey!!!!!!

And of course 90% of the time these people look at point totals and pick awards based on that; completely absurd for defensemen. I think rover was more trying to say that he was bad defensively (because it's difficult to deny his offensive abilities)... and being picked as an AA still doesn't refute that IMO.

Spang was a better all-around player than C.Cohen, but not as good as Shattenkirk, who didn't get 1st team AA honors.

I agree with your assessment of how defensemen are chosen for AA honors.
Spang was a better COLLEGE player than I think you care to admit. You don't necessarily have to be a top prospect to be a very good college player.

I'm guessing these are not too far off... I'd say low 3's for Dartmouth... And a bit lower in the 4's for most of the others

i was just gonna post that. Was school in session?. Has Denver ever played before 428 before? and while we're at it, what's Frozen Fenway going to draw? I think your saturday will do good to get 20K which would be ok. It's UML's first time so that helps and the Mainahs always travel well . They travel better than they fill (or not fill) Alfond. Our's should be ok because there are ND lemmings everywhere and it's their first time

Colby was drafted in June 2007--same as Shattenkirk--before arriving at BU. Quinn coached him for two years and when Colby turned pro with the Avs, Quinn was his coach at Lake Erie. Knew exactly what kind of player they were getting. So did the Bruins when they traded for him. Both organizations felt the offensive upside was worth taking a chance that he'd improve enough at the other end.
