Re: BU 2013-2014: Ready to Quinn

any reason why friday is 7:30 but no tv?

i actually wish BC would do this more. tough to get to campus for 7:00 on a Friday night.

BU (and MC, and maybe others) have all Friday home games at 7:30, I'm a fan of it for sure.

Personally not a fan of the 7:30 games.... but I can see why some people would be with the extra time to get to the arena. For me it is an extra 30 minutes that the kids get more over tired...

All BU home Friday night games are at 7:30pm. Started last season. I had thought it was mandated by Hockey East, but I see some 7pm games as well.

For BU it is a great decision to start at 7:30pm on Fridays. Cuts down on late arrivals due to traffic, leaving work late, etc.

Re: BU 2013-2014: Ready to Quinn

Is it Tuesday and there isn't even a game thread for this game? Not sure if either fanbase has a great read on their teams yet. BU seems to be in wait and see mode with Quinn and playing so/so hockey. BC is a so/so road team and can't get Pirate Jerry to see how bad Linell is at defense with his one good eye.

Anyway, I'm going to miss this one as I'll be on vacation. Two years ago this same weekend, BC got Nicastro'd by BU in a 5-0 astrogliding at Conte that I also mercifully missed.

With BU we seem to be accepting that the team is a work in progress and have pretty high hopes that they will continue to come together. However they don't yet have any star players emerging game after game (although O'Regan showed some signs on Fri). Its more of a collection of hard working people grinding it out. Nothing wrong with that mind you, but also not inspiring anybody to really look forward to the next game.

Re: BU 2013-2014: Ready to Quinn

we need someone to incite something to get the ball rolling. I'm pretty bored at work and with BU-BC on Friday I was expecting to get entertained . Maybe SteveF and MPeriera will start it up..................where is SteveF anyway?

An understandable point of view for sure. That said, there is always a noticeable difference in traffic on the Pike/Storrow Drive, the Green line, and on Comm Ave in general in the 6:00-6:45 timeslot and the 6:45-7:30 timeslot.

Re: BU 2013-2014: Ready to Quinn

I like it because it gives DavidB, Gentry, and BU2K more time to get loaded before games. Those guys are far more amusing drunk than sober. ;)

Probably helping Jerry cover up another felony :D

Re: BU 2013-2014: Ready to Quinn

Some people may want to "see a good game" or will be satisfied if the "boys hang in there for a few periods". I say go for the jugular. I want to see a solid win as proof that the team continues to improve. We're not going to get punked on our own ice dammit! (NU fans, did I do that right? ;))

Re: BU 2013-2014: Ready to Quinn

Both BU and BC have 4 wins, 2 against ranked teams and 2 against hockey east opponents. Both have had difficult schedules so far and neither team came away from their trip to the Midwest with a win. Both teams embarrassed Wisconsin. Both currently have a goalie rotation going and lots of freshman getting significant ice time. BC has the edge on offense while BU's defense has been the better of the two. And in a very strange turn from recent seasons, BU has been more productive on the powerplay than BC and is also taking fewer penalties.

Haven't seen any highlights or anything from BC this year so I have no idea what they look like right now, but I think everyone seems to agree they're supposed to be better than BU (in the long run at least). BU has got to come out stronger than they have been in the first (especially against BC who comes out strong every game) and have to finish strong. BU has outscored opponents 13-3 in the second period, but has almost handed the opponent the game in the first period twice (2 goals in the first 5 minutes vs RPI and 3 goals in just over 7 minutes in the middle of the first against PC). Hopefully the refs decide to let them play the game and stop calling icing against BU when they're on the PK (seriously this happens every year).

Re: BU 2013-2014: Ready to Quinn

BC extended Jerry York's contract through 2019-20. So that is six more years for a 68-year old guy who has had to overcome serious health problems.
Jack Parker must have fallen off of his sailboat when he saw that.

Does anyone actually think York will make it to the end of that contract?
I'm sure he wants to coach a few more years, but I'd bet that it was done because of the question on any potential recruit's mind: how much longer will Jerry be there?
The extension would normally put an end to any speculation. Except it may not be real.
Parker's contract originally ran through 2014-15, and he retired two years before it ran out.

Without knowing York personally, I have to think getting one more national championship which would maybe give him the record for a coach(?) must be on his mind. If he's the all time winningest coach and has the most titles he's automatically the greatest college hockey coach ever. Maybe once he wins another one he goes out on top?

As long as he gets 44 more losses so he has the most losses all-time

York would need three more to have the all-time record for NCAA titles.
Michigan's Vic Heyliger won six titles; Denver's Murray Armstrong won five.

Yeah but statistics can be interpreted in different ways. Obviously, if he coaches that long, that will happen but it's also true he can have over a 1,000 wins too because of that. That's not really a big deal to him or fans, but winning another NCAA or 2 will solidify his standing even more. When he came in, he took over a floundering program after Cedorchuk and the Milbury fiasco and many of the losses were in the early years when he returned to his alma mater.

Have they resolved the beer lines ? I wasn't even that far back in line last year but it took forever for the venders to make transactions, look at ID, etc. In fact, it took the whole intermission just about before I can get back to my seat to watch the game.
