Re: BU 2013-2014: Ready to Quinn

Can anyone comment on who made/is making the trip to Michigan? Is Tommy Kelley able to play or is he out?

Kelley is back with the first line. Same lineup as the Wisconsin game, including OC in goal.

Re: BU 2013-2014: Ready to Quinn

1-0 BU after 1. OC keeping them in it. BU on PK big % of the 1st, including a rediculous Too Many Men minor with 5 seconds left in a PP and BU holding the puck behind its own net making a change when the penalty happened. Couldn't tell if it was a terrible call or a terrible change, as I was watching the puck....

Re: BU 2013-2014: Ready to Quinn

Big ups for the BU crowd in Yost tonight. Class fans, great cheers. The game was really good, especially the third period. ;)

Re: BU 2013-2014: Ready to Quinn

Barring the result, it was great to watch a good game in such a great environment. Michigan fans were great hosts, and it is a terrific barn.

Re: BU 2013-2014: Ready to Quinn

Turns out there was a link to watch the game. It's available to watch now as well.

Link to highlights is on the BU site and the blog

Listened to Bernie and Tom last night and when I saw this I went to watch this morning. The video cut off after the first Michigan goal (beginning of 3rd period). Did anybody else experience this? Disappointing, since I wanted to see the questionable call on the penalty shot and, obviously, the rest of the game.

The highlights on mgoblue.com have a clip of the penalty shot call. I've certainly seen worse offenses not get called but it is what it is, they likely would've scored on a 2 minute PK anyway.

Am I remembering correctly that BU received a Penalty Shot attempt already this year? Or am I thinking of Bruins? Regardless, whoever it was, it was a very similar call - stick in the hands, the player didn't go down at all. Perhaps there is a focus on calling more of them this year.

Re: BU 2013-2014: Ready to Quinn

Thanks for sharing the link. As for the call...wow...

I have no problem with that call. He is in alone behind the defense and there was a concerted effort to use the blade of the stick on the hands of the Michigan player and even pulls back hard in an obvious hooking motion. Denied him of a scoring chance. Seemed to contain all of the elements to make that call and they were right there in the clear to see.

Re: BU 2013-2014: Ready to Quinn

where is everybody?

Quinn had harsh words for his team after the game.

“We’re playing youth hockey out there too often – it’s frustrating,” said Quinn.

Quinn said he wasn’t disappointed in the effort he saw from the Terriers in the loss against Michigan, “but tonight was just a totally different story. Tonight was really the first night I can say we weren’t ready to play.”

Jack taught him well ;)

Re: BU 2013-2014: Ready to Quinn

I was hoping for a split, but I'm not too concerned. This is a team with not very high expectations, and half of their forwards are freshmen. It's going to take some time. I know MSU is down but I see that Lowell also beat Michigan, which puts my opinion of MSU a little higher than it was going in.

Re: BU 2013-2014: Ready to Quinn

Now BU is facing a PC program which will be ranked in the top 7 in the polls....should be an interesting weekend to say the least!

Well, it did seem that last night they really did play terrible hockey. I didn't see either game on video, but from the announcers and live blog, it seemed the level of play was better on Friday, we were just matched up against a top-level team on their home ice. Whereas last night, it seemed that they were making boneheaded mistakes and just playing bad hockey. At one point Bernie and Tom said it looked like they were watching a game between Newton North and South. Compared to Friday where the comments portrayed more of a young team trying hard but having their hands full with a better and more veteran squad on the road. Last night's loss is far more concerning than Friday's.

Re: BU 2013-2014: Ready to Quinn

I like Quinn calling out the players. Bringing some accountability to the program should be job #1. I can't tell you how many times BU put up a no-effort stinker and Parker was out in the papers talking about how he liked the team's effort and they just got some bad breaks.

No shame in losing to Michigan but MSU inexcusable.

BU Hockey: Callin' it like we see 'em.

Not sure if it was you or not... but when JP called out players plenty of people on here said it was an idication that he could not relate to them and didn't know how to motivate them (or something to that effect).

FWIW.... I liked Quinn calling them out on it too.

Wasn't me. I thought Parker was too haphazzard in how he approached this. One game he'd praise the effort of the team when it was clear they all showed up hung over, and then another time he'd say he didn't know why they kept taking stupid penalties. His post game comments were making less and less sense as he got older, to the point where sometimes I wondered if he was remembering the right game.

PS: Just to be clear. Parker was a great coach over his career. It just should have voluntarily ended sooner than it did.
