Re: BU 2013-2014 (Part III): Close your eyes, we're coming up on the end here...

is this a trick question, the same thing that happens every year?

Didn't think I'd have to spell this out, but by design the 3rd goalie is typically a walk-on or not commanding much in terms of a scholarship. By all accounts, this new goalie BU got was highly regarded...as were/are Maguire and O'Connor.

ok so what happens in 15-16 when presumably all three goalies are in play?

Just conjecture, but I'd be surprised if O'Connor returns for '15-'16. He'll be 23 next spring, will have played three seasons of Junior A in Canada, two USHL seasons and three at BU, and should be ready to take the next step. Another invitation to a pro development camp (he's w/ Rangers this week) is a good sign for OC . So, in that scenario, it would be Maguire, LaCouvee and a walk-on in '15-'16.

Just saw on Twitter that the LA Kings signed David Van Der Gulik. I didn't know he was still playing.

Saw some unconfirmed reports on Twitter that Maguire will apply for a medical redshirt, so perhaps it's an injury. That said, as there is the possibility OC doesn't come back in 15-16, it wouldn't shock me if Maguire doesn't return either. No basis for that feeling, just a gut.

I have chronies?
I do feel bad for the kid, I'm glad BU had this conversation with Starrett as soon as the goalie calendar was altered by whatever is going on with Maguire so that he has 15 months to find a new fit. If they waited until he was already on the team and then cut him forcing him to sit out a year to transfer I'd be quite upset, yes.

FWIW 2 of the 3 stories Jeff Cox broke yesterday have been disputed (Starrett and Wood) so we'll see where they go, and this also calls into question the Maguire story a bit.

According to a source very close to the team, Maguire will take a medical redshirt this season. SBNation also has reported that BU is adding five recruits to the six previously announced; however only four--LaCouvee, Greer, Fortunato and Olsson--are definite for next season and are on campus.

I'll take it like a man and admit that sources weren't perfect, but I've been told by Liam Coughlin's junior coach that he is going to be at BU this fall so that makes 12 now.

Do what I do. Instead of trying to work your way into the men's locker room shower like some people do for a "scoop", just wait until the little bahstids show up and start playing, and then see who's good. A novel concept I'm sure, but after being told John Sabo was a blue chippah that we stole from BC and Jason Lawrence was Hobey material, you'll have to forgive me if I don't get as excited about the potential of all these recruits.

I won't believe any of them are coming until I see them on the ice. :)
