Re: BU 2013-2014 (Part III): Close your eyes, we're coming up on the end here...

I heard a brief interview with Bonino on the NHL Network on XM. He is getting married a week from tomorrow. When asked if the trade meant that the wedding colors would need to be changed, he commented that he will have to replace his orange suit. He sounded a little bummed, but said the right things about a new opportunity and a great city.
Bonino will be marrying another former Terrier hockey player, Lauren Cherewyk.

Letunov 2nd
Macleod 2nd
Hickey 3rd
Piccinich 4th
Coughlin 5th

No Phelps or Carpenter. Coughlin wasn't ranked by anything I've read.

Carpenter: 5'10"
Phelps: 6'0"
Coughlin: 6'4"

You can't teach size :D:D

Coughlin was good sized last year, too, but went undrafted because of doubts about his ability to play the complete game against better competition. Perhaps Carpenter and Phelps have to prove themselves in the same manner?

Piccinich is just 5-11 and he was selected at 105 overall, well ahead of what his Central Scouting ranking (#135 among N. Americans) suggested. On a relatively weak Youngstown team, he was the league's top power play goal scorer, but what most likely accounts for his 4th round selection is what his USHL coach had to say:

"A big part of it [his success] is he goes out and he's willing to get to the areas where you might have to take a stick, you might have to take a punch in the face, you might have to take a body, but if you get to that area, you're more likely to score a goal."

Gotta hope that attitude continues at BU and rubs off on other forwards.

Carpenter did fairly well [5-4-9 in nine games] in his stint with Sioux City after his high school season ended. He'll play a full USHL season with the Musketeers in 2014-15 and how well he performs should dictate whether he's drafted next June.

According to the Vernon daily's sports editor, Coughlin got off to slow start in the BCHL, but once "coached up" he became a top six forward and NHL scouts started paying attention. Coughlin won't be at BU this season, but is expected to arrive for 2015-16, along with Letunov, MacTavish and Greenway. More on the blog.

Did his status recently change? I see him listed as a '14 in a few sites and he's already 20.

Five, count them, five Terriers make the HE All-Academic team (or whatever it is called). Most in 20 years. I don't want to say that the coach had much to do with it, but it is a welcome development, after way too many lean years.

Congratulations to them

Quinn also mentioned at the banquet that the team had their highest cumulative GPA in over 10 years.

Yes, it was a recent change, so I'd imagine the recruiting sites will catch up with that change. 2014 class, which began workouts with S&C coach Morando yesterday, will have five forwards--Eichel, Piccinich, Phelps, Greer and Olsson--for a total of 16.

Matt O'Connor, who attended Blackhawks development camp last summer, is at the Rangers development camp this week along with Kevin Duane.

Agreed. I think its safe to say recruiting has changed significantly vs the way things had been done for the previous 20 years and that wouldn't have happened without the changes that have taken place with the program.

Not just recruiting, but the current staff holding the team to higher levels of accountability in the classroom.

BU Hockey: 3.0 GPA; 2.0 GAA

Alex Chiasson traded to Ottawa in multi-player deal that sends Jason Spezza to Dallas. Chiasson joins his former BU teammate, Eric Gryba, who recently re-upped with the Senators.

Good OTB article on Greer, who accelerated his education at KUA and was accepted at BU a week or two ago. It was published after he decommitted from Penn State and about a week before he gave Quinn his verbal. Very committed to his education. 23-34-57 in 31 games last year for KUA, where he was co-captain as a junior.

SBNation's Jeff Cox tweeted:
As rumored, goaltender Sean Maguire will be sitting out entire '14-15 season at BU. Reason for LaCouvee coming in. Pittsburgh Penguins pick.

Re: BU 2013-2014 (Part III): Close your eyes, we're coming up on the end here...

ok so what happens in 15-16 when presumably all three goalies are in play?

is this a trick question, the same thing that happens every year?

Still no mention of why Maguire will sit out? As a drafted player, one would think the Penguins would want to have some conversation with Sean and/or Quinn about what a year not playing in games will do for his development...

Listen when those rigorous classes in Medieval Lit come along, you don't ask questions. You just put everything else on hold.
