Re: BU 2013-14 (Part II): Crash before the Phoenix
3 years tops they will be top 3 program again
Hockey Dad, I am fairly sure we know each other and I have enjoyed your posts, knowledge and thoughtful insight over the years, which are clearly based on your proximity to the game. However, there is no way I agree with you here, BU will be good, but they will never overtake BC with their dominance of the 70's 80' and early 90's. Just look at the BC dominance since the arrival of Jerry York, over the last 15 years, BC has how many final fours ? (6) ?, and 4 national championships. He is the difference, just look at his records in hockey back waters like Bowling Green, where he had the program at the top of the nation in a few short years, it's unreal !His BC run is unsurpassed except for perhaps the Herb Brooks teams of Minnesota and Olympics during his tenure.
Those days are long over and BC will not be dethroned as long a Jerry York is alive, and with a contract extension thru 2020, look for him to be the Red Berenson and Joe Paterno of college hockey and if he wants it he will be coaching as long as he wants to and that could be until he is in his 80's.
You know as well as I do that no great local talent is likely to pick BU over NU anymore and those very top Canadian prospects from the nearly 100% Catholic providences like Quebec and the Maritimes their parents would likely push for BC. Not to mention if you do graduate the BC degree especially in the Northeast has more "old boy" value. I have both NU and BU degrees and you can't argue that for the 60% of the kids on either squad who will never set foot on the NFL ice, that factors into your decision. I mean don't get me wrong, I hate BC, but York is a genius, drafting top smaller players, Gerbe, Johnny Hockey, etc, etc, guys who regardless of their point totals, skills and ability are unlikely to get an early NHL red carpet roll out because of the size factor and stick around for the duration of their college eligibility. That's planned !
