Re: BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!
As disgusting of a display of BU Hockey as that game was, it was arguably the second biggest win in their school's history. I would be elated myself instead of the embarrasment I felt as a BU fan last night.
Last night's game was an embarrassment for BU.
I would give Holy Cross credit for coming prepared to play hard, and to play smart - neither of which BU did.
If BU had done either of those things, that Holy Cross did, it would have been about 8-2 in favor of the MUCH more talented team.
BU was unprepared.
BU took Holy Cross lightly.
The concentration level was as low as their opinions of themselves, and their own abilities is high.
Is there one player on the Holy Cross roster that BU would have recruited? ONE? No.
How many players from Holy Cross could have made the BU roster, as non-scholarship walk-ons? Probably very few.
We have seen a BU team that come prepared and motivitated to play against UNH and Denver. We could say the same for Millan.
They were unprepared, from the start, to match the intensity and effort at PC and against Holy Cross.
It is a good team/bad team situation. The more respect they give the opposition, the better they play.
Jack Parker can hammer them after the game, like last night. But what is he and his staff doing before the games, and during the games, to get them going? Especially against the so-called "lesser opponents."
Last night was a game that called out for Rollheiser. If not at the start, then certainly after the first period.
Parker believes that the sun rises and falls around Millan. I too believe that he is the better goalie. When motivitated and his concentration level is high, Millan is one of the best goalies in college hockey. But that is not the case every night.
He needs someone pushing him. Rollheiser is good enough to do that.
If Millan is allowed to become complacent, which it appears that he is, then he won't be at his best, particularly against the lesser lights.
Parker needs to play Rollheiser at least occassionally, if for no other reason than to keep Millan sharp.
This BU team has the potential to be very good. We saw that against UNH and Denver. But it is not a good team if it can't get up to play against the PCs and the Holy Crosses of the world.
Since the Holy Cross game was the only one of the weekend, Parker likely didn't want Millan going almost two weeks between games. So I can can understand him going with his proclaimed No. 1 netminder.
But this was their only game of the weekend. At home. In front of a near sellout crowd. Against an opponent that could only beat AIC by one goal. AIC? Ever hear of them?
And that was the best that they could give?
Shame on BU.
