BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

Technical difficulties. New site, and we are just figuring some stuff out. Hopefully it will be fixed soon...

Thanks! Is there going to be a way to download the whole broadcast in one file? It makes it easier to listen at work.

In other news:

Matt Dalton was sent from Providence (AHL) down to Reading of the ECHL. Dalton gave up four goals on 16 shots in his only appearence with the P-Bruins.

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

BSU has another verbal over on the recruits website!

Matt Prapavessis, D, Lincoln Stars from Oakville, ONT. He is 6'1" and 195#. He as 1G-2A-3 Pts with 6 PIM and a +3 rating in four games this year.

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

Duluth coming to town this weekend with 6 games under their belt (5-0-1, 2-0-0). Looks like they are averaging 5 goals for per game and 2.3 goals against per game.

Thoughts on the upcoming series? I wish last week wouldn't have been a bye for the Beavers, but that is the schedule they have been handed.

Hopefully the SHREC can get rocking like the Glas used to!

Funny as that is, the H isn't in there, and RE don't cary over from BREC - it's simply SC if you're looking for an acronym (or maybe steal UMD and OSU's small t and call it tSC, seeing how every time I've seen it noted, it's The Sanford Center).

Also, I think that the term BREC will stick in popular vernacular for some time. While the Sanford deal is fantastic, naming rights would have been more valuable if sold eariler, seeing how engrained that term is in this town...

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

Letter from Rick Goeb the athletic director to the students, the best part of it is that the band will be moved so there is more room for students.

October 25, 2010

Dear Bemidji State University students and Beaver Dam Fans:

Thank you for making the opening hockey weekend in the Bemidji Regional Events Center memorable and successful. The student section was full of excitement and I really enjoyed watching the students demonstrate school spirit.

As we approach another great weekend of hockey against the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs, I need to remind you that the Beaver Dam Fans signed a contract of behavior expectations. This upcoming weekend, students who violate our behavior policy by using profanity in their cheers against the opposing team, disrespect other fans with inappropriate behavior or are legally drunk may be escorted out of the hockey game and may lose the privilege of attending future BSU hockey games.

I have personally witnessed great behavior from our students at Bemidji State University and look forward to that continuing all year long. Please respect all of our fans at the hockey games and practice excellent sportsmanship toward visiting fans and the visiting teams.

On another note, the Red Line Swingers Band will be moving to the upper corner student section providing more space for the Beaver Dam Fans to sit right behind the goal. This move will also allow the music to be better heard around the whole hockey arena.

Thank you and continue to cheer loudly for your Beaver Hockey Team.

Go Beavers.

Sincerely,

Rick Goeb, Ph.D.
Director of Athletics

Moose, will College Hockey Tonight be posted online in normal weeks about the same time it is broadcast in Bemidji for us out-of-staters?

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

Time to bump this thread up!!!

Here is a link to BSU's Third Jerseys this year, courtsey of the BSU Sports Information Department (insert pic wouldn't work for me):
http://www.bsubeavers.com/multimedia/photogallery/92/948/

I thought they were sharp and liked them, others in my group did not.

Okay, thoughts on this past weekend against UMD.

1. BSU's defense did well keeping a team that had been averaging 5 goals a game to four on the weekend. It would have been nice if that last 7.9 seconds on Friday night would have moved a little faster though...... Bakala and Dugas should make for a very good goaltending tandem this year.

2. Offensively, the Beavers generated plenty of opportunities to blow UMD out of the building. How many times did BSU blow an odd man rush, fan on a shot at an open net or miss the open net completely? Ugh, that is the stat I would like to see (or maybe not).

3. The atmosphere at the Sanford Center seemed a lot better than it did against UND two weeks ago. Hopefully the "newness" of the arena and the WCHA is wearing off and people are finally getting into the hockey. As runningwiththedogs has posted, the students need a leader or two to get the cheers/jeers going. There was some effort at a couple of cheers (Lets Play Beaver Hockey and Lets GO Beavers) this past weekend, but more variety is needed. The Redline Swingers of the D-II and D-III days did an awesome job at doing these tasks. It seems like the teams that have loud crowd support, it comes from the students, has some variety and there is someone in charge getting it going.

This weekend the Beavers play at SCSU, a team that looks to be a Jekyl and Hyde type. Losing to Clarkson, Minnesota, Miami and Quinnipiac, but beating RIT, Minnesota and Quinnipiac, hmmmm, just not sure what to think.

Beaver fans making the trip down, the football team also plays SCSU on Saturday afternoon. A BSU win would throw a nice wrench into the SCSU playoff hopes and move BSU up in the NSIC standings and a shot at the Mineral Water Bowl berth (I think we can all agree that a playoff spot is out with the three losses and a win against Minot State that doesn't figure into the criteria). Friday night hockey, Saturday football and Saturday night hockey, a fun time for all!

I'm not a fan of the new third jerseys. I like the previous ones better (on right).

BSU played pretty good hockey - they had chances to win both nights but couldn't capitalize on opportunities - how about the crossbar to start off with Saturday night!?? I thought officiating was "interesting" with some bad calls both ways and some no-calls, too.

Atmosphere was much improved this weekend, for sure. Lots of empty seats Saturday night. I understand there was H.S. football and Halloween, but still . . . What happens when AA and CC come to town? BSU will need to figure out something. I heard concession sales are doing well.

I'm most likely head down to St Cloud with a crew Saturday morning for football and hockey. Should be fun - looks like a decent forecast so far, too. I think we're going through Jake at Beaver Pride. Hopefully they'll have gatherings set up before both events(?).

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

Yeah, attendence ~500 below capacity on Friday and ~800 below capacity on Saturday was kind of concerning. Can anyone fill me in, is that tickets sold or butts in the seats? If it is tickets sold, I would be concerned, if it is butts in the seats, than it isn't quite as bad as they are still getting their money on the paid seats that aren't figured into the numbers.

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

Minot football game counts this year since they are in the D-2 transition process...but 3 losses is probably too many anyway for the playoffs. The Mineral Water Bowl is still a possibility, though.

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

Also, a couple of more questions for people that may be "in the know"?

Is it possible to do the starting lineups with a "dark house"? I think it would be all that much better with spotlights and the other parts of the light show being used.

And does anyone else think the arena feels overly warm? I wear my hockey jersey and end up almost sweating all night. That warm can't be good for the ice and even a 5 degree downgrade would not be unbearable.

Thanks Schultzie, I stand corrected.

Yeah, they could easily turn down the thermostat. Maybe the "warm" outside weather is keeping it warmer inside?

Oh yeah - close circuit to whomever is choosing a hit clip for the chiropractor "hit of the game" - select a clip with a hit!
