Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

I ran across Phantoms p-b-p announcer Bob Rotruck online...and asked him about Matt Read...here's what he had to say:

"Matt Read is absolutely tearing it up and looks very good for making the jump from NCAA to AHL. Had a 3 game goal streak snapped last night..."only" had 3 assists in that game to make up for it. He is paired with Denis Hamel who has 300+ AHL goals. The two of them look like they've been playing together for years. Some people are beginning to wonder if we are even going to get Read back next year (i.e. is he going to push for a spot with Philly in camp in Sept?)"

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

Matt Read is +13 at the end of the AHL season for his team. They have a jersey auction on ebay until Tuesday for his AHL #10. Its on the Phantoms website. They aren't expecting him to be in the AHL very long it sounds like.

Good for Matt. He's a classy kid. Very humble and well spoken.

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

Haven't seen this yet, but former Beaver Andrew Martens was called up to Lake Erie (AHL) from Wichita (CHL) after Wichita was eliminated from the CHL Playoffs. He played in the final regular season game for the Monsters and is on their playoff roster.

Also, I saw on a Phantoms Blog that Matt Read may be part of the "Black Aces", a group of minor leaguers in the Philadelphia Flyers system that go to Philadelphia to be part of the playoff "practice squad" once their minor league season is over. Should be good exposure and experience for Matt.

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

Future Beaver Sean Rudy and the Wellington Dukes won the OJHL Championship last night with a 4-2 victory. They will now go onto the Dudley-Hewitt Cup, 4/19-4/23, to determine the Ontario Junior Champions that will advance onto the Royal Bank Cup (Canadian Junior Championship).

Also, Matt Read's Game Worn Phantoms' Jersey went for $510 in the E-Bay auction. No autograph included.

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

Some former Beaver Updates here.

Ryan Huddy and Las Vegas were eliminated from the ECHL playoffs on Monday night. Ryan did have an assist in that game.

Matt Read has been called to Philadelphia to help with playoff prep for the Flyers. He is not eligible for the post season as his contract does not start until next year.

Matt Climie has been called to Phoenix to help with playoff prep for the Coyotes. I would venture to guess he would be eligible for the playoffs, but at this time is just a practice player.

Park Rapids native and former Beaver Tyler Lehrke finished a solid season with Rio Grande Valley of the CHL (from the Park Rapids Enterprise).

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

Just received an e-mail that Matt Francis got a call up to the Worcester Sharks of the AHL at the end of the season. Matt played in two games, but tallied no points.

Congrats Matt. Hopefully it will pay off in a look at the "A" next season.

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

Tyler Scofield and Kiagenfurt lost the EBEL (Austia) Championship 4 games to 3. Tyler ended the playoffs with 13 GP, 9G-11A-20 Pts., 2 PIM

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

Future Beavers Update:

Corey Petrash and the Winnipeg Thrashers skated to a 2-2 tie yesterday at the Telus Cup. Corey is now 3 GP, 1G-1A-2 Pts., 2 PIM. The Thrashers are now 1-1-1 in the round robin round and sit in 5th place out of 6 (or a three way tie for third, but slide to fifth on Goal Differential). They have two more games left in this round.

Sean Rudy and thed Wellington Dukes sit 2-0-0 in their round robin play at the Dudley-Hewitt Cup and sit first out of four teams. Sean sits at 2 GP, 2G-2A-4 pts., 0 PIM. They have one more round robin game left and should be a lock for the championship round (I believe number 1 gets automatically put in the Championship while 2 and 3 playoff for the other berth).

Tyler Tosunian and the Pembroke Lumberkings opened the Fred Page Cup with an 11-3 victory. Tyler had one goal in the contest. Pembroke has two more games left in round robin play.

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

As of noon on 04/25/11, the list of active players is getting shorter. We only have two recruits still playing this year and four former Beavers still involved in playoffs.

Corey Petrash and the Winnipeg Thrashers won the Telus Cup (Canadian AAA National Championship). The Thrashers finished third out of six in round robin play to make the semifinals. After an OT victory in the Semifinals, the Thrashers took the Cup with a 3-1 victory.

Sean Rudy and Tyler Tosunian will both be taking part in the Royal Bank Cup, the Canadian Junior Championship. Rudy and the Wellington Dukes won the Dudley Hewitt Cup while Tosunian and the Pembroke Lumberkings won the Fred Page Cup. The Royal Bank Cup will be 04/30/11-05/08/11 in Camrose, Alberta.

Riley Weselowski, Ryan Adams and Dan MacIntyre and the Rapid City Rush have moved onto the Turner Conference Finals as Rapid City tries to defend their 2010 CHL Title.

Chris McKelvie and the Greenville Road Warriors are still alive in the ECHL playoffs, but trail Wheeling 3-2 in the best of seven conference semifinals. Greenville and Wheeling will meet tomorrow (04/26/11) for game six.

For those of you interested in keeping tabs on Tyler Tosunian and Pembroke, or Sean Rudy and Wellington, or both, in the Royal Bank Cup, here is the website. Pembroke (CJHL) is the East Rep, while Wellington (OJHL) is the Central Rep. The Camrose Kodiaks (AJHL) are the hosts, Portage Terriers (MJHL) is the West Rep and the Vernon Vipers (BCHL) are the Pacific Rep.
