BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

Millsy & Moose-

Any word on Andrew Murray's status w/the Blue Jackets for next season? I thought I heard his current contract was ending this past 2010-11 season & I hope he stays with the NHL team. Thanks!

I have not heard anything. I did read today that former BlueJacket coach Ken Hitchcock is a candidate for the open Wild position. He was a huge supporter of Andrew's benefit to the BlueJackets, so if the stars align correctly, we could see him in Minnesota. The new coach with Columbus, I am not too sure. It is kind of hard to tell how many games last year Andrew was a coach's decision to scratch or he was scratched due to injuries. Andrew did battle the injury bug last year.

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

As of noon on 05/03/11, the list of active players is getting shorter. We only have two recruits still playing this year in the Canadian Junior Championships (Royal Bank Cup) and three former Beavers still involved in playoffs for the CHL's Rapid City Rush and the Turner Conference Finals.

Sean Rudy and the Wellington Dukes are 0-2 in Round Robin Play at the Royal Bank Cup for fifth place. Rudy was named Player of the Game for Wellington in their first game of the tournament. Wellington did lose to Pembroke and Tyler Tosunian 5-2. The Royal Bank Cup runs through 05/08/11.

Tyler Tosunian and the Pembroke Lumber Kings are 1-1 in Round Robin Play at the Royal Bank Cup, which is good for a tie for second out of five teams. Tyler has been held off the scoreboard thus far. The Royal Bank Cup runs through 05/08/11.

Riley Weselowski, Ryan Adams and Dan MacIntyre and the Rapid City Rush have moved onto the Turner Conference Finals as Rapid City tries to defend their 2010 CHL Title. Rapid City and Colorado are tied at 1 in their best of seven series.

Chris McKelvie and the Greenville Road Warriors fell in seven games to the Wheeling Nailers in the ECHL playoffs.

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

Royal Bank Cup Update:

Tyler Tosunian and the Pembroke Lumber Kings finished in third place after round robin play at the Royal Bank Cup. Tyler is sitting at 4 GP, 0G-0A-0 Pts., with 4 PIM. Pembroke went 1-3 with 11 GF and 14 GA (-3). They will play the hosts, Camrose, in the semifinals on Saturday.

Sean Rudy and the Wellington Dukes finished in fourth place after round robin play at the Royal Bank Cup. Sean is sitting with 4 GP, 0G-6A-6 Pts., and 4 PIM. He was named the Dukes Player of the Game in game one. The Dukes went 1-3 with 12 GF and 16 GA (-4). They slipped past Portage, who was also 1-3, but had a -5 goal differential and was the odd one out. Wellington will take on defending champ Vernon in the Semifinals on Saturday.

The final is on Sunday.

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

Rapid City has force game 7 with a 3-2 win over Colorado in the CHL Turner Conference Playoffs. The winner on Wednesday will move onto the President's Cup.

Former Beaver Dan MacIntyre got in his first playoff game and was issued a penalty before even seeing any game action. From the Rapid City Journal:

"The double minor, called when Scott Wray’s high stick bloodied Colorado’s Joe Grimaldi, turned into a 5-on-3 after Rush amateur Dan MacIntyre took the ice for a quick warm-up at the end of the second period. MacIntyre, who rejoined the Rush at the end of the second after attending a wedding in Winnipeg, Manitoba, was called for delay of game."

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

In looking at the box score, Dan MacIntyre made up for it with the lone assist on the game winning goal.

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

Well, the season is now complete for all future and former Beaver Hockey Players. Riley Weselowski, Ryan Adams and Dan MacIntyre and the Rapid City Rush fell to Colorado 1-0 in the CHL's Turner Conference Finals last night. Colorado scored the lone goal with 1:58 left in the game.

So, here are the final stats on everyone.

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

I guess I missed one former Beaver. Ryan Cramer signed on with the Tulsa Oilers for the CHL playoffs. Ryan played in 3 games and was 0G-0A-O pte., 0 PIM. But Tulsa won all three games he played in, and went 1-3 in games he didn't. Should have kept playing him.....

Also, it was reported in the Bemidji Pioneer by Eric Stromgren that former Beaver Ian Lowe has signed a tryout contract with Lausitzer Fuchse of the German Second League for next season. Also reported was that Emil Billberg is considering suiting up for Sodertalje SK in the Swedish League (Elitserien).

With Read, Adams and MacIntyre also seeing pro action, there is the possibility that all six 2011 seniors could play be playing pro hockey at one level or another.

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

Here is a blog report on Matt Read. They need to do a little fact checking about his awards, but otherwise, it looks like things are looking good for him in Philly next season.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/698430-matt-read-a-2011-2012-philadelphia-flyers-starter

They also might wanna check his stats. (I mean, kid is good, but 2.3 goals per game  ? For the record, he ended with 65-78-143 in 147 gp). Beavs could used someone with that kind of offense. Heck, even Brian Grand (who hit 2.6 PPG) was sub 1 GPG (42-112-154 in 59 gp)...

Bottom line? If the link says Bleacher Report - ignore it.

Thanks Moose, I didn't even catch the stats snafu. I will admit this is the first time I can recall reading anything from Bleacher Report.

Also, Eric Stromgren from the Bemidji Pioneer had an update on two BSU recruits. With the USHL Draft taking place, Ben Kinne was selected by the Lincoln Stars in the second round and Corey Petrash was selected in the fourth round by the Tri City Storm.

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

Thanks Moose! That is a good site.

According to Eric Stromgren at the Bemidji Pioneer, Emil Billberg has signed with Sodertalje SK in the Swedish Professional League. Sodertalje will compete in the second division as they did not finish high enough in the Relegation Tournament to play in the Elite division.
