Brown University Bears 2011-12

Re: Brown University Bears 2011-12

I think all Newbie has ever wanted to do is be supportive of the Brown team, no matter their coach. Given that's not okay, "fan" must be a misnomer.

Re: Brown University Bears 2011-12

Arm...I am a bigger fan now that Coach Murphy is gone. And will start throwing some $$$ towards the program to help the team out. But the reason I am so negitive towards newbie is that she comes on too the scene telling myself and others to ( shut up).leave the coach alone..bla bla bla......But what really got me last year was a statement she made in reguards too why her Daughter was at Brown. And this is not word for word but went some thing like this......She is there so she can make connection and go to New York and become a business women..... made me want to barf......So ..ya she is wants to support Brown...me to.....Is she a aerse kisser ...ya...Looks like you are from a hockey state and have been in plenty of rinks.....and you have seen your share of people like her...and you know what i mean...and dont tell me people like her do not make you sick...over and out

Re: Brown University Bears 2011-12

I know nothing about N.B., including gender, beyond a daughter at Brown. In a general sense, I support anyone's right: to create a positive thread as a counterpoint to three negative ones and ask that the spirit of that thread be respected; and to attend a university for reasons beyond playing a varsity sport. My hope is that all Brown fans would now unite beyond the team, because regardless of how they feel the past coaching situation should have been handled, that chapter is over and the new regime will have plenty of work ahead. However, as an outsider that's not for me to decide, so I'll bow out and let each of you decide your own priorities.

Re: Brown University Bears 2011-12

Agree in respect that Brown has new leadership and must move on. And i hope deep down that in a year or two Brown will be a team that others just don't count as a win each and ever year. However, when and if NB starts with her BS, I will be there reminding her that she should just stay in the shadows and kept her trap quiet.....

C'mon, enough already! N.B. wasn't the first - and won't be the last - person to say, "Congrats" to someone who may never read the post. So what if they do or don't read it?

Please take it to the Pi**ing Match thread if you really feel the need to respond.

Anyway... how about getting back on topic? What can we expect from Brown this year? It's going to take some time for Coach Bourbeau to re-build the Brown program. It took Coach Derraugh a good 5 years to do it at Cornell and I think it's fair to say that it would be a challenge for any other new coach to replicate his results.

Does anyone want to take a crack at an early prediction based on the schedule for this season? Brown went 2-23-4 last season.

I'll go on record with a very uneducated guess of 6-23-2.

Hello Hux. Seen you from afar at the Chowder Cup.....However only seen your head........You must have had 300 hamburges in front of you and they kept us from seeing what the rest of u looked like....was that shirt you wearing "mustard yellow" in color, or just the mustard that leaked from the burgers. Like i said to you before...You must has at least 3 heads, because no one human being could know as much as you do with just one head....Its not like I am calling you a no-it-all or anything...lol

Isn't there a saying...something like three heads are better than none? Something like that anyway...:)

I'm thinking, after reading a few of your posts, that you should employ whatever number of heads you have to spelling and/or language competency. Also - we didn't have burgers at Chowder - we had chicken kabobs:)

14 years as an Assistant coach???..........Hummm, that's a loooooooooooooooong time not to get a head coaching job somewhere. Hope for the best, but it has to make you wonder. Most long time assistants are that for a good reason [i.e. they don't have what it takes to lead]. We shall see.

That's a pretty uninformed statement, to say the least.

Re: Brown University Bears 2011-12

weely? hows that? Do a little homework shmeggeggie. You will discover that most long term assistant coaches are assistant coaches for a reason. As I said, we shall see....but my advice would be to rent, not buy.

Really? You don't think assistant coaches need to have leadership qualities? You understand that assistant coaches are often involved in running practices...coaching forwards, defense, or goaltenders, running special teams, and so forth, right? No leadership required? Ok. Besides, you're only just now getting to a point where you can have "long time" assistant coaches who have been exclusively on the women's side....so let's look at those who have worked on both sides of the coin. (Or does it only count in women's hockey...or for women coaches?)

How did being a long time assistant work out for guys like McCloskey or Durocher? How about Bob Deraney who spent 10 years as an assistant coach? It took Paul Colontino 10 years to become a head coach...I suppose he doesn't possess leadership qualities...he was only one of the most highly sought after assistant coaches on the market every time he became available.

I'm sure there are plenty of other good examples in both the men's and women's game. Your statement is garbage, plain and simple. Are some assistant coaches a better fit as assistants? Sure they are, but to make blanket statement that "most" are, and that she qualifies as one of the most before she's ever coached a game is just stupid.
