Brown University Bears 2011-12

Re: Brown University Bears 2011-12

apparently you've lost your audience Einstein...must be tough being the only genius in the room.

If anyone here is a mouthbreather, it's you, Dudly Dowrong. Now, everyone is still waiting for u to speakie English and let us all in on your big secret. Of course, that assumes you actually have a clue, which is highly doubtful.

Re: Brown University Bears 2011-12

I would assume that if it's a contract issue, there's nothing WSU would be happier to do than to release him.

Agreed.

However, if the school baulked at giving him the release, then JF would have leverage for sure; as the fundamental component of a hockey coach's contract is the existence of the hockey program for the duration of his contract. Unless there is a term covering the scenario where the school pulls the rug out from under women's hockey - I like JF's chances in court.

Wow! ***BREAKING NEWS*** Digit Murphy is "retiring"! Now that's sad. Sad that it took so long to get rid of her. Hopefully now the team can rebuild and become the world class team that they should be. They've got the talent, they've got the drive! Hopefully, beginning in the Fall of 2011, they'll also have the leadership. Good Luck Girls, you've got a lot of support on this forum, for sure!!!!!

Re: Brown University Bears 2011-12

What's ever "necessary?"

The guy made a comment and expressed his opinion...and I for one agree with him. IMO it was too bad the school took the easy [p.c.] way out with some convoluted song and dance trying to sugar-coat the obvious fact that this was clearly a bad coach getting fired, not the "retirement party" they would like everyone to believe it was.

Re: Brown University Bears 2011-12

If you wanted her gone and she's now gone...and you're pleased, is this really necessary?

Yes, Brookyone, I'm very pleased. I'm just as pleased as you were everytime you reminded me how happy you were when she WAS the coach. The "retirement" part just slayed me though - definitely worthy of honorable mention. Thank you CrossCheck for bringing that to my re-attention.

You're confusing me with someone else. Never commented on Digit Murphy one way or the other. Not a topic of any interest to me other than my opinion your "sad that it took so long" comment was unnecessary.

IMO it makes no difference the method of replacing her or a possible sugar coating by the school if that's what they want appearances to be. She's out. I'm not defending Digit but don't see a need to vilify her or the school after the fact. A lot of coaches get terminated in college sports for unsuccessful results. I've never heard an AD say we're replacing coach because he / she is a horse manure coach and we're running him / her out of town on a rail. What's the issue or downside of taking the easy way out as you put it? I guess they could have hog tied her, dragged her to the center of campus and burned her at the stake...or something.

Understanding your relief and general happiness with her dismissal is easy. I don't understand why anyone would believe it should be handled in a less tactful manner...even if it took to long to happen. That would be pretty unprofessional of an athletic director IMO.

Speaking of "confusing me with someone else", I am certainly not the poster who mentioned taking the "easy way out" but don't let your facts get in the way of a good story.
As for recommending that "they could have hog tied her, dragged her to the center of campus and burned her at the stake...or something", I would've attended that event if they sent out invitations. Ahhh, but it's early yet; there's still hope.

I was responding to both you and CrossCheck at the same time. Not too difficult to figure out...I didn't think.

It wasn't a recommendation. It was hyperbole, but with your apparent position on the subject maybe you should track Digit down and confront her face to face. You seem to feel that strongly about a desire / need to vilify her even after she has been terminated. I'd hate to ever be an employee under your supervision with you having the ability to fire me. When reasonable, intelligent, level headed people charged with firing someone handle the task they actually strive to do it with tact and a minimum of fanfare and with some respect. They're generally not tarred and feathered. Something a little odd with your level of contempt and Digit focused bitterness IMO.
