Brown University Bears 2011-12

Re: Brown University Bears 2011-12

Ok Newbiebear...time to relax. The Bears are slightly improved over what they were last year...still a Bad team [but now with a mediocre coach vs a clown].

Beating S. Heart 10 zip, and beating one win Yale may make you all warm and fuzzy, but in the real world, it don't mean zip. Pipe down for a bit, at least until this team wins a meaningful game. Whoops...had a chance to do that tonight but instead spit the bit and lost 3-0. Nice.:D

Why do you have a beef with this team CC?

I take exception to calling any coach a clown. Didget may have lost contact with her players, but she still knows more about the game than you could ever hope to. As far as the new coach being mediocre we will see on that. Lets see what kind of players can be brought in and than make that judgement. This team has a lot of players that work their buts off every game and are highly skilled. Unfortunately a few weaker ones seem to cost them a goal or two per game. With a limited bench it's hard to work around them. Bad team, Not at all, challenged yes.

I don't have a "problem" with this team. But I take issue with the boobs in here who insist the team is great when anyone with a pair of eyes can see they are a bottom-dweller [present puffed-up record notwithstanding]....when they actually have to play a half decent team, they get smoked.

They've had a tough time over the past few years; maybe you should let them enjoy themselves. Every team is great when you are blessed with the opportunity to combine a great education with playing the game you love. :)

I haven't seen anyone here saying that Brown is "great" at this point. They certainly have been, and may well get there again. What these people are celebrating is the fact that there is something to celebrate.

Seems to me you're the "boob" for not letting them enjoy the process. A baby step can turn into a leap pretty quickly. See Maine Black Bears thread.

CrossCheck Trust me when I say there are those who feel that your post was 100 % dead on..What we saw for the last 8 years from Coach Murphy was clownish ...And by the way this site is full of cool aid drinking people who see no wrong the Murphy

Concur with you.

Despites CrossCheck's assertion, no one has come on here to state Brown is a great team. Some posters have come on here stating they are encouraged by the improvements seen compared to recent years. Looking at the record, they already have more points in the bank this year than the previous two years combined.

Interesting you bring up the Back Bears. The Brown Bears went up to Maine earlier this year and registered two ties.

For whatever reason, some folks just seem to want to knock the Bears everytime they hit bump in the road. As with any rebuild, there are always lots of bumps in the road. Just part of the process. The supporters of the team are best off to just ignore the naysayers, and stay the course.

My two cents.

Once again we hear [or more typically get a lecture] from OnMaa the King of the Pompous. You missed your calling as a Kindergarten teacher's assistant. An old mother hen who always thinks she knows best when truth be told, she's a clueless old goat. Face it...this team is at best mediocre and more likely, once the dust settles, will be at or near the bottom of the standings as usual.:D

For those that think I was making up the "we are great" comments...

From NewbieBear:

"Happy New Year to all Bruno Fans.

The Brown Bears started off 2012, where they left off in 2011, with a win. They came away with a 4-1 win over Ivy rival Yale at Ingalls last night, to push their record to .500 (5-5-5) taking over sole possession of the last ECAC play-off spot in the process."

If that doesn't sound like someone calling a .500 team "great" than u don't know how to read.....As Jim Mora once famously said "Playoffs??!!....Playoffs!!??....You're talking 'bout Playoffs!!???"

Okay, I read it, and I still think that you're making it up. The only occurrence of the word "great" is coming from you. Newbie is trying to be positive, something you likely have little experience doing. Do I think the Brown Bears will make the playoffs? No, but I respect their right to prove me wrong. And if your poor attempt at supporting your position kept you from kicking your dog for another five minutes, then by all means, keep posting.

Why nitpick about someone's assertions, clearly Newbie Bear is very skilled in spinning the facts -- political or advertising writing would be a job within his skillset. We all read the internet knowing that nothing is gospel. I enjoy reading fan's perspectives and would not expect or want them to write objectively or critically . That's the fun of reading how differently someone can view a game. Do you ever read opposing teams recaps of the same game -- somewhere in the middle lies the truth as the cliche says.

I think you're reading a lot more into Newbie's comments than is there. Celebrating the small steps is all I see. And small steps can be great. Really great.

I've stated this before, but in light of some recent comments, it is worth repeating for clarity.

As a parent of a Brown Player I am a supporter of the Brown Bears. Started a Brown thread last year for share positive news about the team as a meaning of encouragement and positive re-inforcement. When things went south for the team last year, others hijacked the thread for their own agenda's to run the coach out of town.

Will continue to support this team in their quest to get back to respectability. Will not get engaged in discussions about what is "wrong" with Brown, how it should be coached, or to bad mouth players, coaches or the team, everytime they lose a game or two.

Looking forward, next weekend is a BIG weekend for the Bears. Two key games in their quest to make the playoffs for the first time in years. Good luck to the Bears next weekend.

Go Bears.

Re: Brown University Bears 2011-12

Well now Newbie, just a super job against Clarkson last weekend. Certainly played like a team on the way to the playoffs! [Jim Mora is still laughing at that one].

Now we'll be hearing from OnMaa, the Canadian King of the Pompous...please give us all another lecture.

Re: Brown University Bears 2011-12

Hey Newbie, just wanted to give a shout and tell you to keep up the positive vibes. It doesn't matter what we embrace as parents, it just matters that we are there for our daughters now and in the long run. Enjoy her time at Brown - these 4 years pass quickly and then on to the real world, hopefully adding to the "makers" and not the "takers" .

Don't worry. Having post grad kids of our own, we are well aware how fast time flies by. We take every opportunity to embrace the endeavours of our children.

Will continue to support Brown irregardless of the naysayers. We just got home from a great road trip to Albany, where the Brown Bears picked up 3 valuable points this weekend, in their quest to make the playoffs.

Great weekend for the Bears. Well done ladies. Keep it up.

Go Bears.

Seems like the officials in Hanover gave the Brown Bears a little help on the quest. Colgate scored a goal (one of those weird, hardly ever happens situations when a team scores on itself while the goalie is pulled on a delayed penalty). The refs called the goal off claiming it deflected off a Dartmouth player's stick....but clearly that doesn't constitute "control" and they never blew the whistle. So, this game goes to OT when in reality, Colgate should have won in regulation. Now Colgate is sitting with 7 pts in ECAC instead of 9 and it appears Brown has the tougher remaining schedule. It will be interesting to see if these 2 pts. make a difference in the final standings.

Re: It's All Bears this weekend

Re: It's All Bears this weekend

This past weekend was my first opportunity to see the women play. I brought my family including two granddaughters and a grandson, 8, 7, and 6, and an infant granddaughter.

Two general comments from observing two games: First, I was very much impressed by the intensity of the team's play and its overall skills. The women were there to play!! I was also impressed, by reason of comparison to past years, by the coaching staff continually talking with the players after every shift. Second, the women were just great and represent Brown quite well. They treated my grandkids, who were cheering their hearts out with Brown banners/posters, quite well as they came out for each period with the fist-bumps and talking with them. I was afraid they would be interfering but they were not but I believe the players were happy to see some supporters other than their parents. As the grandkids had skated at the open session last december with several members of the team, they were aware of some names/numbers and recalled them. In fact, the encoragement they received last december from the women led them to getting into a youth hockey program recently, and they were greatly disappointed when they had to leave before the end of the RPI game to attend a session.

I promised them a weekend at Meehan, weather permitting, to cheer on the team.

Re: It's All Bears this weekend

Thanks to Mike Hutter and Dr Zuess for the positive comments.

Huge game for the Bears tonight verus travel partner Yale. The two key games for the Bears from here on out are tonight's match with Yale and the game with Colgate in a couple of weeks. Wins by the Bears in both of those games will be key in their quest to make the playoffs for the first time since 2006.
