Brown University Bears 2011-12

Re: Brown University Bears 2011-12

Newbiebrownnosebear ....Like I said before "see what a coaching change will do" Nice weekend and a good job tonite. Oh, by way I think you owe us the "hijackers" a thank you for running the coach out of town. There is no way in hell with her still there could the girls be doing so well....I asked this question before too you. Does your daughter like playing for the new or the old coach....

Re: Brown University Bears 2011-12

Great win for the Bears tonight. Star of the game was Sarah Robson, who scored a hattrick. Well done and congratulations to her. Kudo's as well to Aubree Moore, who made some fantastic saves in the early going, including stopping two shots on a two and oh breakaway, when the game was still close.

Great game by the whole team, to solidify their hold on 8th place.

Go Bears.

Congrats to freshman Sarah Robson. I am very impressed with the quality of ECAC freshman as a whole.

Solid, and I agree.

Yes, here I am again, that person who only appears when the Bears lose (which is not true; it is after the Bears lose that people dislike what I have to say about it).

2 losses this weekend, and a few blatant reasons why. Once again, the breakout is largely responsible for these losses, which in turn reflects poorly upon the coaches. I have tried but been unable to understand why the two wingers leave the zone, oftentimes presenting nothing but their behinds to the defensemen and center struggling to break the puck out. It is not as if the wings swing to open the ice up and present more options – one wing turns and skates out of the zone in a straight line while the other skates across the ice to join the other winger on their side. So since the wings appear to have been told to leave the zone on the breakout, how do the coaches expect the girls to break out? A breakout is a 5-man, even 6-man job for the team in the defensive zone, and against a team like Harvard they need all the man-support they can get.

Line changes are out of control. Players are changing on the back check, how long will it take the coaches to figure that one out? Changing on the back check is a no-no that anyone who plays hockey has learned by the age of 12.

Another thing that irks me a little bit is that many of the same girls continue to see a lot of ice even though they repeatedly make blatant mistakes – unfortunately, the true plus-minus of these girls is masked because the two Sacred-Heart games do a great job covering for them.

I’m sure many of you just read that and assume that I must have a daughter on the team who doesn’t see much ice. False.

I understand that everyone wants to hear only good things about the team, but just because we support the Bears, it doesn’t make it logical or rational to suddenly become ignorant to the aspects of the game that they are lacking in or need improvement on. I understand that, as a few of the other commentators on here have stated, my perspectives on the game are pointless because it is not as if the coaches read my comments. Well I can respond that likewise, the coaches don’t go on a USCHO fan forum to boost their self-esteem with morale-boosting comments by parents and other Brown followers. And if they do, shame on them.

Oh, and just a side note: No matter how many goals a player puts up in a single game, it doesn’t give that player the right not to pass the puck.

Well said. (I altered your post for brevity).

Re: Brown University Bears 2011-12

While it was a bit of a disappointing weekend for the Bears with losses to rivals Dartmouth and Harvard, there are still some positives to come out of this weekend.

The Bears played a great game vs. Dartmouth on Friday night. After Dartmouth took a 2-1 lead on a controversial goal (The net was off before the puck went in, but goal was not reviewed), the Bears regrouped, and were the better team in the latter part of the second and all of the third period. They had several glorious chances to tie it up, but it was not to be. Dartmouth then sealed the Bears fate with an empty netter late in the third. The Bears played some of their best hockey of the year in that third period, and deserved a better fate.

The next day, two odd man rush breakaway goals midway in the first period, about a minute apart, staked Harvard to an early 2-0 lead, and that was all they needed. Harvard is a well coached team, and if they play the way they did last Saturday, can see them have a good go at Cornell down the road. Despite the Bears loss, enjoyed watching the match with Harvard.

Brown is now tied with RPI for the last play-off spot with three weeks left in the season. As a parent from a senior player fittingly said in the stands, "Just the fact that we are having a play-off conversation this time of year is refreshing".

I'll be the first to admit, that Brown needs more work to be able to compete with the likes of Harvard and Cornell. Having said that, it is important to recognize that compared to the previous two seasons, this teams has improved tremendously, and the results speak for themselves.

Wishing the Bears good luck on their trip to the North Country this coming weekend.

Go Bears Go.

P.S....For those that continue to question my daughter or her motives. She loves it at Brown, and we as parents are proud of her. That is all you need to know.

Whether or not your daughter loves Brown was not the topic brought up. I'm pretty sure what fan007 said was "...does your daughter like playing for the new or old coach..." But you can go ahead and evade that question. We understand - a positive attitude overrides sensibility in your rule book.

Just observing. Seems to me that a positive attitude overrides the potential for mudslinging in his book.

If honesty is mudslinging then I'll have to write a note to Webster to have the definition changed in the dictionary.

You fail to understand the history around the question FAN007 was posing. He/She ripped both myself and my daughter to shreds last year, accusing us of being part of "the problem" at Brown, when all I was trying to do is to keep a positive attitude during a very trying year, both on and of the ice. My daughter was one of a few who DID NOT go to the AD complaining about the coach last year.

I am a firm believer in working within the confines of a team, and solving any issues from within, rather than on this board. As far as I'm concerned, let the coaches coach, and parents should stay out of it. Does not mean we as parents cannot have an opinion on how the team is doing, or what needs to be done to improve, but we should not be voicing those issues on this board. Our daughters probably read this, and stuff like this only leads to mixed messages. Instead as parents we should cheer on the team, encourage our daughters to work out any issues with the coaches, and give them guidance on how to do that, rather than undermining what the coaches are trying to achieve.

NEWBIEBROWNNOSEBEAR....You have to be kidding me......right....tell me your kidding. I do not remember ripping the shreds of your daughter. But you on the other hand I remember. "The problem" at Brown...what are you talking about. "The problem" was coach murphy and you refused to see it. You kept up the "rah rah rah",Pretending every thing if fine there and as you KNOW NOW that it isn't. Take a poll of the last 200 girls that played for her, and ask them if they enjoyed playing for her, i would say 95 to 96 % of hated her. What a way to end hockey, playing since you were a little girl to ending it with that bad taste of playing for her. In one line you say" I am a firm believer in working with-in the "confines" of a team. And you go on to say " My daughter was one of the FEW, meaning what, 2 or 3 other girls did'nt. where,s the team spirit there. And I am sure that u suggested " I would'nt do that if i were you, it might hurt your chances of being capt some day...If i remember correctly that was the 3 rd year in a row the girls went to the AD.. YOU STILL DO NOT GET IT

I do not deny that I do not know or very much care what fan 007 was saying on the forums last year; I do not know his history, but it does not change the fact that he is correct in his opinions on this thread concerning the change in coaching staff.

My daughter was one of a few who DID NOT go to the AD complaining about the coach last year.

I am glad that you are proud to admit that your daughter was one of the few girls who did not have a backbone but still reaps the reward of a new coach that was only made possible by the girls who stood for what they believed in.

Does not mean we as parents cannot have an opinion on how the team is doing, or what needs to be done to improve, but we should not be voicing those issues on this board. Our daughters probably read this, and stuff like this only leads to mixed messages.

These girls go to Brown University and range from the ages of 17 to 22. They are adults, and intelligent ones, not 5 year olds who become confused when one parent tells them “good job” and the other parent says “bad job.”

Look, I post my viewpoints on certain games during the season; I'm not here to personally attack any one person or person's daughter. The conversation has taken a turn in a direction that I'd prefer it didn't (as, I'm sure, you do too), and it can just as easily be redirected back towards hockey again, which is where it should stay. But you are not the USCHO forum police, and by taking that role you're asking for an argument. I have my opinions on the coaching staff and their poor systems, and you have your uppity-up ones as well - that's fine. You are allowed to disagree with any one thing I say, and I will respect that, but I don't respect somebody who, as you've seen fit to do many times in the past, feels the need to control what other people post.

Re: Brown University Bears 2011-12

Tough set of games coming up down the stretch for the Bears in their quest to make the playoffs. Other than Colgate next weekend, all other remaining games are against teams in the top end of the standings.

The Bears are in North Country as we speak, to face the Golden Knights and the Saints, hoping to steal a point or two. Meanwhile RPI will be facing Colgate in a key matchup on Saturday that will be followed closely by most Bears fans.

Here is the formal preview from the Bears website, including a lengthy video clip with Coach Bourbeau:

Good luck to the Bears this weekend.

Go Bears.

Maybe we will bring this as re-inforcement:

Re: Brown University Bears 2011-12

Great win by the injury riddled Bears today over Colgate. With the win, the Brown Bears hold on to the last playoff spot by the narrowest of margins. They are tied with RPI in points but are ahead of RPI on the tiebreaker.

With one weekend to go, the Bears need to at least stay even with RPI to earn that last spot. Colgate, two points in arrears, could still play spoiler.

Three stars of the game today were Sarah Robson, with two clutch goals, Lauren Vella with three assists, and Aubree Moore, who was stellar in nets to earn the win between the pipes. Well done to all three.

Special recognition goes out to the five seniors, Katelyn Landry, Vika Mykolenko, Jacquie Pierri, Paige Pyett and Skyelar Siwak, who played their last game at Meehan today on Senior day.

Re: Brown University Bears 2011-12

I'm rooting for Brown, given the Princeton connection to Amy Bourbeau, but RPI has the schedule advantage. Ironically, Princeton will have a great say in this--if they can beat RPI, Brown should be in good shape, as Colgate has to play the north country teams.

Re: Brown University Bears 2011-12

A HUGE congrats to The entire Brown team and staff in clinching a playoff spot! So excited for all of you, especially the seniors...

Re: Brown University Bears 2011-12

Ditto! Way Gutsy in Hanover today; near, near wrecking Green bid for home ice, leg up that comes with.

Congratulations on making the playoffs to what is looking like a Brand New Brown Bear Bruin!

Ditto Bis.! Just got home. A great day for the Brown Bears. The under staffed squad played their hearts out today, and it took everything Dartmouth had to get the winner with 22 seconds left in OT, to secure home ice next weekend.

Despite the loss, Brown played a hard and spirited game. Star of the game for the Bears was Aubree Moore. She made several big time saves during the game, and really had no chance on the game winner.

A huge congratulations to the Bears on making the Playoffs. This has been a remarkable turnaround season compared to the last two. All five seniors played today. Extra special for them to go out on a high note, the first ever time for them to make the playoffs. The last time Brown were in the playoffs was in 2006.

Good luck next week in Ithaca.

Go Bears.
