Brown @ RPI-March 15, 16 and 17th If Necessary

Re: Brown @ RPI-March 15, 16 and 17th If Necessary

A top goaltender can steal 2 games for you easily. Problem is, both these teams have a top goaltender. I don't think any other playoff series around has starting goal tenders with a lower total GAA or a higher Save percentage. This is not going to be easy for either team. Mistakes may easily make the difference (and I sure hope the officials do not).

For this reason alone, do not take this series for granted. Our Red needs to come out and really take it to Brown to take this series. We need to pay attention to our process and skate our game for the whole series. We cannot let Brown 'hang around' and we cannot let Borelli get into a comfortable groove.

And it goes without saying-we need to be ready when the puck drops. The first period, and particularly the first 10 minutes of the first period can put us in a hole that we may not get out of. When we come out and play well early, we are as tough as any team I have seen this year.

??? I heard they had practice on Saturday.

They may have had a morning skate, but I wouldn't be shocked if they didn't have a full practice and had the night off. After all, SA did say in a post-game report (either CCT or SLU, not sure which) that they have earned rest, so they will get it.

I think our guys are fired up and ready to get to work tomorrow night. Although it is a great reason I know I would have a little extra frustration added from not being able to enjoy spring break somewhere with girls in bikini's! That aside I think this team made a decision in late December early January to prove they are a top quality team in the country. Now they are in position to show every one who and what RPI hockey is made of. I hope they take the ECAC championship and make it to the big dance because I love going to other rinks, even ECAC, and hearing the other fans ask "Where/who is RPI?". This team will open a lot of eyes in the hockey world whether it be this year, next year, or the year after that RPI will be becoming well known, I think, throughout college hockey.

All I'm saying is I heard they had "practice" the word morning skate was not used, however, even if it was just a morning skate it still does not equal rest in my book.

RPI Gamenotes....Officials; Friday Refs= Chris Ciamaga/St.Lawrence.......Linesmen=Emanation/Taggert.......Saturday Refs= Mike Baker/Scott Whittemore....Linesmen= Emanation/Taggert...... http://www.rpiathletics.com/documents/2013/3/13/2012-13MHKYGameNotes_Quarterfinals.pdf?id=1508

FWIW, we had Baker for the last time these teams faced each other in the playoffs, but he was paired with Feola (all three games). No noticeable disparage in penalties (accounting for even-ups of course), but they looked to be very tightly called based upon the box scores. RPI needs to stay out of the box.

I hope the referees are on their game, because Emanation is useless. He can't even drop the puck right. I just can't take watching him.

Right to the point. Stop their best line from beating us. Stand up to the physical play. Find a way to score like we have in the past 10 games against a very solid goaltender. Getting the lead is extremely important as brown has not show that they can score a lot all season. All the makings of a close couple games (perhaps a little OT??)

A very telling stat: Brown is 9-5-1 when scoring first, and 4-7-5 when being scored on first. That was the difference in the regular season game in Troy, and it was the difference this past weekend, as Clarkson simply couldn't come back from a pair of three-goal deficits.

I noticed that-but RPI has fairly similar results. When we score first, lead after the first-we are a different team. We seem to have more balance in scoring but one really good line can give anyone a lot of trouble(see SLU) when you have the goaltending to back it up. I see this as one tough set of games. This one could go 3 and ther could be a couple OTs involved. A lot will depend on the flow of the game-too many TV time outs or ref calls could change the entire character of what we get on the ice.
