Brown Hockey 2014-2015 - Onward and Upward

Re: Brown Hockey 2014-2015 - Onward and Upward

You are pretty much always on the mark with your comments. I didn't watch the game but when I saw SLU with 5 goals I just thought Ernst did not play well. Was he really betrayed by the lack of defense in front of him?

Yes. In the first two periods, it was tighter and SLU had some very good shots which he stopped. Goal one few would stop just because the pass came out of no where to a guy wide open in the slop. Goal 2 was a tap in rebound. Then in the third Brown basically just stood there and watched a player go in and score on a breakaway. Defense was not good in the third, for either team really. SLU was sloppy in the third too. Ernst has some quality saves and kept it closer than it was for about 50 minutes. He wasn't spectacular but he was very solid.

Fearless Predictions:)

Brown 2 Q 2

Brown 3 Princeton 1

Not ready to give up completely on the team!!

Just want to pass on the "Cheap Shot" hit by RPI's 3ed line Jake Wood that got him a two game suspension. Our trainer stopped the bleeding and stitches closed up the gash in Charlys head.

When it rains it pours. Going off-topic: Leland King has quit men's hoops, and presumably the university. He's a sophomore and was leading the team in points and rebounds this season, despite getting too few minutes. If you watched him play on ILDN, you saw the best raw talent on the team. Very smooth. But the body language was saying very loud and clear, I'm not happy here, so there was an inevitability about this development. He's from Brentwood in LA and probably misses the weather and the culture. Pac-10 schools had also recruited him, so I suppose we'll see him there next year.

I went to the home game against Yale (my first Brown basketball game in a long, long time). The team got killed by a terrific Eli squad that I think will top Harvard to win the Ivy League this year, but Leland was a monster. You're right though- he didn't get nearly enough minutes (wasn't in foul trouble, either) and he didn't really seem to fit in with the team. There were no interactions with teammates after the whistle. It was kind of weird. I wasn't totally surprised to hear he had left, just because of what I witnessed at the Pizz.

I travelled down to the Princeton game. A few good moments. Lafferty's goal showed why he was a NFL draft choice. Ernst made some terrific saves.

Real story was the parking - there was hardly any!! Hope Street and other surrounding streets had snow into the middle of each lane. I didn't realize snow removal in Providence was still based on strong. sunlight. If the Athletics Department wants to have fans for next week's 50th Reunion of the 1965 Team, it better arrange for parking somewhere. Still don't understand the removal of the parking area. It seems like another idea of Ruth Simmons to downplay athletics.

Re: Brown Hockey 2014-2015 - Onward and Upward

Question here is whether Brown can steal a point this weekend. Ernst or Steele or why not Maher. Also, the question is how has snow removal been around Meehan.

I truly hope there is a good turnout for the 50th Anniversary of the 1965 team. I remember well those Final Four games at Meehan. Still have the souvenirs, including the coaster.

Anyone at the game last night? Sounds like a complete collapse after being up 3-1.

Re: Brown Hockey 2014-2015 - Onward and Upward

In the AHL, last night Harry Z and Jack Mc played on the same line for Bridgeport against Syracuse.

Harvard dispirited after denying the world the Harvard/NU Beanpot final we so desperately need.

Well, they were outshot 59-18 from midway through the second period until the double overtime finish. So I think we can safely say the right team won.

One of these years, the BU/BC monopoly will end. It won't be this one, however.

Good win tonight. Next weekend looks promising with RPI and U having some tough times.

Attendance of announced 800+ for the Alumni Weekend is pretty bad. What kept fans away - the team's play or the parking situation/weather.

A suggestion for the Cornell/Colgate weekend - free admission. Let's see if that brings the fans in.

A SLU grad mentioned to me that with SLU winning the 2 games with Brown this season, the last time that happened was 22 years ago. Is that accurate?

Yes, it is the first time since 1992 that our nemesis has not taken at least one point from us. If you had any idea how bad we have played against you and only you in the last 30 years you would start to feel bad for us.

I'd feel bad, except for the fact that we've lost almost every game in that span to Dartmouth, Colgate, RPI, and Clarkson in the 90's. Our record against those teams in that time span is seriously pathetic.
