Brown Hockey 2011-2012 - The Future Is Now

Re: Brown Hockey 2011-2012 - The Future Is Now

Remember you only have until Nov 1 at 7PM to get your picks into the ECAC Pick The Standings Contest

Re: Brown Hockey 2011-2012 - The Future Is Now

Sounded like Clemente played well, but 0-6 on the power play isn't going to get it done. I know Dartmouth didn't do well either on special teams, but losing a 2-1 squeaker with such a bad power play is maddening.

Good bounceback vs. Princeton but only 4 goals all weekend clearly offers room for improvement

Looking at box scores for both games, it looked like everyone on the roster played except for the backup goalies. Anyone know what the lines and the D pairings were?

Euler:
Are you going to the games this weekend? If so, looking forward to your comments on Brown's play.

A few quick thoughts about the weekend.

Brown came out a little tentative against Dartmouth, but had a very good third period despite being victimized by a defensive mistake with three minutes left in the game, resulting in the second Dartmouth goal.

The Bears displayed far more zip Saturday afternoon, playing a strong game against a very talented -- and fast -- Princeton team. The adjustments to the lines produced immediate results. The Hathaway-Lamacchia-Jacobsen line was the most effective, scoring all the three goals. Bobby Farnham added needed energy to the first line, with Mclellan and Smith. Jeff Ryan played a spirited game after being moved from the fourth to the third line, with Juola and Zaires. The two freshmen defensemen, Kyle Quick and Joey DeConsylis, really impressed me. They're fluid skaters with very good passing and positional skills.

Mike Clemente was excellent in both games, coming up with big saves at crucial moments, including during a late Princeton power play. His technique was outstanding.

Garnet Hathaway appears to be poised for a very good season. He's stronger and faster, and has developed an excellent understanding of both the offensive and defensive aspects of the game. I've liked him from the very first time I saw him play as a freshman, so it's rewarding to see his growing maturity as a player.

And it's impossible not to like freshman Massimo Lamacchia. The little guy has terrific, albeit still somewhat unpolished hockey skills. He checks, he scores, he kills penalties -- everything at high speed.

The Bears are faster, deeper and more skilled this year. With freshman Chris Draper (who has been described by one of the coaches as "a big Bobby Farnham" -- in terms in skating ability, energy and dedication) ready to join the lineup next weekend, the team will look even faster. And when freshman Matt Lorito comes back from a forearm injury, the team will be able to rely on three highly skilled centers, who can both distribute the puck and score.

What box scores are you looking at? collegehockeystats.net is the definitive college hockey statistical source and has lines for all games.

Re: Brown Hockey 2011-2012 - The Future Is Now

Former RPI goalie Allen York started this week for the Columbus Blue Jackets.

I have fond memories of him because he was abused by Aaron Volpatti and crew a couple of seasons ago as Brown eliminated an RPI team that had both Jerry D'Amigo and Chase Polacek. Some happy thoughts for your Hump Day.

This week's games are being broadcast on AM790 locally, as well as the usual audio/video stream on Brownbears.com, according to the links on Brownbears.com.

Hopefully a good crowd tonight. WIth the soccers and football on the road as part of the "overlap" between winter and fall seasons, it would be nice to see the fans and students come out to Meehan. Not getting my hopes up, but it would be nice.

Just got back from Meehan. Klump, you nailed it with the comments about Brown's freshmen. Lamachia is a Martin St. Louis clone already. In an incredible move, he stripped the puck from a Cornell d-man, lulled Iles into thinking he was not going to shoot, then blasted it by him. also understand that Brown's highest rated recruit and scorer Matt Lorito will be suiting up by Thanksgiving. McClellan and Farnham both played quite well - Farnham is getting close to matching HZ's speed and Jack is a masterful stickhandler.Hopefully, Brown can continue this play and take two in the Capital District next weekend.

Hello fans of Brown Hockey-

I just wanted to quickly touch base with you in regards to the Goals For Good project. In short, it's a competitive goal-a-thon between every team in the ECAC, and every team has partnered with a charity in close relation to their team, school, and or community. We're currently looking for more prizes, but as of now, there is $1,000 on the line going to the local food cupboard of the team that raises the most money. Please check out www.goalsforgood.org to learn more and support your team and their charity by way of their goals and wins.

Thank you,
Kevin McNamara

When was the last time we had a 3-game win streak against Cornell??

And furthermore, why the hell does Colgate ALWAYS give us so much trouble? It feels like we never beat them (disregarding last year, of course).

Brown last won three against Cornell in the early 90s in the heyday of the Bob Gaudet era. Prior to that, it was the early 80s, believe it or not, when Brown struggled to finish .500 but had Cornell's number. Oddly, the series became particularly one-sided in overall wins and losses because of a long streak by Cornell in the early 70s (when everyone lost to Cornell) and the 2001-2008 stretch when Cornell was loaded and Brown, for the most part, was not.

As for Colgate, last year was the first time Brown had swept both Cornell and Colgate. Ever. For some reason, whether it was the clutch and grab Colgate teams that frustrated the bejesus out of Roger Grillo's most skilled teams (mssrs. Robinson, Haggett, et al), or the vintages of years past that turned Starr Rink into a Bruno house of horrors, Brown just has never played well against the Raiders.

Thank you Euler, that's exactly what I wanted to know but was too lazy to research!

I always dread the Colgate game because we rarely get a result out of it. I wouldn't be surprised if they had the best record against over the past decade and a half or so.

You're welcome, but I'm not Euler. As Pavarotti once said, "If you saw me once, you would not confuse me for the other." Indeed, I can only strive for such greatness, though a wise man (Emerson, a personal favorite) once said to be misunderstood is to be great. I venture a guess that many of us have been misunderstood or confused for another on these pages over the years!
