Brewers 2011 - Yo...Marcum for the post-season or jen may get a little Greinke

Re: Brewers 2011 - Yo...Marcum for the post-season or jen may get a little Greinke

Such a shame. It would have been nice to see what the Brewers could have done if their pitching staff didn't put them behind the 8-ball from the beginning in every freaking game. Sure, the defense is much maligned but most of the errors (7 out of 9, I believe) were in when games 5 and 6 were well out of hand. They hit fairly well this series and scored a bunch of runs, but it's too hard to come back from that big of deficits that many times. I personally would love to have Fielder back (who in their right mind would pitch to Braun next year), but am resigned to the reality that it's not going to happen. That said, what are some of the options for next year? What moves does the Crew make? We've got Greinke and Marcum for another year, right? One more shot?

Re: Brewers 2011 - Yo...Marcum for the post-season or jen may get a little Greinke

Just realized this:

2012 Season Opener - April 6, 2012. The opponent? The St. Louis Cardinals.

I wonder if Albert(a) or Prince will be in their respective 2011 uniforms.

Re: Brewers 2011 - Yo...Marcum for the post-season or jen may get a little Greinke

Honestly, I thought it would suck more. I didn't throw up when the Cardinals celebrated, or jump off the Loge, or anything. ;) I think it would have hurt a lot more to lose a close game or a well-played series. The Brewers definitely didn't deserve to win (still would've hurt less to lose to the Phillies, though!! :p)

I find it hard to get upset at the starting pitching, even though they were inconsistent over the last month. Marcum was the most consistent pitcher almost all season. The bullpen was incredible in the second half. At least they went out and made the trades they needed, and it won them the division. It wasn't that long ago we were ecstatic just to finish one game above .500, and now only 3 other teams can say they got as far as the Brewers. That stretch from end of July through August was just amazing - not sure we will ever see a Brewer team like that again. What a fun season.

I miss Prince already, though. I'm glad he batted in the 8th so the crowd had a chance to say thanks. A lot of people stayed for that, and then left.

Let's go Rangers!!! Although I'm not sure I can watch. I hope Nellie Cruz has at least 10 home runs, and the Rangers should do the claw or antler thing or whatever it is now ALL the time.

<a href="http://www.jsonline.com/sports/brewers/how-do-brewers-improve-on-2011-season-132214088.html">Q&A with Doug Melvin</a>, who doesn't tell us a whole lot we don't already know - but it's interesting to get his view, nonetheless.

<a href="http://www.jsonline.com/sports/brewers/132390368.html">team grades</a> and <a href="http://www.jsonline.com/sports/brewers/132388578.html">player grades</a> from jsonline. No arguments here. Overall grade is A-

Braun and Axford were the two A+

McGehee had the lowest grade, D, and Counsell and Betancourt both had D+

Also - for those in the Milwaukee area - there will be a new Northwoods League team playing at Concordia in Mequon - more info at the above link (although the link says Concordia College, which is wrong).

Ryan Braun is one of 3 nominees for gold glove in left field along with Matt Holliday and Gerardo Parra. I'd comment but defensive things like Range Factor and Zone Rating confuse me and no one seems to explain them well enough for me to know which number is better.

Well, this is the first year they've separated the outfield by position for GG's, so Braun stands a chance. Why in the world Holliday is nominated is beyond me.

Parra seems like the obvious choice if I'm reading the numbers right.

BOSTON- The Boston Red Sox have interviewed Milwaukee Brewers hitting coach Dale Sveum for their open managerial job.

Sveum, a third base coach with the Red Sox in 2004 and 2005, was the second person interviewed this week. The club brought in Philadelphia Phillies bench coach Pete Mackanin on Monday.

Both hope to take the job vacated when Terry Francona left following a record September collapse.

After holding a nine-game lead in the wild-card race through Sept. 3, the Red Sox missed the playoffs with a loss on the final night of the regular season.

The cubs are interested in Sveum as well as Mike Maddux, but are interviewing the phillies' bench coach first. I just can't see Sveum in the pressure cookers of Boston or Chicago as the head guy, having to talk to the media all the time.

<a href="http://www.startribune.com/sports/twins/blogs/133163998.html">Twins hire Cory Provus</a> as their #1 radio guy.

doh. I liked him... not that I listened to them on the radio that often. Can we get Pat Hughes back?

Re: Brewers 2011 - Yo...Marcum for the post-season or jen may get a little Greinke

Jesus. And I was just getting used to him.

Wonder who else in the MKE area sounds like Jim Powell that they can hire. :D

Oh, and Braves games were a treat to listen to on the radio. Jim Powell and Don Sutton had the same joking, "listening to two friends chat, and call a ballgame" atmosphere that Bob Uecker has had with Pat Hughes, Jim Powell, and Cory Provus.

I'd love to get Pat Hughes back and out of the sh**hole that is Wrigley.

FYI: <a href="http://www.jsonline.com/sports/brewers/hisle-goes-to-bat-for-troubled-youth-nr2vf38-133507288.html">Larry Hisle is rather awesome</a>.

Re: Brewers 2011 - Yo...Marcum for the post-season or jen may get a little Greinke

Melvin <a href="http://www.jsonline.com/sports/brewers/melvin-kicks-the-tires-on-furcal-mk324md-133853183.html">interested in a shortstop</a> and talked to Furcal's agent. I wouldn't mind him here - it'd be a huge boost to the infield defense... but 3 years seems a little long for a 34 year old shortstop. They also mention Melvin made a phone call about Reyes but that's it.

Melvin also said he was interested in Cuddyer but thinks he's going somewhere else.

With Sveum apparently being offered the Cubs job and Counsell apparently interested in an off-the-field role, maybe we can make him the hitting coach. :p I'm a bit bummed about Kotsay though, he seemed to do great as a PH and spot starter. I'm surprised we didn't make him an offer, or maybe we did and it just wasn't in the news.
