holy ****ing Casey McGehee!
Exactly what I was going to post! :) Hopefully, we see more of this as the season goes on. Well...not necessarily 3 HR's, but something better than .221.

Re: Brewers 2011 - Yo...Marcum for the post-season or jen may get a little Greinke

McGehee talked to a kid named Clayton on the field yesterday who asked him to hit a home run. We all know how that worked out! My favorite comment in a JS blog post about the conversation is:

"Clayton....I'd like you to meet Craig Counsell."

Re: Brewers 2011 - Yo...Marcum for the post-season or jen may get a little Greinke

Molina was suspended 5 games for his tirade. Seems light to me; I was expecting more like 7-8. If he doesn't appeal, that would put him out for the first game of the series with the Crew. If he does appeal, I bet they knock it down to 3 games, but depending on how long they take to do that, it could actually cause him to miss more of the series with us. Although, if he plays like he did Wednesday, that might not be such a good thing. :p

Edit: Molina accepts the 5 game suspension, so he's out for the series opener on Tues.

Let me get this straight, La Russa has problems with:

-the strike zone
-the LED ribbon lights
-pitching inside to Pujols
-Schroeder's comments on TV
-stealing signs (totally legal)
-jersey untucking
-watching your home run too long (opponents only)

Did I miss anything?

LaTroy Hawkins' quick pitch delivery.

P.S. My wife and I had great fun at the games Tuesday and Wednesday. We had tickets in "Casey's Corner" on Wednesday.

One of the guys on my Weds night softball team is from the St Louis area and he and his wife are hardcore Cardinal fans. They went to all three games and when I saw them last night they were *****ing about the roof opening and closing during the game to give the Brewers an advantage. I don't know if that was something LaRussa also griped about or if it was just them but they were really pוֹssy about it.

I believe the Brewers got permission from the league to do it whenever bad weather was imminent, so unless they love rain delays...stop complaining.

If they take after their manager, then there's no hope in that department.

There are MLB rules related to the roof, I'm pretty sure that the team has to leave the roof in place for a "full inning" whenever it is moved.

Wow Houston has gotten bad. I saw a comment on another website where the person referred to the Astros as the AAAstros :p

Re: Brewers 2011 - Yo...Marcum for the post-season or jen may get a little Greinke

so... big series coming up, eh? It's still pretty early, though. The Brewers will be lucky to get any hits, since they won't be able to cheat in St. Louis! :p (I guess they didn't need to cheat in Houston?)

by the way.. if the Brewers had won that extra inning game vs. the Cardinals.. we would've gotten free burgers at George Webb's with yesterday's win. ****. so close!

I noticed the Brewers would be 1 game behind Atlanta in the potential Wild Card standings. For awhile, it seemed like the NL East had the Wild Card locked up, but that isn't the case anymore.

Last night on SportsCenter: "Look out Milwaukee, the Cardinals have won 4 in a row and 5 of their last 6!"
Seriously ESPN? The Brewers have won 5 in a row and 11 of 12 including 2 wins against St Louis (which is why the Cards are 5 of their last 7).

In other news, I wonder if the Brewers will be able to sign:
Taylor Jungmann, RHP (1st Round Pick) College
Jed Bradley, LHP (1st Round Pick/No compensation if unsigned) College
<s>Dustin Houle, 3B/C (8th) Canadian Secondary School</s> (edit: signed back in late June apparently)
Andrew Cain, OF (12) College
Mallex Smith, OF (13) HS
Carlos Rodon, LHP (16) HS
Mario Amaral, C (17) HS
Chris McFarland, SS (18) HS
and so on...Rodon is supposedly asking for $750-800k in a signing bonus, Brewers are offering $250k last I heard...

Deadline for signing is August 15th. There's little incentive for them to sign now that the minor league seasons are winding down.

Yup, saw that after I made my post. I wish MLB had not changed the deadline. I kinda liked the draft a follow philosophy. Creating this short deadline in august sucks.

You wouldn't seriously expect them to advertise a stat that favored the smaller media market, would you? This is the same network that, when Favre gets inducted into the Hall of Fame, will almost assuredly show a highlight tribute package where 1/3 of the shots feature Favre in a Jets jersey, and they'll even sparkle in a shot of Tom Brady for good measure.

Don't know where this originated but it is hilarious and here is where I found it. Should be a good primer for the series.
http://espn.go.com/mlb/conversation...-milwaukee-brewers-fans-heckling-went-too-far

MILWAUKEE (AP)—Cardinals manager Tony La Russa told reporters after Thursday's 10-5 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers that Milwaukee fans distracted him into leaving newly acquired Edwin Jackson in the game "about 12 hitters too long."

"I'll tell you what, these fans are a bunch of idiots," La Russa said after the game. "It took a lot more time than I expected to educate them, and, as a consequence, I let (Jackson) face a few too many hitters. But the fans of Milwaukee are better for it, even though my team might have suffered a bit today. Well, at least the fans I could yell at behind the dugout are smarter... I don't know about those other morons in the stadium."

"Between the scoreboard, stealing signs, taking candy from babies and fans distracting the manager during the game, it's no wonder this team wins so many games at home," La Russa continued. "I've never seen anything like it in all my years as a manager. And I've been the best manager in baseball for the last quarter century."

"And you call Big Mac a cheater for 'roiding up?" La Russa said.

In a game that didn't go as expected, La Russa appeared agitated on a number of occasions during the game- most notably when Brewer third baseman Casey McGehee hit his sixth, seventh and eighth home runs of the year. The Cardinal overlord called McGehee's actions "unconscionable" and "bush", and challenged the player to "learn about the history of baseball. You don't do things like hit three home runs against the St. Louis Cardinals. Especially when you have hit as poorly as (McGehee) has all year."

La Russa also hinted that McGehee might be in for a bit of payback.

"He needs to be careful when he starts his car tonight. That's all I'm gonna say."

Approached after the game, McGehee wasn't too bothered by La Russa's comments.

"That's how Tony rolls," McGehee said. "We just have to keep playing our game and keep grinding things out. Besides, I took a cab to the game today."

La Russa did admit to his first ever mistake as a manger, saying he "might have been a bit distracted" during the bottom of the 7th, an inning that he spend on the phone with Milwaukee color man Bill Schroeder.

"Did I forget about Jackson in the bottom of the seventh?" La Russa asked aloud. "I might have, but (Jackson) understands how important it is that I educate the fans of Milwaukee, and the fans of America. It was only one game and it was only ten runs... but more than that, Brewer fans will have a better understanding of baseball now than they had before today. That's bigger than wins and losses."

"It was very cordial" La Russa said of the phone call with Schroeder. "As the keepers of baseball etiquette, we have a greater responsibility than any other team in baseball. Bill understands that now."

Asked if he'd change anything about today, La Russa thought for a minute. Then, in typical La Russa fashion...

"Yep, I'd have drilled that jerk McGehee after his second home run."

With today's win Milwaukee moves to 3.5 games ahead of the Cardinals in the NL Central.

Re: Brewers 2011 - Yo...Marcum for the post-season or jen may get a little Greinke

Suck it Tony!

Axford has to have a blown save in there somewhere but hopefully it isn't in the next couple of days. Great job recovering from that awful looking 5th inning by the heart of the order.

<a href="http://www.jsonline.com/newswatch/127436133.html">Freak accident shelves Narveson</a>. Will the rest of the pitching staff please stay away from the scissors?

That was a fun game. I am a pretty optimistic fan, but after the 9th, I did not have a good feeling. They missed a lot of opportunities.. but the Cardinals missed even more. Glad to read Marcum was just cramping and it's not an injury.

8 more games against the Cardinals this year.

Wolf vs Westbrook tonight and Carpenter vs Gallardo tomorrow

The Brewers fans with the hard hats and the "We're here to check the lighting" sign were awesome. :D I am curious what Tony is going to come up with next, since the "cheating at home" stuff didn't work out for him last night.

Thursday is gravy day!! Sure is a different Randy Wolf than what we saw for a decent chunk of last season.

I guess the Brewers brought the lights with them? :D
