Bracketology

Re: Bracketology

There is a first-round WCHA matchup, because #1 Miami is not going to play the Sioux and the WCHA places 6 teams in the field.

Miami would most definitely play the Sioux. BU (the No. 1 overall seed) had to face Ohio St (the No. 14 overall seed) last year so that neither Notre Dame nor Michigan had to play Miami or Ohio St.

absolutely right by FL.... good thing the season ain't ending today! (and Miami better be preparing the *****ing points, because if seeds 2-4 are wcha teams and there is a wcha in the 13-16 band they most certainly are not getting the aha squad!           )

:D :D too funny

[of course, that 'move' to take the auto bid away from BU was no doubt their easiest game last March ;) ]

Don't see the humor but your right they would play the WCHA team. Would welcome it, going to have to play good teams regardless to make the FF why not start in round 1 like they did last year and beat Denver and then UMD in round two....2-0-1 against WCHA this year as well, its a very tough conference but Miami is a tough team and would welcome any challenge. However, IMO, UND won't be a 4th seed. With their remaining schedule they will either be out or atleast finish 9th or 10th in the PWR.

nothing personal.. it's an annual rite of passage as we move from winter to spring. we had many *****ers last march when BU got "stuck" with tOSU. (those who ignored my "team of destiny" promises)

it's nice though that teams other than wcha'er get to complain that they are getting the screw.:D

OSU was 15. Air Force played their way into the tournament as the overall #14 seed.

The CCHA only had 4 teams in last year. The WCHA currently has 6.

Yea I guess, but I don't look at being the #1 overall seed as being screwed. Personally I think Denver got screwed more than BU lol. Yea playing the AHA team would be a better draw but playing a tougher first round opponent could sometimes get your better focused on the task at hand. With that said something that is no longer a given anymore is the fact that Bemidji will win the CHA tournament. Talk about throwing a wrench into things should they lose their tourny and the CHA gets two into the tourny and ECAC only 1  ! Like you said lots will change as they have on a nightly basis. I think we should only update the bracketology on a weekly basis because from friday to saturday it changes dramatically.

Also priceless there are only 3 CCHA teams in the tourny as of now, there are a couple knocking on the door but only 3 in as of now.

Yeah I'm not following that logic. Why would Miami most definitely not play the Sioux?

Mea culpa on the exact seeding. Still, the point remains that the committee won't hesitate to pit the No. 1 seed against someone other than the No. 16 seed in order to avoid an intraconference matchup. It doesn't matter how many teams the WCHA has -- if they can avoid having two of them face each other, they're gonna.

You might want to re-read my post. I said Miami most definitely WOULD play the Sioux in this scenario.

I thought OSU was the #15 seed, couldn't remember who the #14 was, but i knew my Beavers were the #16 seed! I just remember thinking going into the selection show that oh crap we'll have to play BU to start the tournament, and then Notre Dame popped up and i felt somewhat relieved. Now with some possible doubt of BSU winning the CHA tourney, could there actually be two CHA teams making the tourney, or would another conference loss or two this season plus a loss in the conference tourney knock BSU all together from the ranks of the At-Large?

some of those pwr depends of course on the comparisons (cop) and how that falls out.

RMU
2-0-0 vs miami

0-2-2 vs cc
0-2-2 vs lake st

1-3-0 vs bemidji with two more rs at home, then the playoffs.

huntsville
0-2-0 vs lowell
0-1-0 vs uvm

0-4-0 vs bemidji with two more rs at home, then the playoffs

niagara
0-1-0 vs cornell
0-2-0 vs umass
0-1-0 vs sioux
0-1-0 vs michigan
1-2-0 vs stl

1-3-0 vs bemidji with two more rs there, then the playoffs

Only way that would happen this year was if there were 3 WCHA teams as 1 seeds and a WCHA team falls to a 4 seed. As the bracket is shaping out that is the only scenerio where Miami wouldn't play the AHA champ as the overall seed because of bracket integrity and location. It was almost the perfect storm last year in regards to BU playing OSU than Bemidji and OSU was the 15th team in the PWR last year and ND was the 2 seed which is why they switch OSU and bemidji to avoid a conference first round matchup.

not sure you answered his question. I don't see anyway Bemidji doesnt make the tourny even if they lose the CHA tourny. They currently sit 5th in the PWR and even if they lose 3 more games ( one in the conference tourny ) they would still make it. Theoretically if that should happen we could half 2 CHA teams and only one ECAC team  as cornell is the only ECAC team in the tourny as of today.

Re: Bracketology

I thought we were looking at where they'd seed (they're in, we agree there). The seeding will hinge on The comparisons

Ah gotcha, I just read the last part where he asked if there was a chance they could be out completely if they lost a couple games and in the conference tourny.

As for last year, I beleive Michigan was the other 1 seed correct? And Miami was the other 4 seed which adds to why Boston had to play OSU. Not sure who the 4th 4 seed was but I think it was Air Force. It goes on their PWR position and integrity of the bracket. BU had to play the next lowest 4th seed which was 15 and OSU. Miami was 12 and DU was 4 so that wasn't an issue. The issues was ND at 2 and OSU at 15, simple switch was 15 and 16. That could happen this year and would be the right thing to do. I don't think the WCHA will have a team at a 4 seed but they are the dominant conference, so the road to a title will go through the west.

Re: Bracketology

Which is exactly the case right now, which was my point.

read above, your point was trumped. I forgot the rule that if a conference has 6 teams in the tourny the conference matchup criteria is null and void. There for they would keep the 1 v 16 matchup to keep integrity of the bracket.

Re: Bracketology

Midwest Regional:

1 Miami vs 16 Atlantic Hockey winner
8 UMASS vs 10 Cornell

West Regional:

4 St. Cloud vs 13 Michigan State
5 Bemidji State vs 12 Colorado College

East Regional:

3 Wisconsin vs 14 Vermont
6 Duluth vs 11 Boston College

Northeast Regional:

2 Denver vs 15 North Dakota
7 Ferris State vs 9 New Hampshire

I don't think the selection committee will switch the AHA winner with North Dakota with the WCHA having 5 or more teams in the tournament. They want to protect the number 1 overall seed as much as they can.

That original Northeast regional (St Cloud, Bemidji, Michigan State, CC) looks awful for attendance purposes. Last week Jason Moy (Braketologist extraordinaire) made a switch in his bracket to help out issues with travel and attendance by moving Wisconsin to St. Paul and Denver out East. Because in his original bracket, number 1 seeds Bemidji, Wisconsin, and Denver would have to fly. By switching Denver's "pod" with Wisconsin's, only Denver and Bemidji would have to fly. This week it makes more sense to switch Denver's "pod" with St. Cloud's "pod". In our original bracket, Wisconsin, St. Cloud, and Duluth would have to fly. By switching St. Cloud and Denver, only Denver and Wisconsin would have to fly.

Attendance looks good with St. Cloud, Bemidji, CC, and Michigan State in St. Paul, Vermont and BC in Albany, and Miami in Fort Wayne, and UNH and North Dakota in Worchester.

With the way it is now, and I like what you did, I wouldnt put it past them to switch Ferris and Umass. Get another MW team that is a short drive to Ft. Wayne and another NE team out in that region. Both moves would bolster attendance in each region IMO. what do you think?

And have UMass play UNH? They won't and can't.
