Re: Bracketology

With the way it is now, and I like what you did, I wouldnt put it past them to switch Ferris and Umass. Get another MW team that is a short drive to Ft. Wayne and another NE team out in that region. Both moves would bolster attendance in each region IMO. what do you think?

That would create an inter-conference match up between UMASS and New Hampshire.

Which is why I should pay more attention.... I think they will try to get Ferris and Miami into Ft. Wayne if they can. Would help attendance, Ft. Wayne isn't a big city and Miami's fan base couldn't support it by themself. Wouldn't see too much help from the other schools, well besides Cornell but dont know how they typically travel.

Or you could put MSU in there and gift wrap a national championship for us like they did by putting us 45 minutes from campus in 2007.:D

Re: Bracketology

Attendance will not be an issue if St. Cloud is in St. Paul. We may not travel real well, but I remember back to the year we won the FF and looking up and almost the entire upper deck being Huskie fans.

There are more of us then people think, and if we finally get into a regional that is not 800 miles away St. Paul will be littered with Cardinal and Black.

If SCSU is in St. Paul for the regional I will be there and I have never gone to a regional before. This is due impart to blowing what is left of the hockey budget at the FF. I don't care though if we are in St. Paul I will take out a loan!! :)

I don't think its likely we'll end up in St. Paul, but I agree we'd get as many bodies in there as possible. We won't have a majority, there are too many fans of hockey in Minnesota that don't care who plays, they'll just go, but if we got our first NCAA game out of the Eastern Time Zone to be at the X, we'd have more than our fair share there.

I would hope the attendance would not be an issue with St. Cloud, Bemidji, Colorado College, and Michigan State.

Re: Bracketology

Because the committee has no obligation to avoid the first round matchup since there are 6 WCHA teams right now.
Are people forgetting why there was a first round intraconference matchup a few years ago? There were 3 WCHA teams as three seeds and 2 as two seeds (or vice versa). They will avoid an intraconference matchup if they can.

Yeah, they will if it makes sense to, but not at the expense of having to make the #1 overall seed play against North Dakota, especially if the rules state that they don't have to if there are 5 or more teams from one conference.

I don't believe the rules say anything about 5 or more teams.

The rules say 2 plays 3. The rules also say teams can't change bands. With only 3 of 8 teams in the 2 and 3 bands not in the WCHA, 2 WCHA teams had to play each other...

Conference matchups in first round are avoided, unless five or more teams from one conference are selected, then the integrity of the bracket will be preserved.

There is a rule that states if there is more than 5 teams from one conference in the tournament they will not use the avoid a conference match up criteria in moving teams around, which is why two years ago they had 3 WCHA teams in madison because there wasn't a way to avoid it. There for if 6 WCHA teams get in they won't move Miami away from the 16 seed to avoid an inter conference matchup. That same reason is why they moved Bemidji and OSU last year because there wasn't that many CCHA teams in and they could avoid it and keep the integrity of the bracket.

Lol not out of the realm of possibility that Sparty could get to Ft. Wayne as well. But should you get there, it will be far from gift wrapped. Ft. Wayne is maybe 2 hrs from oxford on a bad day. We would welcome a rematch, after all sparty is the only non CHA team to beat us this year lol

Well...that's not entirely true. They will still avoid conference match ups in moving teams around as much as possible. But having 5 or more means that they aren't required to move a team automatically because of an inter-conference match up.

I don't think we'll know what the NCAA would do in a scenario like this because a scenario like this hasn't been presented. It was close last year but it is till a different scenario than what is presented this season.

Good point, only difference is they don't have much flexibility. Its either they have an inter conference match up or they keep the seeds as is and keep the integrity of the bracket as best as they can. Unless I am missing something?

Re: Bracketology

Missed that part, my mistake. I still don't think they hesitate to switch #15 and #16.

It's hard to say at this point. They did last season, because they had to. This season they aren't required so it will be interesting if this is the scenario at the end of the season to see what they do.

I'm sure Jason Moy will chime in this week with his interpretation.

Or my favorite team could play better so we don't have to cross that bridge.
