Re: Bracketology

If Wisco is overall #3 and St. Cloud is #4 I just can't see them giving St. Cloud the regional in St. Paul. Especially with UND in Wisco's regional as well. If it would be all East schools then I could see St. Clouds pod getting moved since it would also have Bemidji. A lot will be riding on the Huskies/Badgers series next weekend.

I think the fan bases for UND and Wisco are bigger than SCSU and Bemidji. If you switch those two pods attendance would wouldn't be as good in Albany. As it is you would have Cornell and BC along with the fan bases of Wisco and UND that travel well. If you switch you are relying on Vermont to pull large at the gate. This way you have great attendance in Albany and Great in St. Paul with Bemidji and SCSU nearby. St. Paul's attendance will be great either way you go, I just think they are concerned about Albany.

Since Boston College and Bermidji are tied, why not have in St Paul: Wisconsin, Bemidji, North Dakota and Cornell. Then you have 3 teams able to Drive to St Paul and what should be an outstanding crowd. Plus you have BC and Vermont in Albany with St Cloud and Ferris St. Attendance might not be quite as high in Albany, but I think St Paul would more then make up for the difference.

You make a fine argument. I just like to argue against the Huskies being in St. Paul as to not get my hopes too high. So you're saying there's a chance.........I read ya. :)

I'm not so sure "that" many uw fans would travel to St. Paul, even for a regional. Its strange to say but there is a strange fan base with the team this year, i don't know if its because the average or underachieving teams we have put on the ice that last couple years but we have only had 1 sellout this season, Sat. against #1 Denver. we didn't even sellout the minnesota series, the first time i can remember that not happening in a while. 55,000 for the outdoor game sounds like a lot but really I can't believe it wasn't closer to 70,000. Its strange this is the best team UW has had in 4 years and yet know one is talking about them. A lot of the blame goes to our local media, they suck something bad. But when you have the #3 hockey team in the country you should be selling out at least every saturday game.

But back to the regional. having UW in St Paul would help a little but UND would most likely draw more traveling fans...

Re: Bracketology

This is what I came up with as I'm going with BC as the best team in Hockey East right now. I think they'd be the favorite to win the tourney, not UNH:

1. Miami
2. Denver
3. Wisconsin
4. St. Cloud State
5. Bemidji State
6. Boston College
7. Maine
8. Colorado College
9. Massachusetts
10. Minnesota-Duluth
11. Vermont
12. North Dakota
13. Ferris State
14. Michigan State
15. Cornell
16. RIT

Midwest:

1. Miami (1)
2. Colorado College (8)
3. Massachusetts (9)
4. RIT (16)

West:

1. St. Cloud State (4)
2. Bemidji State (5)
3. Vermont (11)
4. Ferris State (13)

Northeast:

1. Wisconsin (3)
2. Boston College (6)
3. North Dakota (12)
4. Michigan State (14)

East:

1. Denver (2)
2. Maine (7)
3. Minnesota-Duluth (10)
4. Cornell (15)

UND will travel well where ever they go, that is more the point. Also I would tend to think that UW would travel better than Bemidji or SCSU. Could be wrong but think they would.

Because teams like St. Lawrence and RPI are sitting on the edge of the top 25. Union would love to see RPI get in (3-1 this season against RPI). Therefore, Cornell, Yale and Union would love to see St. Lawrence and RPI sweep this weekend and attempt to join the party in the top 25 as TUCs.
Could someone explain how Yale, who is 0-2 vs. RPI, would beneift by RPI becoming a TUC? Certainly Union would benefit and Cornell would if they beat RPI in their rematch. Also, Cornell and Union would benefit by SLU's inclusion, and Yale's situation depends on the rematch.

Re: Bracketology

Well things got a little more dicey tonight. UND loses, Ferris loses, Bemidji loses. Sparty slids in with UNH win, Lake st and Alaska inch closer with nice wins....its going to be fun to watch. Miami clinched a regular season conference title tonight, I believe first team in the country to do so.

The brackets actually look awesome tonight, depending on the DU/UMN outcome.

Re: Bracketology

Quick question, what size is the rink at each regional? I know St. Paul is NHL size, is it the small sheet all around? I've never paid attention if it's the same size ice in all the regionals/NCAA tournament in the past.

The size of the rink depends on the host. I don't know what the sizes are this year but when the regional was held at Mariucci last year the games were played on an Olympic size sheet.

They are all NHL sized (assuming Ft. Wayne is, as its a pro rink...)

Beavs still tied for 5th in the Pairwise though

Dont sleep on NMU...playing some of the best hockey in the country right now, and some big games to round out the year at Michigan and home against Lake State with some big Pairwise points up for grabs. It wont be enought to slide them to the top 14 (Come on, Beminji is going to blow the CHA Playoffs).

Re: Bracketology

(Come on, Beminji is going to blow the CHA Playoffs).

As was noted, BSU is still t5 in the PWR after losing back-to-back games to Bobby Mo (who, btw, is #39 in the RPI)...

NMU (or any team 13+ PWR) better be huge BSU fans right now, as the Beavs have apparently done enough for an at large bid (assuming they play at mimimum .500 hockey from this point out). This means that if they "blow the CHA Playoffs," the CHA likely gets two teams in, and someone like NMU or another 13+ PWR gets left out...
