BouncyBall 2013/2014

Re: BouncyBall 2013/2014

A 44-minute clock?

If they really want to speed up game time, find a way to speed up the last 2-3 minutes of clock. If you're down by 15 and still fouling and calling timeouts with 30 seconds left...

From all the hoopla I've seen regarding this online today, I think everyone seems to have missed the point with this... The idea is not to get the game done in 2 1/2 hours instead of 2:45.... It's to reduce the amount of time that players will play... Taking the 4 minutes away per game will reduce the total time played by teams over the course of the season by over 7 games.... That's what they want to reduce... It's the overall wear & tear.....

Silly idea. If they do this, the stars will still play the same # of minutes - the scrubs who play in the 2nd and 3rd quarters will be the ones who get less playing time. The coaches could reduce wear & tear on the stars with a 48-minute clock if they wanted to - just go to the bench more often and for longer durations. The fact that they don't do this now shows that they won't do it with a 44-minute clock. They'll still milk as many minutes out of their stars as they think they can get away with, same as today.

Just put mandatory limits on play time like in little league! Everyone must play and no one can play more than 30 min. a game.

The college basketball season started last night.

It was the only game of the season for which the UConn women's team won't be televised in CT. I wasn't planning to watch it since they were playing in CA, but I wound up staying up late and thought I'd check it out on ESPN3. With 12 minutes left in the 2nd half, the score was UConn 77, UDavis 25. I did not watch any further.

On that note, the UAA women's team had a game last week against Utah and won. Now I know early in the season blah blah blah but still, for a DII team to take down a Pac-12 team on the road is crazy.

Re: BouncyBall 2013/2014

#6 Stanford women top #1 UConn in OT, 88-86, to end their 47-game winning streak. Four years ago Stanford had snapped UConn's 90-game winning streak.

Re: BouncyBall 2013/2014

Creighton comes back from 18-down and upsets #18 Oklahoma in Omaha to improve to 3-0 in the post-McDermott era. I'm thinking they finish a little better than 9th in the Big East.

Re: BouncyBall 2013/2014

Bucks won their third in a row in triple OT over the Nets. Already almost halfway to their win total from last season.

Re: BouncyBall 2013/2014

The 76ers are now 0-14.

And the only team in the West that does not have a winning record vs the East so far is OKC, who is missing their two best players.

Anyone see the end of the Michigan-Nova game? One of the most monstrous and perfect blocks I've ever seen in the last 7 seconds. Nova player literally took the UM player to the ground just by getting his hand on the ball, and it was entirely clean too.

On the flip side, one of the weirdest games I've ever watched. Four times it looked like UM or Nova was going to run the other team out of the building before the other team came back with a huge run of their own.
