BouncyBall 2013/2014

Re: BouncyBall 2013/2014

Actually, she will be the second-ever female assistant. NESN reminds us that the Cleveland Cavaliers hired Lisa Boyer in 2001-02.

So does this mean the Spurs are gonna play a "Fundamentally sound" game and not dunk the ball

Yes, they're still going to play boring ball while winning championships and frustrating Alex Silver and the executives of ESPN.

Re: BouncyBall 2013/2014

Did anyone read the email? I did. It wasn't THAT bad if didn't think. I'm not sure he deserved to go...

Did you read the context in which he wrote that? He was saying that it was all a bunch of racist BS and misconceptions.

If you are referring to the article written, He's saying now that his email then was racist garbage. The article isn't the email itself.

I'm talking about the e-mail itself:

My theory is that the black crowd scared away the whites and there are simply not enough affluent black fans to build a signficant season ticket base. Please dont get me wrong. There was nothing threatening going on in the arean back then. i never felt uncomfortable, but i think southern whites simply were not comfortable being in an arena or at a bar where they were in the minority. On fan sites i would read comments about how dangerous it is around philips yet in our 9 years, i don't know of a mugging or even a pick pocket incident. This was just racist garbage. When I hear some people saying the arena is in the wrong place I think it is code for there are too many blacks at the games.

All typos sic

In fact, read the comments section on Deadspin:

Even in that paragraph the racism is the assumption that the danger is black people.

It isn't any better. Even if he sounds like he's saying the fans are wrong.

Re: BouncyBall 2013/2014

But lots and lots of people with more money than they know what to do with are lining up to purchase the Hawks.

So the guy gets $1 billion+ in a forced sale. Yeesh!

I think you're missing his point. He's saying that a bunch of hillbillies see black people and run away. He said he never felt uncomfortable but the other people who actually think this believed in a bunch of racist garbage. He's basically saying that he doesn't buy into this BS that black people are inherently dangerous and wonders out loud if that's the reason white people from Atlanta aren't attending.

I'm sure he meant something innocuous. But none of his fan examples said they were afraid of black people. That was his conclusion. He even states that in his first sentence.

He eliminated all other possible reasons for his fan bases perceived fears about being at games.

So you're saying that calling racist white people "racists" is racist? Um, sure.
