BouncyBall 2013/2014

Re: BouncyBall 2013/2014

did you REALLY <strike>waste</strike> enjoy all that time with WOMEN'S bball?

There's "women's" ball (meh) and then there is UConn women's ball, which is an entirely different matter!

Be careful, you never know whose nationally famous All American daughter you might be insulting.....

(not mine, but someone's I'm sure)

Basketball is boring, whether it is men or women playing.

Dunking during warm-ups. Techical against KSU. Kentucky shoots 2 FT's before the opening tip.

Stupid rule.

are you implying this is like bc hockey? where the only competition they get is in practice :D uconn 'ladies' still have to play other women's teams, no :p

and they may be all-american. heck, there are bowling all-americans --- sure don't mean mookie wants to watch 'em!

Re: BouncyBall 2013/2014

I was going to make a comment about how Coastal Carolina was up by 10 on Virginia, but they have sufficiently piddled down their legs in the interim, so never mind.

Re: BouncyBall 2013/2014

Just got my email that there are zero brackets left in the Billion Dollar Challenge.

I would be really ****ed if I had a perfect bracket going somewhere else that wasn't officially in that Challenge pool. Think Warren would be cool enough to at the least buy that person dinner?

Really wish I had gone the other way on the VCU-SFA game.

If I say anything more, I'll start to sound like JDubbs talking about Minnesota ice hockey, and I already know how well that goes over.

I see artistry, you see whatever. so it goes. :)

The NC win hurts my bracket, I had Providence. It sure looked like traveling to me before the last-second foul was called. Oh well.

So one of Buffett's insurance companies pockets a nice piece of change, and presumably the company that paid him to insure the stunt also makes a profit on the advertising revenue and the sale of email contact lists. Isn't capitalism just amazing sometimes in the weird ways people come up with to make money??

Re: BouncyBall 2013/2014

When I started running our pool six or seven years ago, in order to get more "novices" involved (I spun it as a matter of "office morale" to have a high participation rate ;) ), I introduced a payout structure so that the lowest score got a refund of their "entry fee." From the remainder, winner gets 60%, 2nd 30%, 3rd 10%. We now have people from outside the office asking to be allowed to join. ("of course," we reply. :) )

They might also like our scoring system. We wanted to reward both people who picked a large number of the early rounds correctly, and also those who correctly picked teams that would make a deep run. So we devised the (2n-1) structure: 3 points in the opening round (I refuse to call the "play-in" games the first round), 5 points in next round, then 9 / 17 / 33 and 65 for picking the winner. Total possible points per round goes down as points per game go up.

Generally I pay no attention at all to men's college basketball all season, until after the brackets are posted. I have a few "go to" websites for advanced statistics (ken pomeroy, georgia tech) and the Wall St Journal tool is very helpful too.

One year I had the dubious honor of both finishing 2nd with one bracket and having my entry fee refunded with the other. :o

There is one perfect bracket left on Yahoo that did not enter the challenge.

Re: BouncyBall 2013/2014

typical NCAA scheduling an eastern time zone game as the last game of the night. nova-uconn tipping off at 10 PM local time in buffalo. makes zero sense.
