BouncyBall 2013/2014

Re: BouncyBall 2013/2014

Watched 13 hours of basketball and hockey yesterday, that included seven OT games between the four bball games and then the Wings, MSU/OSU and UM/PSU. I may have actually OD'd on sports yesterday, but I'm ready to do it all again today.

Re: BouncyBall 2013/2014

Kudos to the Mercer students for following the team well; consistently loud and cheering. Great first half.

I really wanted to pick mercer over duke but I just couldn't let myself. someone noteworthy before the tournament started had tipped Mercer as the sleeper upset pick and i failed to follow through.

Re: BouncyBall 2013/2014

Too bad for me that NC State couldn't sink a few free throws....I'd be looking pretty good right now.

Nice save by UConn. Hit 15 of 16 free throws to end the game. St. Joe's "should" have won that one.

Re: BouncyBall 2013/2014

I picked Mercer in about half of my brackets, unfortunately, I'm pretty much out of it at this point, even after my 3/3 start yesterday.

Re: BouncyBall 2013/2014

I got through yesterday pretty well. Im at 150,000th on ESPN...which isn't all that bad. Today however, I lost New Mexico, Duke, and soon to be UMass. Luckily I only had Duke going on to lose to Michigan. So it doesn't hurt me that much...

Re: BouncyBall 2013/2014

3 Creighton has its hands full against 14 Louisiana-Lafayette with 7 to go in the second half...

ETA: Looks like they'll make it.

After the Dook upset, there are 16 people left in the running for Warren Buffett's billion dollars.

After the Dook upset, there are 16 people left in the running for Warren Buffett's billion dollars.

Still? and it's not really a full $1 billion, that is the undiscounted total payout over a period of years. In present value terms it is "only" about 45% of that, I'd guess. Not all that familiar with the details.

and from there, I'd guess that Quicken paid Buffett maybe 0.5% of that number as an insurance premium, and then sold advertising and email lists left and right.

I went to enter the contest but then i was told I had to "register" with yahoo first and that was enough for me to get fed up with the advertising thicket

Playing Powerball so far, I've won $4 twice and $7 once. No spam, no ads, no bother.

Re: BouncyBall 2013/2014

So far, three times in tournament history has the same school placed a team in the finals for men's and women's division I basketball tournament in the same year.

Louisville last year, obviously.... 1 W, 1 L
Duke in 1999: 0 W, 2 L
UConn in 2004: 2 W, 0 L.

There have been seven other years in which the same school reached the Final Four in both.

If anyone cares, here is the complete list:

1983 Georgia
1999 Duke (men lose to UConn in Final, women lose to Purdue in Final)
2002 Oklahoma (women lose to UConn in Final)
2003 Texas
2004 UConn (only Div I school to win both basketball titles in same year)
2005 Michigan State (women lose to Baylor in Final)
2006 LSU
2009 UConn (women win)
2011 UConn (men win)
2013 Louisville (men win, women lose to UConn in Final)

UCLA and UConn are tied with most tournament championships at 11:
UCLA 11 M, 0 W
UConn 3 M, 8 W

Now the lull between games is ending soon. Enough trivia, time for more action!

The Colonels of Eastern Kentucky (someone somewhere in the media has to have made a KFC reference, right?) are giving Kansas quite a game.

according to this story, only 6 people left in the billion dollar bracket challenge, and all 6 had Kansas winning today.

The story whose link I posted also purports to have links to the remaining brackets as well.
