Bottom Feeders 2017-18

Re: Bottom Feeders 2017-18

Any idea who won the later game in Ouray? Since RPI only wins one game per month (and we have our one win already this month), I feel confident that we can have a rematch with UNH.

Due to a freak electromagnetic anomaly driven by unexpected solar winds and adverse weather conditions at the White Sands Test Facility, the only tracking station with eyes on the game — the International Space Station —*was unable to report on the game. They did note, however, that the borscht that came up with the 54S crew was particularly foul.

I would be disappointed if results were posted in a timely manner. So far, so good!

I'm trying to get the results today, but Houston Flight keeps saying something about "it's a crew off-day you jerk" and "we have crappy comm coverage today, too".

Re: Bottom Feeders 2017-18

For the late game in Ouray, falling snow and teams that were running on the Knockwurst Nightmare felt tired and sluggish. Could have been the tents, too. Either way, can't say who, but a few RPI players got hammered and played drunk the entire game. As a result, they fired a wrister into their own goal at 18:56 of the 3rd period, giving Vermont a 1-0 win. RPI will play UNH in the regional final.

At Bad Axe, we finally received word that Western's goalie was left behind in Kalamazoo, and the backup was drinking cough syrup to pass the time while in net. SLU quickly netted 2 in the first and that's how it ends. Western advances to the regional final.

Out of Mt. Washington, it was hard to tell between the puck and Marty's "present." Wisconsin thought they got a goal, but it was the poo. Miami did score early (with the only puck), but Wisconsin finally figured out the puck too. After both goalies decided to fight in the center of the rink, the ref failed to blow the whistle, and Wisconsin scored to tie. After everything settled down and as the temperature dropped even lower, Wisconsin put one through again. 2-1 is how it ends, with Miami advancing to the regional final.

Some more action before I get too buzzed tonight:

At Elba, UAA actually figured out how to move the puck. Remember, only one puck for these events. We spent all our money on Rachel Ray and Sandra Lee. Where was I going? Carrier pigeons running late... either way, Pigeon Mortimer says RIT turned it over with about 5 minutes to play, and UAA scored 1 minute later. Moving the puck is hard here. Anyway, UAA wins 1-0, meaning RIT pulls off the upset and moves on to the regional final

South regional final: Niagara vs. RIT

At Mt. Washington, Tom Anastos was on hand to watch his old team. How did he find out? Michigan State decided to play 6 skaters, and it's not helping. one of their players has Boone's Farm, and can be seen drinking it on the bench. Alaska ends up with 4, Sparty only got 1, so Michigan State moves on to the regional final.

East Final: Sparty vs. Miami

At Bad Axe, as Western was enjoying the results (did they want to advance?), Arizona State thought they'd start another brawl. Bentley came to play though, knocking out Coach Powers and three of Arizona State's players. While this was going on, the refs looked the other way and swallowed their whistles. Bentley scored twice while Arizona State was trying to defend themselves... the Devils got one back, but it wasn't enough. Bentley 2, ASU 1. Arizona State moves on.

Midwest regional final: Arizona State vs. Western

Results for the regional finals could be up tomorrow...could be up in April. Depends on when those darn carrier pigeons get here.

Sounds like RIT came to play :D

Re: Bottom Feeders 2017-18

Chester, the pigeon I assigned to the West Regional, is here.

Ree Drummond cooked another disgusting meal for RPI and UNH. Nobody wants to talk about it. During the game itself, Dick Umile and the coach from RPI got into a shouting match. Lots of insults about mothers were bandied about. Once again, where was I going with this? Ah yes. The chicken scratch on the note is almost illegible, but I can see a New Hampshire player beat the RPI goalie senseless with the goalie's own stick. While that was happening, another Wildcat scored. Not to be outdone, two Engineers took out the Wildcat goalie. RPI scored. Tied at 1 with 2 minutes to play, a UNH defenseman got through the wall of RPI players, they were skating 6, and broke the tie. Despite a hail of shot attempts in the final two, RPI couldn't even the game. UNH 2, RPI 1, so RPI advances to the Futile Four.

Re: Bottom Feeders 2017-18

Irony not lost on UNH fans in getting knocked out of tournament by one of the only two teams that they beat since December 6, 2017.

Not surprising considering how RPI has managed snatching defeat from the jaws of victory all season long.
Congrats to Coach Dave Smith and the Engineers as they are bound for the bayou.

Re: Bottom Feeders 2017-18

Pigeon Mortimer is here.

RIT and Niagara. Two Atlantic Hockey teams squaring off for a right to the Futile Four. Off the bat, the meal prepared by Guy Fieri was on the mind of the players. Lot of upset stomachs. Not as bad as Drummond's Knockwurst Nightmare, but several players were seen lining up in the roller rink's bathroom before game time. 10 minutes in, a Niagara player scored after bouncing a puck off an RIT player's face. Not to be outdone, with 2 minutes left in the 2nd, RIT evened the score after clearing the puck and having the Niagara goalie nowhere near the net. 5 minutes into the third, RIT took the lead doing the hidden puck trick. Another three minutes, and RIT seized a 3-1 lead after Niagara scored an own goal. That's how it ends, and Niagara advances to the Futile Four.

Well, I'm glad that's over! Congrats to Niagara and they speed to the bottom!

Re: Bottom Feeders 2017-18

And half the Futile Four is set: the South champ Niagara vs. the West champ RPI.

If I have time tomorrow, will finish the East and Midwest write-ups.

Speaking of write-ups, how am I doing? And I know, I know, I should get the player's names, but this is the BFB, and there's not enough coffee for the Commish to care about each player's name. Not enough red wine, Dragon's Milk, or Fireball either.

A very unexpected outcome, I assure you

Almost assuredly going to the championship. Only AHC team we have a historical losing record against.
