Parker comments in the Globe today.

I'm sure Parker's comments will be dissected ad nauseam here today.

Did they interview Jack Parker or Sgt Schultz?

I think it is inappropriate to hide by a screen name period, but a lot of people do it here and over other sport and news message boards. I will say that I think the female journalist has left herself open for potential criticism with some of her comments regarding the players' off ice personalities.

every person on here has left themselves open to criticism at one point or another...her comment on Trivino, that she didn't notice him to be constantly on the make, was pertinent given the questions asked about his off-ice behavior and was a better glimpse into his personal behavior than most of the bs on here. It was turned around, quoted in a signature and consistently brought up out of context.

Some of the best insights we have on athletes come from reporters, they see them frequently, don't hear just the cliche's etc and get a better feel for their personality. Most sports fans appreciate the perspective even if there often is a dash of homerism when writing about the hometown team.

If she was more experienced might she have thought of the potential backlash from choosing those words, possibly. Does that justify the treatment from supposedly grown men? Not even close.

edit: unless you and the others are say SHE deserves it???

Well it is interesting that he is sitting back and letting the dean of students handle this situation as opposed to how he handled the Trivino situation.

Re: Boston Universtiy 2011-2012 Part IV: Dont stop fighting til the fight is done!

The thing I have the biggest problem with you is:

Noonan has evolved as the premiere defenseman not just on the team, but also in the league.

http://dailyfreepress.com/2012/02/14/heartbroken-hero-noonan-nets-two-in-ot-loss/

That's criminal

First of all, it's ironic you would call this "criminal" given the current discussion on this thread. Secondly, harrassing someone because of an article that they wrote is a little childish, don't you think? I mean, it really bothers you THAT much, or are you just piling on??

Trivino had run out of chances when it came to alcohol. That, I think more than the assault, was why he was given the heave ho

Also: who the heck is responsible for the tags on this page/ thread?

Thanks for pointing that out. One in particular about a friend just ruined my day. :(

I think threadstarters can delete these tags, though. Hope it's done soon.

Hope everyone had a good long weekend. Say some prayers for Max and his family, the entire BU team/family, and most importantly this alleged victim.

That phrase was obviously tongue and cheek.

I think cracking some jokes about the reporter based off some of her previous posts (see Carmine's sig) are absolutely fair game.

As for the Parker article, he sounds like the head coach of the NFL team I root for, Rex Ryan who claimed he had the pulse of the team while it was crumbling around him:

"Is this the culture of the BU hockey team? Is this the culture of BU athletics? If it is, the buck stops here. But I don’t believe it is."

Re: Boston Universtiy 2011-2012 Part IV: Dont stop fighting til the fight is done!

I'm not too encouraged by Parker's comments. Saying he has the pulse of the team is kinda like JD saying he actually has a girlfriend (which was sorta true until she sprung a leak and he was unable to re-inflate her). In both cases it could be true, but I'm not sure I believe it. Its possible that the kids playing for him these days have a sense of entitlement that he's not used to dealing with in the first 30 years of his coaching career. He personally absolutely has high standards I'm sure. The problem is enforcing that the players live up to those standards, and that's where the problem lies.

Since the photo is now deleted, can you say what it was? Or, at least, a vague description?

From the 2 seconds I spent looking at it yesterday, Max had is arm around some girl in a low cut top, he was looking at her chest and giving the thumbs up sign with a dumb drunk look on his face..... or something along those lines. A tasteless photo to say the least.

Re: Boston Universtiy 2011-2012 Part IV: Dont stop fighting til the fight is done!

Dumb hockey players provide great fodder. Most schools have had their share. Even BC.....BELIEVE THAT CHIT???!!! LOLOLOL
Parker and Yorks days are numbered. Both well beyond their useful years.

I'm not sure Jerry York is "well beyond his useful years." I think a lot of people, myself included, believe he is doing a pretty good job (9 Frozen Fours and 8 Hockey East tournament titles in the last 14 seasons) .

Re: Boston Universtiy 2011-2012 Part IV: Dont stop fighting til the fight is done!

Hi!

Not a BU or BC fan. I like the school across the river, as one might guess from the user name. I came on here to see what was going on about the Nicastro matter. I am interested to see a number of posts seeming to blame this situation on Coach Parker. I would tend to think it is more the responsibility of the player rather than Parker unless it can be shown that Parker has actually done anything to actually cover up past problems with the player in question or shielded him in some way.

I will say this. I have followed college hockey in Boston for many years and have had season tickets to Bright Arena for 37 years. Parker would often turn up at Bright to watch games if BU was not playing and I have met him and chatted with him more times than I can count. He always seemed a really fine gentleman to me, a man with a great love for ice hockey and a very decent person. It does seem a bit harsh to blame him with no affirmative showing of any wrongful acts on his part.

I have no animus towards BU. My late mother was BU '32. I hope a just decision is reached in the courts on this matter and that BU can come out of this mess undamaged. Good luck gentlemen.

Thanks for the good comments.

Will any of these super awesome freep "journalists"/bloggers be heading over to the court today for arraignment?

They tweeted that they are there now and will update as soon as he is arraigned.

Re: Boston Universtiy 2011-2012 Part IV: Dont stop fighting til the fight is done!

when it comes to the pulse of the team, I think the question for the AD is "who is the 'good cop' on the staff?".

No way is JP as attuned to the players as he likely was years ago. I've commented that in the past the team was probably 75+% from the immediate area and many played for coaches that Parker knew personally. As we now see kids from all over the US and Canada, the national development program etc. it can't be assumed that a guy with that many years under his belt understands the players, and why they are at BU, like he used to.

So, if Parker is the 40 year veteran who has seen it all and is old enough to be the grandfather of the players, who is the young guy that players can go to, that can pick up on things without being told directly, that could talk to a guy outside of Jack's field of vision etc. Somebody has to be that person if the HC isn't. Not to say that some coaches aren't able to be buddy and disciplinarian simultaneously, but that is a rare combo and 40 years of experience isn't your friend.

If I was the AD I would recognize that Parker's strengths inevitably create weaknesses and I'd expect the staff selected to compensate for those weaknesses. If Parker didn't see it that way, that is the conversation I would have had back when Quinn left.

Re: Boston Universtiy 2011-2012 Part IV: Dont stop fighting til the fight is done!

From everything I've seen, Bavis fits your description pretty well. He might not match all of your criteria perfectly, but he's young and he's close to the players. He was always talking to someone when I was around Agganis, and the players always seemed to respect him and feel comfortable talking to him.

All very well put. I'm sure Parker is horrified by all this, even worse than the fanbase.

Re: Boston Universtiy 2011-2012 Part IV: Dont stop fighting til the fight is done!

This post is far too rational, logical, and well thought out for this thread.

Wait, are you just saying that because of the pro Parker slant? What if someone thinks Parker does share the blame?

I actually don't have a problem with anything he said. In fact, I don't know what else he could/should have said. It's a no win situation.

So Paul Kariya Leaving Maine in the middle of the season was wrong?

As Gentry pointed out, a bit of a difference going to the NHL. Regardless, still wrong IMO. But ya, let's turn this into a Paul Kariya discussion from 15-20 years ago...

Does that justify the treatment from supposedly grown men? Not even close.

Let me break out my violin. I'm convinced more than ever now that some of you are only saying all this because it's a female involved. There are plenty of people on here who are harrassed/made fun of, etc. It's a message board. It's not like she's being stalked/threatened. And what does it even matter if she doesn't post here anymore (allegedly)? I think she can handle it.

Secondly, harrassing someone because of an article that they wrote is a little childish, don't you think? I mean, it really bothers you THAT much, or are you just piling on??

Is she the only "journalist" ever to write something and receive negative feedback? It happens all the time.

Saying he has the pulse of the team is kinda like JD saying he actually has a girlfriend (which was sorta true until she sprung a leak and he was unable to re-inflate her). In both cases it could be true, but I'm not sure I believe it.

I'm flattered...

acs can be hard to ignore at times, but try not to take the bait.
