Re: Boston Universtiy 2011-2012 Part IV: Dont stop fighting til the fight is done!

I don't know the rules about this so I'm asking...
While Nicastro is suspended but still officially on the team can BU find another D for the UVM series? Or do they just have to dress only 5 (and 13 F I guess)?

Probably would be the same lineup they used against Merrimack when NiCastro was injured so they ll dress Ronan as a 6th d-man but he probably wont see much ice team unless they have a comfortable lead. He didn't look out of place in his few shifts since then and then hopefully Privitera is back for the NU series

What do you mean find another dman? From where?

Oh that's right I completely forgot we had this guy:

Well we've already moved a forward from the BU club team up to the varsity team this year...

Re: Boston Universtiy 2011-2012 Part IV: Dont stop fighting til the fight is done!

Last I checked, hockey was more than statistics. Noonan is not a bad defenseman. I am not suggesting that. I'm suggesting the others are better DEFENSEMAN! I'm not suggesting he isn't a good QB on the PP or good offensive defenseman. However, if he coughs the puck up (which he does a lot if you watch the game) then NHL teams won't want him on the squad.

tell that to the folks from Maine, they insist it is ok to turn over the puck routinely and still be classified as a great dman.

Re: Boston Universtiy 2011-2012 Part IV: Dont stop fighting til the fight is done!

My God can we please stop using the word attack here? Nobody is "attacking" anyone.

I would say some of the comments directed at her around the time of the Trivino/Coyle stuff was borderline attacking...not to mention someone leaving her quote in their signature? All certainly designed to be insulting, if not attacking.

Abandoning your team halfway thru the season is wrong...period.

100% agree

I think it absolutely is unreasonable to put him in the same league as Dumoulin. How else would you recommend we disagree with this reporter other than on the internet? Set up a meeting in person?

I was not referring to disagreeing... by all means state your case about the best defenseman and it will make for a good conversation. I was talking about the insults referenced above. Overall point being that people shouldn't post something on here they would most likely not say in person.

And why does it matter male or female?

In this case it matters because some of the insults were based on insinuating that she had relationships with the players that were beyond professional.

irishfan had a pretty good top five...didn't include Noonan. Not saying you're wrong, but i don't think noonan is automatically top five. i am comfortable saying dumoulin is the best dman i've seen at BC since mottau and he's better than mottau.

I'd put Noonan down as being about equally valuable as Clendenning. So if Clendenning is top 5, then Noonan is too.

Eric, If she wants to be a journalist, she's going to have to learn to put up with criticism. Face it, if you're a journalist, your name is attached to everything you write and you will be critiqued. Part of the gig. Yes. I know. She's in college, but she was posting on here about non-hockey related stuff. I'm sure she can handle herself.

Re: Boston Universtiy 2011-2012 Part IV: Dont stop fighting til the fight is done!

It doesn't necessarily mean someone is at fault but in this case someone was at fault -- Charlie Coyle. He quit on his teammates.

This. He quit, plain and simple.

And for the record saying that Clendening belongs in that group would indicate Noonan belongs there, as this year in particular he's been the far superior player.
(defensively or all-around)

Nope, while you're right that Noonan has been among the best offensive D in the league this year, Clendening has been leaps and bounds the best defenseman our squad, stats do not tell the whole story here. Look at what happened when he was gone, we were in shambles against ND. He is the point guard of the powerplay, everything runs through him, he is in complete control of the offense when he's on the ice. He creates the flow of our offense when on the ice, particularly on the PP. There is a far better case to be made that he is the most skilled offensive Dman in the league. It is without question that #5 is far and away the most important skater on our team, and the level of success we achieve this year will be directly related to his level of play from here on out. That's not to say he has his hiccups and moments where he lacks intensity, but that doesn't change how vitally important he is to how successful we'll be.

As long as they're currently enrolled at BU, I think you can add anyone you want...don't think there's any deadline or anything like that.

Ya, simply putting a quote up from someone else in your sig? I just can't view that as attacking. It happens all the time on this board for various reasons. If it's insulting then maybe the person shouldn't have said it to begin with. And she's hardly the only person to ever be insulted on here. It comes with the territory. Also, don't you think there are plenty of instances on here where people write in a tone and say things they would never say to someone in person? I think it happens all the time. Doesn't make it right per se, but that's a message board for ya. If we're getting into specifics, I would absolutely tell her in person that I think she's crazy if she thinks Noonan is even in the same stratosphere as Dumoulin. Is he a good player and having a great year? Absolutely he is.

To be honest, I haven't seen enough of each guy being mentioned to put forth a definitive top five or even a speculative list, but I've seen a lot of BU games...

Re: Boston Universtiy 2011-2012 Part IV: Dont stop fighting til the fight is done!

I think a more reasoned conclusion on Noonan is, aside from having the largest cult following in Hockey East, he very well could turn out to be the top offensive Dman in the league by his senior year.

Ah, sorry but you're forgetting about Mr. Malcolm Lyles.

EDIT: scratch that, thought he only played one year at BC

And Noonanfest still hasn't happened...

Some stats to back up my claim:
When Clendening does not score a point/does not play, our record is 5-7
When Clendening scores at least one point, our record is 13-4-1
When Clendening scores more than one point, our record is 4-0

Post Coyle/Trivino leaving:
No points, record is 1-4
At least 1 point, record is 7-2
2+ points, record is 2-0

When Clendening scores a point on the PP, our record is 9-3, post Trivino/Coyle, it's 4-2
When Clendening does not score a point on the PP, record is 8-9-1, post Trivino/Coyle, it's 4-4-1

The numbers speak for themselves.

Re: Boston Universtiy 2011-2012 Part IV: Dont stop fighting til the fight is done!

The thing I have the biggest problem with you is:

Noonan has evolved as the premiere defenseman not just on the team, but also in the league.

http://dailyfreepress.com/2012/02/14/heartbroken-hero-noonan-nets-two-in-ot-loss/

That's criminal

This.

I will 100% take responsibility for this issue. Is Noonan the best defensemen in Hockey East? No. Did I write it in a way that made it look like he is. Yes. That's my bad. I screwed up and should have written that better. I do agree that Dumoulin is the best defenseman in Hockey East. I meant to say that Noonan is the best defenseman on his team stats-wise, and one of the best defensemen in Hockey East. I'd put him in my top 5. Some of you wouldn't. That's fine and I'd be glad to debate about that.

What I object to people bringing up when talking about me is the idea that I'm a worthless reporter because I flirt with the players. That is 100% not true, not even close to it, and that is a personal and unnecessary attack on my character. If you want to criticize my reporting or disagree with something I write, that's fine. I open myself up to that by becoming a reporter and it comes with the job.

I do not deserve to be accused of or criticized for flirting with players simply because I am a reporter. Flirting with players is not something I do or ever have done. That is not something I automatically open myself up to by becoming a reporter. It's out of line and unnecessary.

Re: Boston Universtiy 2011-2012 Part IV: Dont stop fighting til the fight is done!

Hi!

Not a BU or BC fan. I like the school across the river, as one might guess from the user name. I came on here to see what was going on about the Nicastro matter. I am interested to see a number of posts seeming to blame this situation on Coach Parker. I would tend to think it is more the responsibility of the player rather than Parker unless it can be shown that Parker has actually done anything to actually cover up past problems with the player in question or shielded him in some way.

I will say this. I have followed college hockey in Boston for many years and have had season tickets to Bright Arena for 37 years. Parker would often turn up at Bright to watch games if BU was not playing and I have met him and chatted with him more times than I can count. He always seemed a really fine gentleman to me, a man with a great love for ice hockey and a very decent person. It does seem a bit harsh to blame him with no affirmative showing of any wrongful acts on his part.

I have no animus towards BU. My late mother was BU '32. I hope a just decision is reached in the courts on this matter and that BU can come out of this mess undamaged. Good luck gentlemen.

This post is far too rational, logical, and well thought out for this thread.

So Paul Kariya Leaving Maine in the middle of the season was wrong?

So Paul Kariya Leaving Maine in the middle of the season was wrong?

Not exactly the best comparison. Kariya went to the NHL. Coyle went to the Q.
