Boston University vs Northeastern 3/4 and 5

Re: Boston University vs Northeastern 3/4 and 5

I had this same exact problem earlier this season. Rink personnel and detail officer pretty much acted like I was nuts for not knowing about it, but I hadn't been to a game at Matthews in years.

The real crack down with this started this year. Don't know why, but that's how it is. I hate it but I don't have to deal with it ever. So yeah, just like in the blog post, get a really big purse for the game, then you can bring in what you want. :D

Re: Boston University vs Northeastern 3/4 and 5

the two teams bu needs to pass (#13 rpi and #14 cc), bu is already winning the rpi point but losing all the other comparisons. the next two teams (t11 uhn & umd) are playing highly ranked teams this weekend (h/a with bc, h/h with uno) which will help their rpi, making it tougher to catch them.

Correct, RPI is not the problem. BU is sitting at #13 in RPI and by the way there is a sizable gap to move to #12 so unless BU almost runs the table I wouldn't expect a small rise in RPI helping BU.

The COp & TUC is dragging down and killing BU. Dartmouth's TUC is slightly better than BU, hopefully they can lose to a TUC in the ECAC tourney and flip that to BU (assuming BU takes a TUC win of their own of course). Looking at the individual pairs, there doesn't seem to be much opportunity for BU to advance unless a couple of teams collaspe.

By advance, do you mean move up the ladder to #12, or advance into the NCAA's? {opens window, steps onto ledge}:D

A reminder to everyone that we'll be live blogging both games this weekend. For the first time in two years, I will not be there tonight, but three of my colleagues will.

Yep it's definitely a different tone this year. Ushers even check tickets to make sure you're sitting in the right place now. All this orderliness is cramping our style. I much prefer the lawless days at Matthews, where the entrance policies were vague and the seating arrangements even more vague.

Though the mental image of a bunch of dudes in hockey sweaters lined up outside Matthews with purses slung over their shoulders is priceless.

Re: Boston University vs Northeastern 3/4 and 5

Close, hard fought gm.. i thought both goalies played quite well.

Too bad some poor officiating disrupted what was a pretty good hockey gm (some really suspect calls.. (both ways), but i thought NU got the short end of least one of those.

Nailbiter at the end... lots of missed chances for the Huskies throughout.. but it is what it is. The BU shorty was a beauty.

Hoping for another good one tomorrow.. i think NU can bounce back if we play with discipline. Something we'll need.. regardless of who we face in the playoffs.

Re: Boston University vs Northeastern 3/4 and 5

I have never seen anything like Guziors 5 minute A&B in a college hockey game. He had to have leapt over 12 inches in the air before coming down and bringing 7 down to the ground in a headlock. It was ummm interesting.

Whenever someone complains about the NU fans at a BU game, I have to remind them that we are by far their biggest rival, and a lot of idiot BU fans show up for just the BC games as well. But this is the second straight win at NU that I have seen garbage thrown at the BU players after the game. I'm fairly confident none of the posters here do it, but seriously find a way to stop it.

Great game, if we have 4 more of these in the next 8 days it'll be crazy, and I'm certainly not pulling for that. I fear the advancing team wouldn't have 18 skaters healthy for the Semis.

Re: Boston University vs Northeastern 3/4 and 5

This is why we don't suit you up Guzior, you're a moron. Senior Night is over, back to the bench for you. Dongara will be back in the lineup tomorrow thank God. As for the fans, every fanbase has idiots. The people over there were tools and I'm pretty sure it was one bottle before any BU players were leaving. I saw the kid, it was some stupid tool and we called him out for being a joke.

Did you call out the stupid tools who were doing the boxing knockout chant when Millan was down injured? Probably not, because that would require you to call out everyone. That was about as classless and despicable as I've seen in a while. Even UMass fans stay respectfully quiet when a player is down and injured. Talked to my friend that works for the NU athletic department after the game, said he'd never seen it and thought it was pretty awful as well.

Not sure where some of you are getting this basis for complaining about officiating. One correctly noted it was poor both ways, but it was swayed to no one. You got an early 3rd period PP gift when Coyle was called for elbowing while he was stick handling with both hands on the stick. Correctly called major penalties in the third offset so neither had much effect, and for the final five minutes of the game, you were on the PP for three of them, and gave up the game winner shorthanded in that time. The officials were not a factor in determining the outcome of the game tonight.

Re: Boston University vs Northeastern 3/4 and 5

I thought it was tasteless. Very surprised since the "leaders" of the Dog House don't even like our fans yelling "**** BU" and will yell at people to stop it when they do that as do the rest of us who aren't childish. But Millan at no point looked like he was going to need a stretcher. If someone had been boarded and was lying motionless on the ice, don't think the fans would've done the same thing. We've had other players hurt at Matthews with dead silence and then clapping because everyone knew from the get go it was serious. Millan looked like he just got rattled. Doesn't excuse the TKO stuff which I didn't join in but let's not act like this was Philly at the old Vet.

LOL what about the Coyle penalty? So the NU player went crashing down in open ice on nothing? He clearly checked him...whether or not it was elbowing I don't know, that was questionable but what were you watching?

I actually for once was semi-pleased with the officiating. The game was lost by NU wasting easy goals and mentally checking out late.

Either you don't know the rules of hockey or we're talking about two different plays. Coyle stickhandled behind the net, the NU guy skated behind him, caught up as Coyle was turning with the puck, and ran into his elbow. There was no check. The guy skated in, bumped into Coyle, fell down, Coyle gets called for elbowing while both hands are on his stick while handling the puck. This all occurred about 50 feet away from my seat, so I wasn't seeing things funny.

Bernie and Tom were equally perplexed about that call.

Re: Boston University vs Northeastern 3/4 and 5

I know much has been said about Matthews Arena and what an awesome place it is to watch a game, but I got there last night and realized there was free wireless and it totally vaulted it into the pantheon of sports arenas everywhere! :)

Glad to have gotten out of there with two points. Gill has been playing really well of late - good to see. That was a fun goal.

Speaking of things being thrown on the ice, at the beginning of the third as Rawlings was getting into the net (before the puck dropped) I saw a quarter being tossed on the ice. It rolled right into the crease. Thankfully Rawlings saw it. It was weird. Looked like it came from the balcony but I'm not sure. Who throws coins? That was weird.

I got a kick out of the NU announcer. Very minor league-like. Ah, the days when you used have Joel Perlmutter. Seriously, the over-the-top subdued (if that makes sense) announcing of the visiting team was hysterical.

This was the only place I've ever seen a glass bottle thrown on the ice and at a player... nothing surprises me there!

That must be one of his 'things' as he did the same when BC played there a couple weeks ago. I thought it was very minor-league as well since it was so over-done subdued. (I know exactly what you mean.)

Yeah, it is pretty lame. I also like how he gets all excited about "another Huskies powerplay," like it is a good thing for this team.....they went 0-8 and gave up the GW SH goal. :(

Yeah, I remember that as well. If memory serves me right, the idiot threw it at Ty Conklin. The fan was subsequently ripped apart by those sitting next to him and escorted out of the building, forever.
