Boston University season thread - strike 3! last man there turn out the lights.

The reason I asked is that Gill was benched for the last shift in the 2nd period. As the team filed into the locker room at the conclusion of the period, Gill was the last player down the tunnel. Parker stopped him, and they had a one-sided chat.

Gill is always one of the last, if not the last, to go down the tunnel during intermissions. Can't read anything into that.

I knew Lowell had started out slowly and was curious to see what kind of streak they were on overcome that. Lowell is 17-2-1 in their last 20 games. Incredible. No doubt right now that they are the strongest team in HEA headed towards the NCAAs. They are a team that I could look forward to rooting for in Pittsburgh. Hockey East really could use another team than BC-BU-Maine to win a national title.

I hate their style of play. But yes, in the end, I will be rooting for them to make their first FF.

I wouldn't bet against them against anyone else right now, especially teams that have not seen their mind numbing style of play. If it's as headache-inducing for us in the stands, imagine what it's like on the ice. Plus they don't make any mistakes, that's how you have to beat teams like that, wait for a mistake then capitalize. With Lowell, those mistakes don't seem to ever happen.

for their sake, may the law of averages hold off for another few weeks...few teams have been able to put together a streak that would put them at 27-2-1 to run the table. Granted, they could withstand a loss in HE RS or tourney play...that also would impact their seeding etc. which would make the path to the NC a little bit harder.

why are we signing a new goalie?- must be coming in next two years
Not that Vermont, Providence and Lowell may have better freshmen goaltenders that BU

I had to shut the game off yesterday . When it got to 2-0 you knew it was over but they are an excellent team with no weaknesses. UNH a step behind them i think. I'd only bet on Minnesota against them at this point

BREAKING: Matt O'Connor is out indefinitely with spontaneous pneumothorax - a collapsed lung. Full recovery is expected, per a team source.

Others on the internet are saying they've heard he's currently in the hospital.

Also, apparently Friday's game is on CBS Sports Network? Who made that decision?

We typically carry 3 goalies and Moccia is a senior next (???) year.

How highly recruited was Starrett? Is he expected to be he 3rd goalie or legitimately compete for a starting spot? (Obviously anything can happen once he is here.)

Starrett was #35 among N.American goalies in Central Scouting's midterms, one of just a few non-Major Junior goalies ranked. East Coach Militia says he's a 2013 recruit, but I'd be surprised if he doesn't play a year of junior. OverTheBoards.net reports that Starrett has posted a 24-12-4 record in 2047 minutes played, a 1.90 GAA and a .915 save percentage for the Select Hockey Academy U18s.

brassbonanza: BU-NU has been on the CBSSN schedule since October.

We have never purposely had 3 scholarship goalies at once (Curry's senior year BU gave him one in addition to keeping the 2 recruited G's on schollie) so I think that may answer your question, if indeed he is coming next year. That said he appears to worlds ahead of Kraus and Moccia so I'd expect he'd get a spot start or two at minimum.

Double posting but now my theory is he comes for 2014-15 and is a 2+2 guy who will get BU off the 2 frosh goalies at a time cycle they are currently on.

East Coast Militia's Facebook page now says 2014-2015.

This makes sense.

Is this ranking "per age year" or "overall"?

If they are "per year" then 35th does not sound as exciting.

they only rank for draft year this year.

On the goalie talk - there are several very good freshmen goaltenders in Hockey East, and BU has two of them.
O'Connor got off to a great start, and tailed off. He leaves too many rebounds, but overall he has had a solid freshman year. Maguire got off to a slow start, but he is a very good goalie, too.
Goal is not a problem at BU.

As for the Lowell talk - they are a solid, efficient team. But they are also incredibly boring to watch. Boring with a Capital 'B'. But their fans are leaving games happy because they leaving with 'W's', even if they put their fans, and opposition, to sleep over 60 minutes.

They seem to just rank the Top 35 Goalies, and what we are looking at right now is the midseason rankings. Maguire was 28th on the 2012 final rankings after being left off the midseason ones, and in 2011 O'Connor finished 25th after a midseason 24th. Despite that Maguire was drafted and O'Connor was not.

Based on just that and no inside information whatsoever if this kid is actually a 2+2 that is a huge get, if we are instead going to be giving 3 of our 18 scholarships to goalies in 14/15 and 15/16 I will be less thrilled.
